The first few seasons of the Simpons are actually brutal to watch right now. Season 5-11 are probably the peak of the show. The last few years South Park and Family Guy have simply blown the Simpsons away. The Simpons is still a funny show they are just getting outshined.

Weird. I totally think they are funnier than family guy and south park still. though thats not a knock on either show. But i mean damn those shows are honestly stealing their material sometimes(especially family guy)

collective effort as usual(though one writer gets credit on the show, everyone gets some sort of input).
Matt Groening, James L. Brooks, Al Jean, Mike Scully, Ian Maxtone-Graham, George Meyer, David Mirkin, Mike Reiss, Matt Selman, John Swartzwelder, Jon Vitti are all part of the creative story process.
And one of their original well respected directors David Silverman is at the directing helm. here are the episodes he directed.
# Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire (17 December 1989) - Director
# Bart the Genius (14 January 1990) - Director
# Bart the General (4 February 1990) - Director
# Life on the Fast Lane (18 March 1990) - Director
# Some Enchanted Evening (13 May 1990) - Director
# Bart Gets an F (11 October 1990) - Director
# Treehouse of Horror (25 October 1990) - Director
# Bart vs. Thanksgiving (22 November 1990) - Director
# The Way We Was (31 January 1991) - Director
# Old Money (28 March 1991) - Director
# Black Widower (9 April 1992) - Director
# Homer's Triple Bypass (17 December 1992) - Director
# Krusty Gets Kancelled (13 May 1993) - Director
# Treehouse of Horror IV (28 October 1993) - Director
# Another Simpsons Clip Show (25 September 1994) - Director
# Homie the Clown (12 February 1995) - Director
# Mother Simpson (19 November 1995) - Director
# The Simpsons 138th Episode Spectacular (3 December 1995) - Director (as Pound Foolish)
# Treehouse of Horror XV (7 November 2004) - Director
# Goo Goo Gai Pan (13 March 2005) - Himself (voice)[/list]
Based on the episodes i think he'll direct a linear story element to it. Which is a good thing.
