View Full Version : Wings playoff tix - not selling

Gecko

The Wings have a surplus of playoff tix especially for suite's that are not selling. Unheard of in the past decade around here.

Let me just say that I "used" to be a huge hockey fan. They lost me after the strike and now could care less and looks like they lost others as well.

Maybe a part of it is because I am a Pistons and Lions season tix holder and they have my interest. More likely is hockey is just a fringe sport and any part time fan they reeled in the past 5 years they lost. Really, though I don' care about the hockey playoffs coming up and I know plenty of others feel the same way.

Based on the Michigan Economy, I think it is an economic isue rather than a matter of lack of fanbase. It's hard to justify a suite if your an employer laying people off, and it's tough buying needless things if your job is hanging in the balance.

DENIED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First of all, I purchased playoff hockey tickets for round 2 yesterday and there wasn't very much to pick from. By the time they drop the puck this weekend, you can bet that The Joe will be filled to the rafters.

Secondly, if you're really were a "huge hockey fan" then you certainly would realize that the sport was made much more fan friendly and way more competitive as a result of the strike. You also wouldn't turn your back on what is possibly Stevie Y's last season wearing the winged wheel. There isn't a better competitor or a classier guy in ANY sport and this may be the last time you see him play his guts out for this town.

Thirdly, I can see The Pistons interfering with hockey. They run both post-seasons at the same time and The Pistons are definitely on a roll...but The Lions? Give me a break. They have done precisely jack shit since they introduced The Superbowl. Don't tell me....let me guess....this is their year, right?

Thanks for stopping by.

this is gecko's first ever swatted thread?

Outside of the fact there is no offical link and Gecko added his hockey as "fringe" sport , not sure why this is a swat.

I think it's a legit hockey topic however. Considering the traffic in that forum, I would keep anything people want to talk about. However it isn't my forum to mod, so I respect whatever way they want to manage it.

I thought it was a good swat. He backed it up with his comments.

I like everyone here. Gecko's a good dude. Sometimes people get swatted.

No big deal.

Sometimes people get swatted.

That would have been a good tagline entry.

I agree, don't get me wrong. I am just surprised, they had a topic about Lidstrom being under-rated on April 5th it still doesn't have a response. Just so I am not sounding like a hypocrite, I thought that was an awesome topic on #5, I had a lengthy response ready to post when my browser crashed,so I lost my spirit on the topic. So for a topic to have 3 responses in a matter of minutes was hot for the forum, , with that said it doesn't make it a good topic because it garnered responses.

Cats were busy. I hear you JS...we had a severe dryspell
in the NHL forum. I think it'll get a little bit more heated come
playoff time and I'm sure we'll get some new blood as well.

LOL.. I never got swatted before, not even sure what swatted means....

Anyways, Rob Parkers column back a few days ago touched upon the lack of interest around the Wings and he also noted the on many occasions there were empty seats this year. It's been said that gate receipts were down 10% at the Joe this year.

hockey is a regional sport that is continuing to die across of the country. Seriously, if they can't outdraw fricking poker how are they gonna survive?

Maybe I got swatted cause the truth hurts...

Mgmt: Now unswat this bitch and put it back in the hockey forum so we can discuss this further.

I've only been to about 5 Wings games, and there were always empty seats, mostly in the lower bowl.

I've heard from friends and co-workers that most times those empties are corporate-owned, or at least that is the theory.

Yes I think that is true. The suite's, like JS said are corporations not ponying up for them this time around.

The fact that the tickets arent selling could also be attributed to the fact that the games arent scheduled yet. If you dont know when the games are you likely dont know if you can make it to the game and subsequently if you dont know if you can go then you can hardly justify layin down the coin to reserve suite tickets or any ticket for that matter.

once the final schedule comes out the last few tickets left will be snapped up. There is nothing to worry about in hockeytown. Go back to your regularly scheduled Pistons Programming..... [smilie=arnold.gif]

Of course you are always welcome in the NHL FORUM...even if your shit gets swatted now and then

What's with the tude? Ok, I play along and pretend that all is right in hockey land and pretend they don't have any issues growing a fan base and negotiating a tv contract.

P.S. And thanks for the invite to your hockey forum. I'll be sure to check in with you the next time.

Well I went on line to get playoff tickets yesterday....for round 2 (crossing fingers) and there wasn't much available.

I'm certain that The Joe will be packed to the rafters by the time the puck drops this weekend.

Yeah, I guess you did. Whoops.

Listen, Gecko...don't be sad about the swatting. I just felt that all of the cracking on hockey belongs somewhere else. If you were a "huge" hockey fan like you claimed, then it would not be "in character" to be taking shots at hockey...especially in this city. Especially when they have given the Detroit so much to cheer about over the years.

If all of the excitement that The Lions are providing you is overriding your enjoyment of watching Stevie Y lite it up one last time...then there is really no way I can change your mind. However, the notion that there is a "surplus" of playoff tickets available is simply not true.

I don't care about being swatted, it's a little petty to worry about something so dumb but it does appear that a little suppressing of any negative thought on hockey is happening. I am surprised at how touchy you hockey mods are.
