Heat coach Pat Riley downplayed the option of adding another big man to a roster that already is at the 15-player limit. Only a player not on another roster after March 1, such as free-agent Elden Campbell, would be eligible for the playoffs. Antonio Davis, who was released Thursday by Toronto, could only finish out the regular season.

Nothing concrete but that would be interesting, I wonder if Soup would do that? I would think Kevin Willis is a more likely a better fit and has a history with the Heat.

I really don't believe it is an option. Easy is retired. He was in terrible physical shape(his knees are shot) last season, and I don't think they year off would have helped, as it was siad he's have chronic knee issues the rest of his life and not using them they probably worstened.

Mike Valente asked about Campbell when interviewing Dumars after the Milicic/Arroyo deal that opened up a roster spot and Joe simply stated that Elden was retired, and I assume Joe would have talked to him sometime or another. I know that Dumars checked in on Soup before he signed Davis in the off-season.

The thing with Campbell or Kevin Willis is that Miami likely wouldn't have a play-off roster spot available for them as Mourning is expected back sometime during the playoffs and the Heat will carry himon their playoff roster. What oldtimer is going to bust their ass into shape for ten or so games?? AD made a helluva lot more sense, but he's said to be too hurt to play, and even in that case Miami fan didn't see that as an option because Miami would have to open up a roster spot for him and they like their kids as well.

Soup's bowl is empty. There's no way he'll sign with the Heat or any other team.

What's the point of risking your health for a dozen games, not to mention being left off the postseason roster?

Did we ever get confirmation on the playoff roster issue? I mean there have been various reports saying that the roster changes game to game like in the reg season, others say it is round to round, lastly others say it is set and can't be changed. I mean if Zo is sitting round 1 it could make sense for Miami to sign somebody then sit them when Zo is healthy.

Even if he signed. It means little to nothing against the Pistons. Soup doesn't have the mobility to be effective against Wallace/Wallace/Dyess, or even Davis.

I don't look as it as a match up move as a move that could allow Shaq to rest for the Pistons.

Bottom line is a 2-4 week injury on a guy like Ben,Sheed, TD or KG is a 2-4 week injury. For guy who has a compromised immune system, can't take pain killers and is ove 35 I doubt the injury doesn't linger until after the season is over.

Last year Soup said he would only play in LA or retire. He said he wanted to go back to LA where he used to play, and that it was nothing personal with Detroit for retiring, just that he missed the city of LA.

I doubt he plays anywhere again, but I highly doubt he plays for anyone but the Lakers ever again.

Thats a good perspective. Way to take it next level.

Basically, it works like this. If you are on a roster on March 1st, you can only play in the playoffs for that team. If you aren't, you can play in the playoffs for the next team you sign with.

So Campbell can play in the playoffs for Miami (or anyone). Davis can only play in the playoffs for Toronto.

Shags, I don't think JS was questioning that part, I think he was wondering when the active rosters have to be set for each playoff game/series.

For example, when do we have to name our 12 active players for any particular game/series? Can it be changed on a game by game basis, a series by series basis, or do you have to declare it before the playoffs and have it set in stone throughout?
