View Full Version : Official Old School Soft Drink Thread MOLA1 03-29-2006, 12:30 PM http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/4666/brandsrightcactus29vm.gif I'm thirsty and I used to love this stuff. Where can I find it? Black Dynamite 03-29-2006, 12:34 PM never heard of it. my old school drink was this though http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/c5/MYcans.jpg WTFchris 03-29-2006, 01:22 PM This stuff was good: http://www.ashbev.com/images/dads-rootbeer.gif Don't forget Giffman's drink of choice: http://www2.coca-cola.com/brands/img/brands_left_tab.jpg MOLA1 03-29-2006, 01:29 PM Yeah, but you can find Tab everywhere. Same with Fresca. This thread's for Shasta and Jolt. Black Dynamite 03-29-2006, 01:31 PM nothing greater than crush in a glass bottle. http://www.sodaking.com/images/crush_us_big.jpg is it still available glass bottle mode? EDIT:nevermind its still out there somewhere. but it aint the same. [smilie=anxious.gif] WTFchris 03-29-2006, 01:32 PM wasn't there a soda like Jolt cola but it was citrus based? I think I remember there being one like that. It wasn't as popular as Jolt was, and this was before Mountain Dew was that popular. DrRay11 03-29-2006, 01:33 PM ^^Yes. I just had an Orange Crush in a glass bottle a few days ago. Glenn 03-29-2006, 01:47 PM I think Mello Yello has been renamed "Vault", seems like the same stuff to me at least. My local grocer carries Crush in glass bottles. Orange, Grape, Raspberry and a few others. Some of the Saginaw guys here might remember "The Pop Shop". They sold all kinds of different flavors in the glass bottle. You go and pick out whatever flavors you want (mix and match) in a plastic crate. Don't think that place exists anymore though. I think the brand of pop was "National Beverage Co." or something like that if memory serves. Kilo 03-29-2006, 02:30 PM There is a Pop Shoppe an hour or so outside Windsor with the Fruit Punch, Black Cherry, Lime Rickey(though it's green now, not the couudy white I remember), cream soda etc. It's not the same company or even flavors though. Some guy grew up on the stuff as a youngster abd bot the brand in 2002. There was a factory in Windsor that stayed open until the early 90's, eventhough the history on the lined site(below) says it went belly-up in '83 or so. See if there is a retailer near you- http://www.thepopshoppe.com/flash_site/main.html Glenn 03-29-2006, 02:32 PM I think that's a different company. That website says they aren't in the US yet (only Canada). The place I'm referencing was sort of dingy and it was probably 20+ years ago. Darth Thanatos 03-29-2006, 02:35 PM Good lord, ya'll some ooooooold school folk. I loved orange Crush. That stuff was off the chain. Kilo 03-29-2006, 02:39 PM I think that's a different company. That website says they aren't in the US yet (only Canada). The place I'm referencing was sort of dingy and it was probably 20+ years ago. Yeah, a guy is trying to ressurect the dead brand. We had the exact same dingy outlet with the red pop shoppe crates in Windsor, where you could watch the bottles being filled and such that closed in the early '90's. Kilo 03-29-2006, 02:42 PM What about this stuff - stuff was nasty as hell and the globules were sorta gross to drink. No wonder it didn't last long... http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/9/99/Orbitzsoda.jpg/300px-Orbitzsoda.jpg WTFchris 03-29-2006, 02:45 PM wasn't there a soda like Jolt cola but it was citrus based? TK 03-30-2006, 12:05 PM ^you might want to scroll to the top of the page TK. My bad. All I saw was a red x. Also, remember the SNL commercial about Crystal Gravy? People slopping clear gunk all over their spuds and crap? That was hilarious. Vinny 03-30-2006, 01:40 PM All pop was great in those old, oversized glass bottles (18 oz I think??). For some reason it just tasted better, didn't matter what kind. Glenn 03-30-2006, 03:32 PM http://www.elogo.ru/gifs/R/royal_crown_cola_logo.gif MOLA1 03-30-2006, 03:39 PM Not oldschool. I still get it from every once in a while and at almost ANY store I go to, it's there. Come one mo' glenn. Glenn 03-30-2006, 04:03 PM So it's only oldschool if it's not made anymore? I got thrown off by Crush, Dad's, Tab, etc. I'm sure I'll come up with another one. MOLA1 03-30-2006, 04:08 PM Nah, it's all good. The original title of this thread was "what ever happened to..." and then my post was "Cactus Cooler" -- because I'm dying to have some again. It was my favorite back in the day. After Gutz's post, I figured to change it up. Any help on the Cactus Cooler? Darth Thanatos 03-30-2006, 04:13 PM Squirt? [smilie=piss2.gif] I remember that. That was like a fashion drink. It tasted like shit, but some people drank it anyways just to try to look cool. Kstat 04-03-2006, 07:06 PM Faygo Redpop. I refuse to drink any other kind of soda. zeebneebV.3 04-04-2006, 02:17 AM I don't know if alot of you remember, but, All soda use to be excellent, not only becuase it was in GLASS(Glass imparts NO taste into the liquid) but all Sodas use to be flavored with CANE SUGAR, NOT high frutrose corn syrup. That crap leves a NASTY slime in your mouth and thraot, whereas the old stuff was refreshing. If you can find it, hit a local dive party store, and find Coke imported from Mexico. Some of it is still made the RIGHT WAY, and its awesome. NOTHING IN THIS WORLD TOPPED Mountain Dew in a glass bottle though. I cant drink the crap now as it tastes like ass, but man, it use to be like liquid sex. Mr. Oobir 04-04-2006, 04:10 AM Soda Pop Stop (http://www.sodapopstop.com/home.cfm) Pop the Soda Stop (http://www.popsoda.com/) These websites should have most of your favorites. From them, I have ordered, all in glass bottles: Dad's Root Beer (not as good as I remember), Moxie (a true classic, but I didn't find it anything special), Henry Weinhard's Root Beer (the best ever), Vernors (better than anything else), and others. I recommend their use. (Note: the first site requires $15.00 worth of items to purchase, and the second took a month to ship.) westcoastones 04-04-2006, 04:11 AM And you call yourselves Detroiters http://www.dpsu.com/vernors.html WTFchris 04-04-2006, 10:24 AM Why does Schwepps own Vernors? Wouldn't that be like Coca Cola owning RC Cola or something? MOLA1 04-04-2006, 10:27 AM And you call yourselves Detroiters http://www.dpsu.com/vernors.htmlTastes great with this... http://www.whisky.fr/contenu/img/415.gif |
