View Full Version : NCAA Football 07
Moodini31 04-13-2006, 10:23 PM I know.....I know.....this should be in "The New and Upcoming Games Thread", but this is a sports site, and sports games don't get any bigger than NCAA Football.
Here is the first tidbit of info that has been released on the game to this point from Gamespot.com
In what has to be one of the least surprising moves in gaming history, Electronic Arts is apparently rolling out another edition of NCAA Football. Months ago, online retailers began posting product pages for NCAA Football 07, the sequel to the very successful NCAA Football 06. While fans of undergrad football bet their tuition on a new edition, they didn't really have an idea of what would be in it--until recently.
A game description has been posted on GameStop.com for the PlayStation 2 edition (EBGames.com has listings for Xbox 360 and Xbox versions), throwing out some tidbits of info on new features. If the product page is to be believed, 07 will have an emphasis on making big plays that will be able to "turn the tide," courtesy of the new momentum system.
Preseason will have the spring game, which helps evaluate incoming freshmen, and spring drills, a set of stat-boosting minigames akin to Madden NFL's minicamp mode. EA's deal with sports network ESPN will also make its debut in the series, with "real-time updates from ESPN Radio," as well as dynasty mode info through ESPN.com.
Good news for NCAA Football fans who always wondered how their players were doing on their Communications midterm. NCAA Football 07 will also have a back-to-school mode, where characters live the life of a student athlete by studying, playing some pigskin, and attending social events--unlike some real-life college programs. Manage the character's time right, and he'll excel on the field as well as in the classroom.
I can't freaking wait for this. Ever since '97, after this game comes out, nothing goes in my system for about 5 months. And this year, it's next-gen on the 360! [smilie=horns.gif]
WTFchris 04-13-2006, 11:25 PM i have 06 and love it. I only have one complaint though, and it's that you get screwed on the Heisman race. I had 60+ TD's and got beat my Mike Hart, who had 22 TD's. I set every record imaginable and yet only won the Heisman one out of 3 years. Other than that, the game is amazing.

Dang, man. I think it's about time to bump up the difficulty a bit.

Yeah, time to get off Junior Varsity, or at least move the sliders around a little bit.
Moodini31 04-15-2006, 11:42 AM I hope I can adjust to the new controller. I've been playing College Football with a PlayStation controller since '97. I played one game on the Xbox a few years back, and it wasn't pretty. [smilie=arrgh.jpg]

Actually, you shouldn't have a problem with it. It has the 4 shoulder buttons now and you don't have to go out of your way to hit the black and clear buttons now.
I mean, did you have any problems adjusting with NBA 2K6?

Nope, not at all.
I think you're right, I remember dropping back to pass and trying to throw to a receiver that was assigned to the "black" button! [smilie=banghead.gi: Ugh! That was terrible. The black and white buttons could go in "The worst decisions in video game history thread". I'm so glad Microsoft tweaked the controller for the 360. It's perfect.
Moodini31 04-18-2006, 06:21 PM Does anyone know what happened with rivals.com and EA? I remember reading a preview for 06 and rivals had signed on with EA and would have the rivals 100 and many different rivals menus as you recruit. When I popped in the game (and played for 5 months) I didn't see one mention of rivals anywhere. Wha happened? Hopefully it's in the 07 version.

Moodini31 04-19-2006, 10:46 PM How many people here and planning on getting this game for the 360? I was thinking we could get a league going. I think at least 10 teams would be cool. We'd have a regular season, keep stats as best we could, vote on the Heisman, and end the season with bowls like real college football or do it right and have a playoff. What do you guys think?

Dude, they are in a horrible spot on the controller. Every time you need to use one of them, you need to pick up your thumb from the other buttons and move it down. They're also in an awkward spot and not easy to use. It sounds ticky-tacky, but it does take away from the gameplay a bit.
Artis Gilmore 04-20-2006, 03:00 PM It's not like any of their games require you to hit Y+White or something and stretch your thumb. Either your thumbs are small or mine a re big, because I have no problrm hitting A and White at the same time.

Maybe I was STRUG-A-LING so much because I think I know the PS2 controller better than the back of my hand. I should be straight on the 360 though. I wonder how the 360 game will compare to the PS2 and Xbox versions. I'm thinking there won't be much of a difference, except in the graphics department, because it's only year 1 on the 360.
Steve do you have a 360? What system are you planning on playing this on?
Artis Gilmore 04-22-2006, 11:59 AM No 360 for me. I have just an xbox. And my sister has a Gamecube.
If I get a job soon, I might save up my money and get a 360, but for now an xbox.

Yeah, which means there's absotutely no hope for the 360 version to get any kinds of upgrades since the announcement of the features we won't be getting in the game.
Hell, it would be great if EA could implement some things that have been in games since about 2003/2004, like online leagues or something.

Moodini31 04-28-2006, 06:04 PM Last week, Electronic Arts announced it was going with Seattle Seahawks running back and Super Bowl runner-up Shaun Alexander for the cover of its upcoming Madden NFL 07. EA is going with another second-place running back for its amateur football game, as the publisher today announced that USC Trojan and Rose Bowl runner-up Reggie Bush would grace the cover of NCAA Football 07.
Bush made a career out of game-changing plays during his career at USC. In three years with the Trojans, Bush led the team (with fellow Heisman-winner quarterback Matt Leinert) to a 37-2 record and back-to-back national championships.
In accordance with the big-time impact Bush had on the games he played, EA is putting the gameplay focus for NCAA 07 on in-game momentum. When the defense comes up with a key stop or the offense makes a big play, the momentum shifts and impacts the rest of the game. The developers are also trying to replicate the collegiate atmosphere of the games with authentic stadiums, mascots, and marching bands.
EA isn't the only organization high on Bush right now. The former Trojan and Heisman Trophy winner is projected by many to be picked first in this weekend's NFL Draft by the Houston Texans. NCAA Football 07 is being developed by Orlando, Florida-based EA Tiburon, and is set for a July release on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. Versions for the Xbox 360 and PSP are also in the works.
In the works? WTF does that mean? They better not release the game in the fall for the 360 or I'll be pissed. I don't want to have to wait until school starts back up to play college football on my 360.
Artis Gilmore 04-28-2006, 07:17 PM EA always picks players on teams who made the finals but lost. Like Kidd for live in 03, same with Faulk in Madden 03. and MVP baseball 2004 with Albert Pujols. And Madden 06 with Mcnabb.

Artis Gilmore 04-30-2006, 09:35 AM Harrington neve made it to the NC game in college.I know he didn't. I'm saying most of the time with other sport games they put a player on the runner up team.

Moodini31 05-09-2006, 11:05 PM OK, I just downloaded the NCAA 07 trailer for the 360 from Xbox Live and I drooled all over my couch!
It begins with the sound of a drum in the background. Then you are in a first person view entering "The Swamp", the stadium is packed and the ball is being kicked off.........fade to black.....fade into another first persion view as you walk down a second level tunnel at Notre Dame Stadium and you're looking directly at Touchdown Jesus (drum is still drumming)......fade to black.....fade into another first person view as you see a big rock inside "Death Valley" at Clemson. Then the gameplay footage begins and the entire band can be heard, the Florida-FSU rivalry is shown, Mike Hart jukes an Ohio State DB along with many other clips, all in HD! The trailer ends with Sparty celebrating. WOW boys and girls, WOW!

Baker 05-10-2006, 03:36 PM I have a huge freaking boner right now. I'm serious. I can't freaking wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Moodini31 05-13-2006, 12:31 AM LOS ANGELES--The Xbox 360 version of NCAA Football 07 was available to play on the E3 show floor, so we took the opportunity to get hands-on with the franchise's first appearance on the Xbox 360. Graphically, the game looks spectacular, getting a Madden-esque treatment as far as the level of detail put into stadiums and in the character models. You'll see meticulously crafted stands and 3D crowds surrounding manicured grass fields, with shadows cast by light fixtures and press boxes shrouding portions of the crowd depending on the sun's position in the sky. Player models also look much more detailed, with visible musculature on arms and calves, and helmets that glint in the light with their glossy surface. Not all college stadiums will be included in the game, but the development team is putting focus this year on getting the high-profile home fields in the game. We noticed, for example, that the Rose Bowl looked pretty accurate, with the press box at the top and the backdrop of the San Gabriel mountain range to the north.
The play-calling interface has also taken a cue from Madden for the Xbox 360. You can pick plays based on formation, play type, key players, or by asking Lee Corso for his recommendation. On the field, we immediately noticed a new kicking system for the game, which requires you to pull back on the right analog stick and then push forward in time with a meter to measure out your power. Your steadiness with the push forward affects the direction of the kick and, presumably, how much you hook or shank the ball. What's interesting is that on punts, you don't just snap the ball with the A button as normal and then kick. Pulling back on the analog stick initiates the snap on punts, and then you push forward to step up and get the ball away. If you wait too long for the power meter to rise, you run a higher risk of getting the kick blocked.
The development team has given you some new tricks on defense, such as a noticeably larger playbook. It feels like there are almost twice as many different plays to choose from. Maybe that has something to do with the fact that you're more easily able to browse through different packages of the same base formation with the play-calling interface than in past versions of NCAA Football. On the field, you can tap the Y button off the line to try to get a jump on the snap. Obviously pressing this button before the snap will result in an encroachment penalty, but if you can time the snap just right, the defensive lineman will knife right into the backfield to blow up the play right from the get-go.
The main thing we noticed about the feel of the game is the wealth of new in-game animations. Finally, NCAA Football feels like it's getting a premium graphics treatment--you'll see decleating tackles, where the defender knocks the ball carrier right off his feet. One time, while we were running a delayed blitz with a linebacker, the computer-controlled fullback stepped up and chipped the blitzing LB right in the side, knocking him over sideways to buy more time for the quarterback. Horse-collar-style tackles (despite being illegal in the NFL) are available in the game when you run down ball carriers from behind, and on most basic head-on collisions, you'll see player models do a better job of wrapping up the man that they're tackling. Running backs can drag one or more defenders for extra yards and roll back over the top of players on the ground as they're taken down. A defensive lineman who gets a free shot at the quarterback can truck the passer mercilessly, knocking him flat on his back and then crawling over top of the prostrate QB on all fours. We also noticed a new throwing animation for QBs who throw short patterns with touch. We could go on for pages about how the game looks in motion, but suffice it to say, NCAA Football 07 will be college football as you've never seen it before, if our brief play test was any indication.
Unfortunately we didn't have an opportunity to check out dynasty mode or any other play modes, but we were more than satisfied by what we saw with the basic gameplay. Stay tuned to GameSpot for more details on NCAA Football 07 as they become available.

bangpow 06-09-2006, 02:08 PM FYI, the 360 version is now going to have the same playbooks as the current gen version.
check this out from IGN....
NCAA Playbooks
In your preview for NCAA Football 07, you said how the playbooks in the 360 version aren't as good as the ones in current gen, but then I read on a message board that you were wrong. Stop giving us wrong information.-John
UPDATE
What can I say, believe everything you read on message boards. EA was in our office last week and during the demo, they specifically said that the Puntrooskie and formations like the Pistol did not make the 360 version. This is exactly what they told me when I went to Tiburon and saw the game. We bitched and bitched about how stupid this was, and now it looks like someone is listening. According to Jeff Luhr, the game's producer, they are now adding these plays and formations in the next-gen version (even though they still weren't in the version we saw last week, and when asked, we were told they were not going to be in the game. Confused? So are we). Looks like all of the complaints finally paid off as it forced EA to upgrade the game and add these formations and more in next-gen (as it should). Anything else you want to see in the game? Looks like EA is paying attention to this column and your complaints.
Sorry for the bad info (and the original smart ass response), but the team at EA told us the wrong thing, more than once, and only now is adding these plays into the game. Hope this helps clear things up.
Moodini31 06-14-2006, 11:11 AM I hope the playcalling isn't like Madden's was on the 360. I didn't like how your selecting box only went over one play. If you're playing with a buddy they could look at the screen and see exactly what play you're picking. (Which is absolute cheese by the way) Fix it EA!

I never know when it's coming, but every summer it hits me. I get hit with unbelievable I'm ready for NCAA excitement. It comes at different times each year. Moodini brought up NCAA a week ago and I wasn't feelin it all. I wasn't ready for it. But, it hit me today. I don't even know why, but the excitement of NCAA 07 hit me like a ton of bricks. This year the wait won't bug me so much because I don't have enough time for Hitman and Recon right now. But, when it comes, my life changes.
NCAA dominates my world and I am officially excited. I caught the bug! Even better, I'll be playin' it on the 360 this year! YO!
Moodini31 06-25-2006, 05:24 PM OK, I'm thinking about this game year round, but I'm officially super jacked up for this game now. It's about 3 weeks away and there are some new videos on IGN that I just watched. OH baby boy! I have too many games to play already and this game is going to take over my life. When this comes out, my ass is not leaving the couch and my eyes will only leave the screen to sleep (rarely).
Check these joints out.

bangpow 07-06-2006, 12:28 PM It's funny that you guys mentioned Michigan and the 360 version.
There are people actually bitching up a storm about how the helmets aren't 100% accurate. Like, the stripes are too far apart or something. There are people actually saying that they won't use them because of that "issue". Personally, I think the helmets look fine, but I'm not a michigan fan. However, I still think it's totally ghey that people wouldn't use them because they don't think the helmets look right.
On a side note, the game is not set to be released until the 18th. I know there's all kinds of rumours swirling about an early release day, but as I've been told by my EA contact, the game will be released on the 18th and not earlier. What they are doing, however, is sending copies of the games out to the retailers early to see if they break the street date. If a bunch do, they won't be sending Madden out to the retailers early due to the people that break the NCAA street date.
bangpow 07-06-2006, 12:30 PM Also, I am waiting on confirmation about the playbooks on the 360 and if they are the same as the current gen minus the trick plays. I am also waiting on confirmation of the stadiums. From what I was told last night, all the stadiums are in the 360 version, but only 70 of them got the "platinum" treatment with all the minute details and what not.

I'm tired of the first versions of sports games on next gen consoles being "stripped down". I mean I'm sure EA knew about 2 years ago that the 360 was coming out, and it's been out for close to a year now. Stop making stupid games like Rugby and Arena football, and make NCAA Football and Madden unbelievable on the 360.
Artis Gilmore 07-19-2006, 12:01 PM So uh.....any one play yet?

bangpow 07-19-2006, 06:29 PM Personally, I really like the 360 version. I bought both the 360 version and the XBOX version, but the XBOX version hasn't even been opened yet.

detroitsportscity 07-20-2006, 12:13 AM It is a very sweet game.
The player switch is 1 way, unless you hold it and use the directional pad, which is annoying after being used to the old system(i accidentally 'jump the snap' way too often).
There is a different kicking style, which more Tiger Woods like. It takes a little getting used to but isn't bad.
Jukes are more Madden like, and aren't the god mode move like in past generations.
bangpow 07-20-2006, 09:50 AM Just curious, bangpow, but why the fuck would you do that?
Well, you gotta remember I do run a video game website and I should probably have a grasp on both versions. ;)
But also, I bought both because I still wasn't sure about how good the 360 version was going to be and Circuit City had a deal on the XBOX version. You get the regular gen version (XBOX, PS2, PSP) and the Prima guide for $39.99. So, I picked up my pre-order and 360 version from EB, then I went to Circuit City for the other one.
And I can thank Visa for helping me acquire both games.
DrRay11 07-20-2006, 03:53 PM Ah, I see. Video game site makes perfect sense.
Jethro34 07-20-2006, 07:09 PM So uh.....any one play yet?
Is it any good?
*I probably won't get a response for a couple weeks because all the college football geeks(Jethro*COUGH* moodini*COUGH COUGH*) will be playing 2 weeks straight.
Actually I have no money right now due to the going back to college thing and the program I'm in for it, so I haven't played it yet. I have an X-Box, not a 360, and it's crapping out on me gradually. I've been too busy with homework and other crap to get over to Moodini or Tre's house and check it out. That all ends very soon, but for now I'm on the outside.
Artis Gilmore 07-20-2006, 07:48 PM Oh....
I was just talking any version, I don't have a 360 either, just an xbox. I need to go rent it after I make some money at our neighborhood garage sale.
Artis Gilmore 07-22-2006, 05:41 PM Well I rented it before the garage sale......
SWEET ASS GAME.
Artis Gilmore 07-22-2006, 07:00 PM nevermind,
