He was a laid back dude.

This sucks real bad man. I got a pic of him on my camera phone walking off-stage at the concert at Comerica last summer. I'm going to have to use that as my wallpaper in honor of Proof.
Proof was real tight. I'm a huge Em fan and a big D12 fan too. I always turned it up a bit when Proof's verse came on in each song. I wonder what D12 is going to do now?
Much love to Proof and his friends and family. God bless.

I happened to be listening to WJR this morning (I know, first mistake) and the host was all but dancing on dude's grave, expressing his outrage at how Proof was being "glorified" and going on to use his death to validate every stereotype about rap and hip hop you can imagine.
He only just stopped short of saying they're all murdering thugs who have it coming, then again I had to stop listening after a while so maybe he did go there, it was certainly the direction things were headed.
I won't even touch how the callers used it as a springboard. I half expected them to be cutting eye holes in their pillow cases as they spoke.

Man turns himself into police in shooting of rapper Proof
DETROIT A man turned himself in to police today for questioning in the shooting death of the rapper Proof.
A Detroit spokeswoman says the man surrendered shortly after 4:30 p-m.
Police say Proof fired the first bullet in a nightclub shootout that cost him his life.
Sergeant Omar Feliciano said Proof's shot hit 35-year-old Keith Bender in the head, critically wounding him.
The shootout occurred yesterday inside the C-C-C club, a bar in a strip of businesses along Eight Mile.
Proof, whose real name is Deshaun Holton, is one of Eminem's closest friends.
Detectives are still trying to figure out who shot Proof. He was dead on arrival at a nearby outpatient treatment center.
No arrests have been made.

Second Victim in Proof Shooting Identified
April 12, 2006
In the hours following the murder of D-12 rapper Proof, more details have emerged, including information about the identity of the second victim.
Initially, AllHipHop.com speculated that the second individual shot was fellow rapper Bizarre. According to MTV News, the Detroit Police Department have stated that the man who sustained a non-fatal gunshot to the head is actually 35-year-old Detroit resident, Keith Bender, Jr. Proof suffered the same injury but, as we reported yesterday, did not survive.
Angel Bender, Keith's sister-in-law, told The Detroit News her brother-in-law, a retired Army staff sergeant, was out at the CCC club with friends. He was celebrating news that he would no longer need a defibrillator for a heart condition when an altercation between his group and Proof's posse arose, which allegedly led to the shooting.
Some of Bender's relatives have claimed that Proof shot Bender and then was shot by someone else.
"Some words were exchanged. He was at the wrong place at the wrong time," Angel told the paper. "We're still putting the pieces together."
The dispute took place in the early hours of the morning on Tuesday (April 11). At around 5 A.M., police were sent to Detroit's CCC club, which was operating illegally after hours. By the time they arrived, the club was already empty, and while some witnesses have given information, police had no suspects as of Tuesday night.
Memorial service arrangements have not been announced yet, according to MTV News

The person wanted in the murder of Detroit rapper Proof turned himself in to police, Wednesday evening.
According to witnesses, it was Deshaun Holten, the rapper known as Proof, who fired the first shot.
Sources told Action News that the argument started over a pool game at the C.C.C. nightclub on 8 Mile.
Witnesses said Proof and 35-year-old Keith Bender began fighting and someone inside the club fired a shot at the ceiling. They said the room got quiet and then Proof allegedly hit Bender, an army veteran, with a gun. As others tried to break up the fight, Proof allegedly shot Bender in the head.
Bender’s cousin, who was a bouncer at the club, shot Proof at least twice, killing him.
Friends and family said they find it hard to believe that Proof could have shot anyone.
Bernard Walker recently produced a short film, featuring Proof, about innocent victims of crime. The film, called "Innocent Bystander," has yet to be released.
Keith Bender remains in the hospital in critical condition. Police are continuing to investigate the allegations that Proof shot him.
The bouncer, who allegedly shot Proof, could be charged as early as Thursday.
Police are still looking for witnesses. If you have any information call Detroit police.
A lawyer for the man turning himself in claims that the guy(who is a bouncer) shot proof in retaliation for him killing his cousin. Of course theres no real detail as to what happened between Proof and his cousin to cause that. If thats what happened that is.
I'm actually curious about the details though. Proof isnt gonna blast somebody if he didnt feel threatened. What happened to cause that? Anyways its too bad for both families and a serious mess.
