View Full Version : patrick o'bryant
b-diddy 03-19-2006, 01:38 PM talk about under the radar. he's outplaying a projected lottery center out there.
i'd draft him in a heartbeat if its possible (im guessing after today he wont be a complete unknown anymore).
anyone think he comes out this year? if he does, where does he go?

i know nbadraft.net is not the best scoure out there, but they got him going 6th in the 2007 mock, which would be our pick in that case [smilie=2thumbsup.g:
Kstat 03-19-2006, 01:46 PM a month ago I suggested this kid as a potential target with the Orlando pick.
He doesnt have that mind-blowing size or athletic ability, but the kid flat-out knows how to play the pivot ata very high level. He's got a lot of moves, plays fundamentally sound on both ends, and plays very much under control in the post.
Might I add, this kid has an awesome FT stroke, which is a huge asset for a center.
There looks to be a lot of bigs coming out next year. O'Bryant won't come out this year unless a lottery team makes an iron clad promise sorta deal...
Kstat 03-19-2006, 02:38 PM He clearly needs one more year to be a top-10 lock.
He needs to hit the weight room. He loses ground too easily in the paint.
Draft Express has him mocked at 17th in this years draft. He could really move due to Bradley's Tournement run though.
detroitsportscity 03-19-2006, 05:15 PM He dominated that game.
26 points, especially when his coach rests him as much as he does was really impressive.
Wasn't a gaping hole on D either.
i know some hate to play this game, but who does he remind you of, that's already in the NBA? i ask because i haven't really seen him play.
Kstat 03-19-2006, 10:08 PM Hardly any old-school centers like that today anymore.
Brad Daugherty was an excellent comparison, but I can't think of anybody today.
I'd say Okur with less range and a better post game.
How about fluid/smooth Ilgauskas??
detroitsportscity 03-19-2006, 10:50 PM Yao in that he is fundamentally sound, size wise I could call him a tall Channing Frye, wants to have the Kareem-style jump hook, but wasn't looking good at that today. Not really sure who I could best compare him to.
Watch him play Memphis on Thursday.
b-diddy 03-19-2006, 11:34 PM not sure theres a good comparison (i'd say camby if i had to pick), but he's easy to describe.
mobile, not a stiff, fundamentally strong. looks to be very coachable.
i dont know if i'd take him in the high lottery yet. i guess in 2007 he could be much improved, but he looks more like a mid first rounder to me.
mercury 03-20-2006, 12:17 AM Reminds me of Magloire... although Magloire has taken a step back this year.
Kstat 03-20-2006, 12:29 AM He's much more mobile and not nearly as strong as Maglore.
let's see, we've got a mix of: Daugherty, Okur, Ilgauskas, Yao, Channing Frye, Kareem, Camby, and Magloire.
thanks for clearing things up, guys, LOL (i know, i know, i was asking for it when i asked for the comparison)
i'll definitely check out his game on Thursday.
zeebneebV.3 03-20-2006, 10:04 AM I wonder if Joe could swing a deal this year with the team that drafts Morrison. Two picks, a player, e.t.c.?
That kid just wants to win, and would fit great here.
His defense needs work, but he's like a white version of Pierce/RIP.

He can score, he can shoot the 3pointer and he can't play defense.
Seems like the perfect fit for Flip's system.
I dunno, he might have an uglier moustache tham Milicic, and word is that Milicic's terrible attempt at facial hair was the real reason why he had to be dealt.

thats acceptable too IMO. theres no room for ugly staches on this team. Joe D would not accept his Classic Blend Stache legacy go down in serbian flames.
b-diddy 06-08-2006, 03:39 PM "Patrick O'Bryant, Cedric Simmons, Kyle Lowry and Thabo Sefolosha are high-level sleepers in the draft, as discussed in an earlier blog. O'Bryant, in fact, might merit consideration as the No. 1 pick."-chad ford
wowzers. i love patrick obryant. but number 1?
