When I first came here(without an invite my I add)

Kilo,

Thanks for the thoughful comments and for your ideas.

I don't want to derail this thread, but I thought the comment that I quoted above here needed to be addressed.

When we launched the site, it wasn't our intention to send out "VIP invitations" of any kind. It really was an open invitation. Unfortunately, we had to rely a good deal on word of mouth and, in some cases, letting some people figure out for themselves what we were doing.

We pooled our resources to come up with as many AIM contacts and email addresses that we could to try and get the word out, but in the end, there were just some cases (like you, I suspect) we just didn't have the necessary contact info to get ahold of everyone for a "personal" invite. Knowing that we couldn't invite everyone personally, we've always tried to make an effort to make everyone feel welcome when they register, either through a welcoming PM message, the welcome wagon thread, or just a "Welcome to WTF, we've been waiting for you" post.

That being said, I know that you take a lot of heat around here for your contrarian views, but I'll just tell you that I bet that I have read every single post that you have made here at WTF. Speaking as someone who also has been known to "call a spade a spade", I find your thoughts and contributions to be thought provoking, amusing and sometimes even a bit dilusional.

Personally, I'm glad that we have a great mixture of critical thinkers, unabashed homers, and people that fall somewhere in between. It truly does take all kinds to make this thing work.

Okay, back on topic...

^also note that Pharoah got canned from real GM for private messaging people to come over here, so it was a little hard to get the word out.

Back to the contest please!

I love the Nobody puts Darko in the corner...even though it's a play on a crappy line from a crappy movie.

That comment was made in jest - I just remember one day posting at RGM and nobody was there. I don't even remember how I found this place, I think somebody made a guerrilla posting when I happened to be online sorta deal. It wasn't a big deal, I mean I pretty much keep my contact information under lock and key and didn't really get involved in your revolutionary fighting of the man. I was just there to talk basketball for the most part, and that what I do here as well. I'm not really a regular in any of the other forums, other than an occasional opinion drive-by sorta deal.

It looks like I'm winning the contest, if even by default. "Nobody puts Darko in a corner" might have edged me out, however with Milicic in Orlando, maybe that could be used for the WTFMagic site...

Is this the History of WTF thread?

If so, it's going very well.

If not: STFU!

I think having this contest in this forum was a bad idea.

Maybe a move to the Off Topic or NBA forum might be the idea?

Make it a full blown announcement so anyone that comes here to talk basketball (and little else) will get to see this and add their opinion.

I'm sure Kilo isn't the only guy who isn't a regular on the "other" forums.

contest thread moved to NBA forum for visability purposes, at least temporarily, this extraneous stuff has been split and swatted (obviously) in an attempt to keep the contest on track

Good to see that didn't require a discussion.

Good job GD - you might have a future here
