As some people know I have moved to El Paso. It is killing me to not be able to watch Detroit Sports, I have to hope for national games. Which is fine for the Pistons, and Wings since they have a national pressence more so the Pistons. However unless the Tigers get real hot and stay hot I doubt National TV will be a regular thing.

So with that said I am considering 3 options and I was hoping for feedback...

MLB Extra Innings- At home in Michigan I had that for free because of a glitch but to pay for it is 160 bucks

MLB TV Online- it is 79.99 for the year or 14.99 a month, I like this option because I can cancel it after July lol, plus with an S video cable my brothers tv becomes a big monitor.

MLB Gameday Audio 14.99 for the season, who doesn't love baseball on the radio?

Anyway I was hoping to get feedback in terms of what works the best, exp with any of them and why one is better than the other, Luckily the Tigers are playing the Rangers so I will get that series before I need to make up my mind..

Personally, I'd rule out the radio option right off and go for either the MLB.com video or the Xtra innings package. I know you probably have some trepidation over the extra innings package after they didn't even have game two, but it really does get MOST of the games. It's only when you get two moribund franchises like the Tigers and Royals usually that you miss many games.

How often are you going to be at home for the games?

If you are going to be at home for the games when you want to watch them for the most part, then Xtra innings is the way to go. I've had it the last 2 years, and it's just so easy to watch and switch through the games. I originally signed up for it two years ago just to watch the Tigers games, but I found myself more and more watching other random games. Vin Scully in LA is a joy to listen to.

If you're going to be at the office or at different places when you want to watch, I guess the MLB.com option's not bad. The video is pretty good but not great. It can be choppy at times, especially if you're on a computer with little ram. I was surprised by how good the video was, actually, it was way better than I thought, but it still wasn't near as good as the regular TV.

If money's not that huge of a factor, I'd go with the TV package.

Thanks Vinny if the Tigers keep playing like they are Extra Innings will be worth it. Plus as you said later in the year other games will be appealing. I am actually trying to find secondary teams to root for in all sports except basketball. Not that I want to betray my roots but I want to take up interest in teams closer to El Paso, which is hard since most places are 9 hours away.

I didn't know where else to post this, so I am posting it here.

Tigers, TV20 reach broadcast pact
Team, station agree on over-the-air deal for 16 games

The Tigers will have over-the-air broadcasts this season after all. The team announced a deal with WDWB-TV 20 that includes the simulcast of Monday afternoon's home opener against the White Sox, also slated to be broadcast on FSN Detroit.

Fifteen other games, starting in June, will be broadcast on Channel 20 and a statewide network of over-the-air stations. The additional games, which are yet to be determined, bring the local broadcast total to 127 of the Tigers' 162 games between FSN Detroit and the over-the-air network.

"We worked diligently for several months to reach an agreement that is good for our fans, good for our broadcast partners and good for the Detroit Tigers," Tigers senior vice president of business operations Duane McLean said in a statement. "Broadcast negotiations are often complex, and thanks to terrific efforts by both FSN Detroit and TV20, we've got a good agreement and there are now more opportunities for fans to follow the Tigers throughout the season -- and just in time for Opening Day!"

The over-the-air games will have a definite FSN feel. The FSN Detroit broadcast duo of Mario Impemba and Rod Allen will call the over-the-air games.

"I'm thrilled that together, we're able to give our entire community the opportunity to watch the pageantry of Opening Day in Detroit," FSN Detroit vice president/general manager Greg Hammaren said. "FSN Detroit, TV20 and the Tigers all worked as a team to produce and deliver additional games this season for fans to enjoy."

Over-the-air broadcasts have been an issue surrounding the club since last spring, when the Tigers and WKBD-TV 50 ended their 10-year association. Last season marked the first since Tigers telecasts began in 1947 that no games were broadcast locally on an over-the-air affiliate.
