View Full Version : lakers to the finals?
b-diddy 04-14-2006, 12:21 AM ok, im not predicting they'll make it. but they could. i realize being a kobe supporter puts me in the minority, but here we go.
lakers vs suns.
suns will be favored, lakers should be. suns are 3-0 vs. lakers this year, but lakers played all three games at the end of back-to-backs, while the suns have always had the day before off. i will have rooting interest in the series because i cant stand that nash gets mvp consideration, and fully expect this one series to end that.
lakers vs winner of nuggets/clippers
lakers probably would be the favorite, reguardless of who...
lakers vs mavs/spurs
kobe wouldnt stand a chance against the spurs. but theres a great chance the spurs dont get past the mavs, and kobe might score 400 points in a series against the mavs (seriously). if kobe gets this series, all bets are off.
is it going to happen? probably not. kobe would have to play his absolute best for ~6 weeks, which is probably too much to ask of one player. im sure some people will say im a complete moron/kobe slappy for this, but there it is.
if i can find a booky/website that lets you bet on teams getting to the finals, i'll throw 20 on the lakers, no question.
Kstat 04-14-2006, 12:23 AM Kobe could average 60ppg vs Phoenix. Seriously, he could.
Against a team that would average 115-120 ppg vs the Lakers, one guy scoring 60 doesn't mean much... So Kobe scores half of Phoenix's output, big deal. Who scores the other 60?
Phoenix would still beat LA in four games. 5 tops.
Not even going to bother breaking down LA vs Denver or SA/Dallas, because they have almost no chance of making it that far.
The worst possible matchup for LA outside of SA was Phoenix.
Every other team I'd give LA a puncher's chance of beating. Just not SA or Phoenix.

Even if the Lakers somehow manage to get past the Suns , they won't get past the Clippers or the Nuggets.
b-diddy 04-14-2006, 12:32 AM lakers are
2-1 vs. nugs
2-2 vs clips
2-1 vs mavs.
Kstat 04-14-2006, 12:33 AM All teams they could beat.
However, they wont beat either SA or Phoenix so why are we even discussing those matchups?
Here's how the 3 games have gone for Phoenix and LA this year:
game 1: Kobe scores 39. Lakers lose 122-112
game 2: Kobe scores 37, Lakers lose 105-96
game 3: Kobe scores 51, Lakers lose 107-96
Those numbers pretty much sum up that matchup in a nutshell. The Suns can out-gun Kobe any day of the week.
b-diddy 04-14-2006, 12:36 AM they wouldnt beat san antonio, but i'll be putting some money on them beating the suns.
hell, i expect smush parker to give the "mvp" nightmares.

Wow.
Ok, even I'll admit Nash is a bit overrated.
The fact remains if you think Smush would be any problem for Nash at all, you're hatred of him is clouding your better judgement.
I almost think they'd have a better shot of beating the Spurs than phoenix. Phoenix just matches up horribly with them. They score way too much for any NBA team to beat them with just one or two guys putting the ball in the basket.
b-diddy 04-14-2006, 01:57 AM like i said, every game so far, lakers have played the night before, and phoenix has had the night off.
and yes, i do expect smush to give nash trouble.

Something you've been guilty of yourself. but its true. the idea that nash is overmatched dealing with smush is a complete joke. Smush isnt involved enough to give anyone trouble.
the wrath of diddy 04-14-2006, 11:43 AM If the Lakers somehow made it to the WCF and the Heat made it to the ECF we'd be totally fucked. Stern would do anything and everything to get a Snaq v. Cryant Finals.
