The Detroit Pistons try to win their eighth straight game at the Verizon Center, and avenge an earlier loss to the Washington Wizards when they go for their 50th victory of the season.

Detroit, which owns the best record in the NBA, hasn't lost at Washington since a 103-96 defeat on March 14, 2001. The Pistons can also clinch their fifth straight 50-win season with a victory.

Washington, though, has already beaten Detroit this season and is one of just two visiting teams to win at The Palace of Auburn Hills. Gilbert Arenas scored 39 points despite shooting 10-for-32, and the Pistons had three starters foul out in the Wizards' 120-114 double-overtime victory on Nov. 25.

Detroit enters this contest after surviving to beat Chicago 106-101 on Wednesday. The Pistons outscored the Bulls 38-37 in the fourth quarter as Richard Hamilton and Rasheed Wallace each scored 14 points in the period.

"That was kind of fun," point guard Chauncey Billups said. "It was a high-tempo shootout until the end. Our offense is good, and we have some great offensive players, but defense is still what we do."

The Pistons clinched a playoff berth with the victory, but they have bigger goals in mind with a second straight Central Division crown their next target.

"We want to keep this going and we're all about the next game," Billups said. "It's not about the game after that or the game in two weeks. We're just focusing on the next game."

Washington is trying to avoid losing consecutive home games for the first time since dropping three straight from Dec. 30-Jan. 3. The Wizards have lost five of six overall after a 118-112 defeat at Miami on Wednesday.

Although Washington has allowed an average of 115 points over its last four games and five of its last eight opponents have shot at least 50 percent from the field, coach Eddie Jordan was satisfied with Wednesday's effort.

"If we continue to play like that, we are going to be a pretty good team to finish the season," Jordan said.

Washington is in sixth place in the crowded Eastern Conference with Philadelphia and Milwaukee close behind.

i've got to imagine that Arenas is going to use this as a statement game, for his perceived All-Star minutes snub. he's going to be looking to go off for 30-40+ to show up Flip.

after a long break, hopefully the pistons are rested and ready to whoop some ass. Tayshaun hurt his knee last game, so we'll see how he's recovered.

Should the Pistons be worrying who their first round opp will be?

Bucks

Sixers

These guys....

Overall, who gives them the worst fits? I'm sure Detroit will prevail regardless of opponent, but you'd like round one to be as close to a warm-up as possible.

If it matters, will we see the Pistons attempt to control to seedings? They have their division all but wrapped up, and the Heat keep stumbling against subpar teams, so perhaps home court throughout is also wrapped up (9.5. back with 22 to play).

Does it matter?

Kilo
03-11-2006, 05:58 PM
I believe only bad things happen when you try to fix the seedings. Play hard, try to win and let things work out as they may.

Besides everything is so close, it likely won't be decided until the last couple games of the season. How would we set-up the seeding?? If we don't want to play Washington we lay down for them?? What if they then go on a losing streak and only squeeze into the play-offs as 8th seed because of a tie-breaker?

I'd like to play Milwaukee all things considered, with Cleveland playing Washington in the first, Indiana playing NJ and Miami drawing Philly.

If the Wizards play like this every game they'll sweep us in the playoffs.

There's NO defense for the shots they threw up tonight. I'd like to say we could have defended them better, but that's not true. Half their shots were pretty much thrown up.

Flip needs to go to a 9 man rotation with the 4 D's coming off the bench.

PG- Delk
SG/SF- Delfino
PF- Dice
C- Dale

I don't see a reason to play Lindsey in situations outside of needing to ball-hawk a fast PG/SG on occassion with Delk being tons better offensively. Evans is a liability on defense. Delfino should be seeing all of his minutes. He is just as good a three point shooter IMO, and a better player in every aspect aside from ORebs. Dale Davis has continually given this team a lift defensivly when he's in the game, so he needs to see 5-6 minutes at minimum.

Kstat
03-11-2006, 09:32 PM
Also Dice can't play defense without fouling. He has no buisness being trusted with defending the paint.

03-11-2006, 10:06 PM
We had at least 12 dumb 3's tonight. It's a consistent problem. Even Flip has acknowledged that the guys are getting lazy and chucking rather than running the offense. Just like with the Nuggets game we played right into a no-D playing running teams hands by chucking a bunch of stupid long shots early in the clock. These are the types of games where we need to slow it down and force them to play a half court game.

Kstat

03-11-2006, 10:21 PM
Ugh. They were dumb because they were dumb. It doesn't matter if they go in or not. We made 1 or 2 of those dumb 3's. It started on the very 1st possesion of the game. Tay steals the tip, hands the ball to Chauncey, Billups takes it over to the right wing, gets a pick set for him then chucks up a 3. Not even one pass on that possesion. Fucking sickening.

And I don't give a single solitary shit how many dumb 3's the Wiz took. They are a middle of the pact team in the East. We're title contenders. Saying that the Wiz took more stupid shots doesn't make the fact that we on a nightly basis take a lot of stupid shots any better.

The 3ball is a nice weapon when used properly. Move the ball around and get the best shot we can. If that is a 3 great. Every dumb 3 early in the clock is a potentially a dunk for Sheed, Ben, Dice, Evan, Tay, Delfino or a lay-up Rip Or an open 15-20 foot jumper. We are at our best when that 3 ball comes off of real good ball movement. It's a killer when a team play 15-20 seconds of great D and Sheed, Billups or Rip manges to get open and can a 3.

Haven't impressed? This ain't no SunBelt Conference, Kiko. It's the NB fucking aye!!!

I don't care how shitty a first half schedule one might have, it's still a first half schedule full of the best talent this planet has to offer. Even the shit teams have a lucky chance night in and night out (the Knicks are dead last in the NBA.... meaning every one of their 17 wins came against a supeior opponent).

Give the Pistons credit where credit is due: They are the top team in the East, and everybody is gunning for them, meaning all bring their "A" game when playing the Pistons -- and they STILL have 49 wins.

I actually have to agree with Diddy. There were so many moments when I was
annoyed by the long 2 or the 3 pointers that we chucked tonight. All they do
is make for long ass rebounds (which we seldom get) and get burned in transition.

Let's start rebounding and playing D now. I wouldn't be suprised to see
us destroy cats going forward. We played like shit defensively. It was really
the only game this year that I looked at and was actually annoyed or angry.

1) It would be nice that after 60 something games if Flip could decide on a fucking rotation, and bring stability to that area of the game

2) It would be nice to see the pistons stop taking nights off, and instead of giving lip service though the media, actually wake the fuck up and play

3) After showing his first signs of life in almost 2 months, Prince got off to a great start and I didnt see much of him after that. What the hell Flip?

4) The 3 chucking is beyond ridiculous. Its atrocious. Its gross. Tonight, whenever sheed decided to post up, You would have thought he was the greatest player in NBA history.

5) Tony Delk is sweet. Him and Delfino need more Burn, and Evans needs to get less PT. Delfino is obviously more talented and consistent minutes are only going to help it more.

6) This team is just lazy, and Billups said it in his post game interview, they're just "bored" They're coasting. Its amazing how when they play a team like the spurs, how they just whooped them, and badly. That says to me (and it should to everyone else) that when this team wants to nut up and play, no1 in the world is going to beat them. Its just frustrating to watch them lose to these shitty lower level teams that we should be killing.

So they are not concerned about HCA?

Wasn't that the bullshit story we were fed earlier in the season?

I'm not overly concerned though.

Yes, we've lost a few games we should have won but on the bright side the bench is getting decent minutes for the most part.

That can only help us in the post-season.

Delk seems like the golden boy at the moment and looking at the boxscore he had a good game.

Just how good was he? Did he actually make an impact or did he quietly have a good game?

Kstat
03-12-2006, 03:35 AM
Delk is the kind of player where you KNOW when he's on the court. He doesn't have "quiet" games.

Delk's style reminds me a lot of Vinnie Johnson. Obviously not as good as Vinnie, but when Delk steps on to the floor, he's looking to score. He can shoot, slash, get to the FT line, whatever. The guy finds a way to put points on the board.

Frankly, I love having a player of his mentality off the bench. We haven't had a reserve guard like him since Barry left.

Delfino's too passive on offense and Mo is too retarded to carry the offensive burden. I wouldn't want to do that to him anyway, because I think he's a distributor, and not a scorer.

Delk's a guy capable of dropping 20+ any given game. His defense is also surprisingly above average.

Frankly, I'd make him the 3rd guard right now and let Delfino and Mo duke it out for backup SF.

Delk may not be a great assist guy, but he looks very solid handling the ball. Better than Lindsey, easily.

Like I said in posts before this, if they were really truly concerned with HCA, they wouldn’t lose these games. They would keep it close and put it away in the 4th if they were bored. But they're not. But i'm not worried

As for Delk, he kept us in it for the time he was out there. He had a major impact. He's feisty, and can really hit the jumper. He was huge out there.

The problem can only be one of two things:

1. They're more worried about tired legs and injury than they are home court advantage. They've grown lazy, don't feel they have much to play for, consider these the dog days, and are just riding out the string right now...

or

2. They have no talent, cannot compete with average teams, and went from the best team in the league to a lottery team since the all star break. The only reason they were on pace to win 70 games was Darko/Arroyo, and without them, they are worse than the Knicks.

Something tells me its not #2 - especially since (although I only watched part of the game) it seemed like the Wizards were playing on double doses of speed, and the Pistons were in super duper slo mo last night. I mean, they were just BLOWING by our guys like they were statues all night long. I don't remember if it was Butler or Arenas, who absolutely blew past our guys and dunked the ball. It looked like he was playing against cardboard cutouts. Then, fucking Etan Thomas (or some other scrub Thomas with a Predator hairdo) BLOWS by Ben or Sheed for a reverse slam - posterized him - but it really looked like he was playing against a poster, instead of a live human being.
