In a follow up to the classic God of War, Kratos returns this time as the God of War. Kratos has just killed Ares, and is seated upon his new throne. Clad in armor that is a stylistic mix of Ares's suit and Kratos's own protection from his days as a Spartan general, Kratos is otherwise just as players left him. Despite his remarkable achievement, however, he is unable to rest easy. Though forgiven for his deeds, he has not exorcised the demons of his past. Amid his continuing nightmares, he must come to terms with the fact the even as a part of the Olympian panthenon, he remains subservient in some ways to other gods, and he is still not immune to their twisted machinations. Even though the game begins with Kratos imbued with full powers worthy of a god, the glory doesn't last long. Other gods, affronted by the fact that a mere mortal has joined their ranks, begin to conspire against their new brother. Kratos makes it his bloody mission to go over their heads and tackle the problem by rooting out those who can command even Zeus: the three Sisters of Fate-the gods' gods. My only concern is this game is supposed to come out in early 2007. The PS3 will have been out for at least 2 months, but GOW2 has been announced for the PS2. Why not push it back a ways and put it on the PS3? Oh well, I don't care. This came is BOUGHT the second it becomes available.

In other news, April is commonly known as the "dog days" of video games. Not many new games come out in the spring. There are 2 games coming out in April that I'm very interested in.

Hitman: Blood Money-PS2

It's going to be hard for me to play either game with Oblivion lingering on my shelf (wait, it never leaves the 360). Maybe Tre can fill us in on some Hitman details. I know he found a sweet article about it. Hook us up Tre.

This is one of the most anticipated games in my life. After dominating Hitman: Contracts on every difficulty setting, I'm ready for the next Hitman. I can not wait for this game and here is the review that got me even more fired up.

In its fourth stab at the Hitman franchise, Io Interactive is adding a few new twists. As the title implies, there's going to be a financial side to Agent 47's adventures in assassination. Between missions, your performance is rated for two things: a monetary reward and your notoriety rating. If you manage to stealth your way through a mission and make all the deaths look like accidents, you'll get a newspaper with nothing but unsuspecting obituaries for your victims. You'll also get a healthy reward that you can use to buy new weapons or upgrade your arsenal with silencers, scopes, laser sights, improved firepower, and so forth.

But if you make a big noisy mess and leave lots of witnesses, you'll get less money. You might even have to pay off your agency to clean up after you. A newspaper will report the events with an artist's rendition of Agent 47. The more you mess up, the more accurate the picture will be. This is a factor of your accumulated notoriety, which determines how likely innocent bystanders are to recognize Agent 47 and freak out, as they're wont to do in the presence of a violent killer.

Io Interactive is also addressing some issues that have plagued the series. For instance, if a patrolling guard discovered the body of one of your victims, you had no way of knowing what you did wrong when the alarm was sounded. But now you get feedback through a little picture-in-picture window, giving you a better sense of the consequences of your actions.



Agent 47 has a few new moves. If he pulls out a gun, he can casually hide it behind his body until he's ready to open fire. He can also take a human shield, a tactic befitting any ruthless assassin, which will keep enemy guards from shooting back. He can even take enemy's weapons with some slick disarming moves. And if there's nothing handy, there are plenty of new improvised weapon. Io Interactive's Tore Blystad mentions that Agent 47 can even use a pen. Perhaps not as mighty as a sword, but it'll get the job done. "There are more close-combat moves to make him more interactive with other characters rather than just shooting them," says Blystad.

The thirteen missions, which are supposed to tell a much more cohesive story than the previous games, are almost entirely set in the United States. The exception in a Paris opera mission in which you have to kill a singer during a rehearsal. The levels are still full of clever solutions for you to figure out. For instance, in the opera level, the singer is shot during the course of rehearsing her death scene. If you swap the stage gun out for a real gun, you can get someone else to do your dirty work. Alternatively, there's a chandelier that you can arrange to fall at just the right moment.

In a Vegas hotel, if you set off a fire alarm, everyone on the floor with run for the exit where you can take them out en masse with a conveniently placed bomb. In a mansion in the mountains, you can shoot the bottom out of a hot tub on a high patio, plunging the hapless tubbers to their death. During a photo shoot with scantily clad models, one of them has a little dog who will blow your cover if you try to use a disguise, but if you poison the yipping beast, you'll be able to take the photographer's place. A lot of the appeal of the Hitman games is discovering these sorts of vignettes, which can easily be missed. So one of the things you'll be able to do with your blood money is buy hints that will reveal a level's tricks in all their grisly charm. Hitman Bloodmoney is set to arrive on PC, Xbox and PlayStation 2 this fall.

I've never played a Hitman game, but I'll agree in that this one looks to be very good.

I have also dominated all the Hitmans. I heard they're making a movie about it too.

Has anyone else played the Godfather game? I like it but I see how gaming snobs wouldn't, for a novice like myself it is entertaining.

It's not out for 360 yet (I don't think) but it got a shoddy review from PSM (6.5 out of 10, I think). That's the only review I've seen (I admit, I'm not really interested) for it so far. And, 360 is the only system I've got, so I can't play it yet.

As for new and upcoming games -- I'll probably be getting MLB 2k6 and I'll give the new Tomb Raider a rent -- supposedly it is pretty good.

Its only entertaining if you love the godfather. I have it and love it. In fact its the game that "mafia" should have been. The controls are decent not great. The side missions are going to be repetitive at some point(not yet for me but i can see it coming). But with that said i still love it. I love the interrogation meter thing they stole from the punisher game. Slapping some guy around in order to get a cut of his business is fun. Though some have different weak spots than others(had to throw this one guy through his front window before he got the point). [smilie=angel.gif]

Much like the matrix path of neo. I say fuck the low rating Matrix and the godfather are the two very underrated games IMO.


I also picked Up Metal Gear Solid 3 Online special edition. I like that shit too. Though playing online takes some getting used to(gotta get your switching to first person aim mode speed down). Once you get it down its pretty fun. But I mainly picked it up because i didnt get a chance to finish it when i rented it last year.

About Head Coach, I've got to agree with e-ray. Eventually, I'm going to want to actually play a game. That's the cool thing about Madden and College Football. You get to build up your team, make coaching/exectutive decisons, then you get to play with your new players. I know a few people who will be way down with Head Coach, it's a good idea, but I just need a little more action. (On a side note, Wizzle told me that GameStop is now taking reservations for NCAA 07. Yeeeeah! [smilie=horns.gif] )

One last thing, the Hitman games are awesome. I was feeling the original game that was only for the PC. I thought it was a super sweet idea for a video game. Hitman 2 on the PS2 was money in the bank. Now you get get it for $14.99. I was playing other things at the time and never got a chance to play Contracts. I'm going to get the game from Tre pretty quick and I'm sure it's a can't miss game. Blood Money sounds like a game that could actually make me turn on my PS2 instead of the 360.

You know, I think the graphics on the 360 are a bit underrated. I mean, I am having a really hard time going back and playing games on the XBOX right now because I've been mainly playing my 360.

I think we've gotten to a point with graphics where we're not going to see that huge leap that we're used to, but we are going to start to see more detail oriented graphics, the small things, if you will.

i think graphics period are overrated. As pretty as your MLB 2k may look. if it aint fun its useless. Honestly in the end i'll be measuring the level of gameplay and entertaining presentation when i compare 360 and ps3 this fall.

I find it ironic that some company was smart enough to try something different on 360 , even if it does cause them to lose out on having some detailed resolution vs other hi res games on the system.

Blah. Those graphics make me want to throw up compared to Oblivion. OK, not really, but I just don't want the game since I don't have Live, and it would therefore be a 60 dollar souvenir.

And Rorschach, please don't tell me graphics don't matter. They help attain a much higher sense of realism. I know a game can be fun without them, but with them, they're even better. 1.) i never said they dont matter. just that they are overrated
2.) ummm well there are quite a few not so great games with graphics that some consider great because of the graphics. those types of games are too plentiful in the market and get too much respect IMO.


And one more thing. You'll never get 100 percent realism in graphics. not for a long ass time. the realism is in responsive gameplay and entertaining elements. Graphics are nice. but if they are atleast solid or average, its irrelevent to the other elements.

Exactly. I'd have to say my only complaint about Oblivion is the lack of enemy variety. I'd have liked to see more animals/creatures. Such a minor complaint though.

This thread has been dead for a while. Maybe this will revive it. I was just messing around on gamerankings.com and saw this article about NBA Street Homecourt on the 360 and the PS3. I guess the "career" mode is back and this time you have to beat all the NBA studs on their homecourts like beating coverboy Carmelo Anthony at Baltimore's Cloverdale Courts. I think most of us may feel a little burnt out on NBA Street, but this is worth a look, just check out the screenshots. Damn!

Goddamn... That game has been out for the PC for like 2 years now. What the fuck's the point of releasing it for the 360 at all let alone taking so long to do it?

Just a hunch, but probably for those of us non-PC gamers who haven't played it yet.

That and the fact they're also releasing Episodes One and Two with it, along with another game. So technically it will be four games in one.

God of War II will be released on March 13 for the PS2. Enjoy.

I see your point, but I absolutely hate it when people think these games hold a candle to the next generation games... To me, the 360 is worth EVERY penny, games like Gears of War, Rainbow Six, NBA 2K7, Dead Rising, Test Drive Unlimited, and many more are sick and blow away anything the PS2 can handle anymore.

Though I can't say I played each for long periods of time. Either way theres nothing going on that would put me in a rush to upgrade. Just how I see it right now. Gutz, YESSSIR! Everything I'm looking for in a game. Tough to top RE4 though, IMO, the best game of all time.

bangpow, if you still have a PS2, you MUST go and buy the original God of War. You can probably easily get it for under 20 bucks and it'll be a game experience you'll never forget.

That's the reason, I traded in my PS2 long ago and have never felt the need to scoop up another one.

I watched my friend beat the end, and I had a blast. Just watching.

Has anyone played BioShock? I've heard great things so far. Currently at 96.1% and is rated the #1 game in the history of the Xbox 360. I'm not a huge FPS guy, but this is worth a look.

I have it, it's my first game from Gamefly. I've played a couple of hours so far... It's tits. Very similar to Oblivion in terms of gameplay, but the atmosphere is unbelievable.

Played the demo and just about peed my pants for 2 reasons. Sheer terror and enjoyment.

I thought it was a good game - the best on the 360 so far. But at the same time, I'm not sure it deserved the 9.7 rating.

It was creepy, great graphics, a lot of fun, and had a good story. But I thought there were some times where it got a little repetitive.

I would give it about a 9.4.

"The" 9.7 rating? Who is the be all, end all? Remember, everything's objective. And I'd agree with you... I'm not finished yet, but as of now, I'd go somewhere between 9-9.5.

Downloaded the Uncharted Demo. I'm defintely buying that game. The screenshots are misleading. The game has alot of gun play from what I played and the trailer. Great work from the team that was responsible for the Jak and Daxter games. As good as the graphics look. They claim that they only used 30 percent of the PS3's power.

The gameply is pretty smooth and simple. Only complaint is the dodge/roll button being the same as the take cover button. Causes you to lean against the wall when roll to it sometimes. Did bother me except once when i was getting shot at by like 4-5 guys from different angles.

Assassin's Creed is looking pretty good, that's next for me, followed by Mass Effect.

I've heard nothing but good things about it. COD3 surprised me because I was into it and never really was a fan of the series.

Hey E-Ray. Read hands on article about Assassin's creed. Wasnt too flattering. Said that the original review was worse, but Ubisoft sent them a closer to final version. They were only slightly more positive unfortunately. They warn that its not completely done so take it for what its worth w/o for knowing what to expect. Could be the writers that played the game suck. that wouldnt be a first.

IGN and 1up are the only ones so far to give it lower than an 8.

I trust GI more than IGN. So my guess is that they fixed whatever was iffy. I still rather play a demo. Hopefully one makes it to the PS3 store. Either way I hope its nice. Only thing on my plate is Uncharted and NBA 2k8 at some point. With probably grab COD4 next month.

Also picked up Heavenly Sword Wednesday, and that game is damn good. How much you like it will depend on how much you like the Sixaxis. Because you get to use the Sixaxis quite a bit.

Also got Motor Storm. Surprised the fuck outta me how fun that game is. The graphics on it were surprisingly better than I thought they'd be too.

yep, they have been working on this game since possibly 6 months before ps3's launch. the graphics on the cars will reflect that hard work something fierce. They got the mustangs down perfectly.

It'll be here in June.

I actually got ACII and played L4D2. While L4D2 was fun, ACII was just an awesome game. The plot, like the first, was silly. But assassinating people in the 15th century was fantastic.

If you're thinking about scrapping your ps3, then by all means do it. Means that you aren't into it's games apparently. Too bad for you, but no need to force yourself to roll with it. If you are keeping it, then it's a no brainer to get the version they originally designed for ps3 and comes on one disc. That's all up to you though.

Love heavy rain, but it's not for everyone. It's a story you control and not a typical game at all. I love it's innovation, but gaming these days is funded by alot of narrow minded shooter/action loving people. Valkyrie Chronicles is strictly strategy RPG, not my taste at all(think Final Fantasy tactics), but it is high quality for that genre. God of War 3? Dude if you own a ps3 and dont own this game on March 16th your better be:
1.) too young
2.) too gay
3.) or too pathetic.

35 gb of HQ gaming from a franchise that's been great.

my issue is every 3rd party game I buy, I get for the 360 because of the added benefit of xbox live. I tried getting into games like warhawk and uncharted 2, but it just didnt take.

I havent been really hooked on a 1st party PS3 game since resistance.

Final fantasy XIII is really the only reason Ive kept my ps3 around, before they announced it would be ported to the 360.

Dont get me wrong, I love blu ray to death, so my ps3 gets plenty of use. I just havent used it for gaming much over the past 3 years.

BTW, God of war 3 looks every bit as good as the first two, but Im not sure if ill have the time to play it, with FFXIII coming out a week earlier. I really only have time in my day to play one game, and I'll still be working on AVP to boot. The same thing happened to me with Bioshock. As much as I wanted to play it, I never had enough time to justify the purchase.

AVP is a very underrated game, BTW. it needs online patches galore but the foundation is very solid. Puts you right in the movie atmosphere.

So it's good for fans of the movie.

If you played the first two GoW's, then you owe it to yourself to play the last one. The demo is available on PSN, pretty awesome.

I remain unmoved by AVP. It didnt do much to justify a 60 dollar purchase for me, maybe if it were an online only psn game for like 14.99-19.99. It's online component is ok enough to be worth that. But as a whole not a well polished game to me. Controls are ok but not great(for the aliens they are mediocre when you're trying to fluently go from ceiling to wall to floor), the level designs are average at best, and the maps probably need to be smaller for better chaos.

It seems to be hit and miss for most people. Some love it, and some are luke warm on it. I don't believe the "if you love the movies its a must buy" thing since i'm a fan of every alien/predator(even Alien Resurrection) movie besides the first AVP (i did like the more violent AVP:Requiem though). I kinda wished they woulda stuck with that Aliens: Colonial Marines game they scrapped in favor of this. With that said the game has sold well(especially in the UK) so to each his own.

I thought the authenticity of the game was excellent. They totally nailed every sight and sound from the movies. The controls keep it from being an A+ game, but other than that I have no real issues. I liked the maps, but thought they could have used more, and I hope they will at some point release old-school movie maps via DLC.

The marine campaign mode is awesome as a FPS horror game, albeit a tad short, and I would have liked to face more than one predator. The predator campaign I have yet to complete but I appreciate that it manages to give a totally different feel while telling a different side of the same story. I plan on trying the alien campaign after that.

So I've played about 5 total hours of video games in 2013. I just don't have much time anymore and there haven't been any games I'm interested in. So why is it that all the interesting games all come out within one or two weeks of each other? The end of October/early November features Dead Rising 3, Assassin's Creed 4 and Arkham Origins. I think GTA 5 is somewhere near there as well.

GTA 5 is September 17. I need to play Bioshock 2, Bioshock Infinite, AC2, AC3, Last of Us, others that I'm forgetting, before the next gen. no way do I get that done.

I never got to BioShock 2 or BioShock Infinite - loved the first though.

AC2 is one of my top 3 games of all time. Just a phenomenal game - make sure you play that. AC Brotherhood was very good, Revalations was above average and AC3 was very disappointing, mainly because the main character was kind of a douche. Looking forward to 4 though.

AC2 is definitely next, I've got the Ezio trilogy sitting out on the TV stand. It will have to combat Madden for time, however. Good to hear that it's good.
