Has anyone read Game of Shadows yet? I want to check it out, but i'm not sure if its worth it. Seems interesting enough.
Anyone here read it yet, or hear anything about it?
I heard it is a good read. However it seems like a rush job. There are a lot of details that the two writers got from sources, however in some cases the details don't pan out, and must not have been researched. I have also heard that there is a lot of out of conxtext quotes. For example Skip Bayless wrote an article after speaking to Bobby Bonds, five years ago when Barry was chasing 73. In the article Bayless quoted Bobby Bonds after asking him a question on how Barry got into such good shape so late in life, Bobby said" He works out until he cries, he is that dedicated." However in Book of Shadows the authors attribute the quote to Bayless and say this is an example of how blind journalists were, when in fact Bayless was just telling people what Bonds said to him.
That may not seem like a big deal but taking stuff out of context to fit a theory is not journalism or fact finding.
I am not a fan of Bonds, and I don't feel sorry for him, however at the same time I am not going to believe Book of Shadows as the gospel or even as a majority factual.

I bought it the day it came out and i just got done reading it the other day. It is a great read. Yes, its mainly about Bonds but you get a lot of great stuff on Conte and many other athletes as well. Its very well done. I would tend to believe every word of what the book says. Its extremely well sourced.
