View Full Version : Yellow Fever kdawg32086 03-09-2006, 06:50 PM This video is hilarious. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5847984513475560733&q=Yellow+Fever Unibomber 03-09-2006, 11:22 PM Really random, often stupid, but funny as hell. DynamiteK 03-14-2006, 03:07 AM i'd give the video a C+ or a B- depending on my mood. What i liked about it: An asian actually cared enough about his asian american identity to make a video about yellow fever. what i didn't like about it: -the fact that the asian dude thought it was due to something physical -the fact that the indian dude though it was due to personality -the fact that NO ONE in the video thought it was due to stereotypes perpetuated in american culture. -and the fact that everyone in the video was really dorky DynamiteK 03-14-2006, 03:24 AM The main reason why white guys like Asian women is the perception of Exoticism- the fact that Asian women look so different/unique than other women they are used to. The whole concept of passivity/ feminity/ childness that many people talk about asian women having plays some role in this perception, however it is just a part of it, not the direct cause of it. The feminity/childness may hold true for some Asian women, but has created a self-fulfilling lens to view all asian women, regardless of their personality or characteristics. Asian women, whether they are or not, are viewed as submissive and ready for the taking. This perception is also ingrained deeper in the american mentality due to the high correlation of historical military occupation and asian prostitution. Now i'm not saying you have to say "No" to hookers, but this mentality has contributed back in the states to a whole passive/agressive asian female sexuality- where non-asians think of asian women as both submissive, but passively desiring them- whether they are or not. Its a combination of both innocence and sexuality at the same time- which is why white dudes love images like school girls, geishas and nurses. Innocent looking on the outside, but a freak in bed. The whole Doll-like perception of appearance goes back to the perception of Exoticism. Because non-Asians see Asians as doll-like, this adds to the whole desire to turn them into a fetish, or some kind of conquest to collect(ie- have sex) with them. The relationship with Anime/video games/marital arts adds to the sense of escapism that asian women are from some far away fantasy land- thus adding to the perception that they are foreign and exotic. If you look at the Asian women that are popular in mainstream America, the more 'Asian'-looking they are, the better. For example, Asians in Asia prefer girls with bigger eyes than smaller eyes. In America, however, the more slanted the eyes, the better because its more 'Asian' looking and more foreign. And if you want an example of white people treating asians as dolls, look no further than Gwen Stefani and her use of asian girls as nothing more than fashion accessories... another added factor, is that Asians are largely composed of immigrants, and are from a collectivist culture. As collectivists, 'fitting in' is very important, and this carries over to dating preference. Many asians think that dating an American is a true sign of 'fitting in' America society, or makes them 'more of an American'. They think- 'why date an asian if we could have/have been the whole time in asia? we're in america now, so i should date an american.' Think about it- if you went to Japan, would you look to date a White girl? So if white guys are intrigued by the exoticness of Asian girls, and Asian girls are seeking Americans, then its only natural that they hook-up. The only real perceived losers in this situation are the asian dudes, however there continue to be asian babies these days, so that means that at least they're getting laid somewhere. They're getting their sex, the only thing bad about them is the way that the media and stereotypes in America portray them as asexual or efeminine. An asian male will never be portrayed as sexy or as a sex symbol in the mainstream american media. Do you know why? There was actually a time in American history when asian men were feared as sexual beings. White people were originally afraid of asians comming into the country at the start of asian immigration, and with this came the fear of asian men stealing white women. In order to deal with this fear, stereotypes have been successfully promoted to dimish the asian male sexuality, for example, dimishing the perceived size of their penis. There is no better way to make fun of a man's sexuality, than to denny him having a penis. Yellow Fever is a reality, and it is due to many stereotypes and social factors. Unfortunately, Asian males don't really care about it, and if they do, the videos they make aren't very good. geerussell 03-14-2006, 04:01 AM This perception is also ingrained deeper in the american mentality due to the high correlation of historical military occupation and asian prostitution. I blame 2 Live Crew. the only thing bad about them is the way that the media and stereotypes in America portray them as asexual or efeminine. There may be some truth to that but then you have guys like Chow Yun Fat and Jet Li who consistently portrayed as ass-kicking leading men who get the girl so I wouldn't say "never" DynamiteK 03-14-2006, 04:23 AM the only thing bad about them is the way that the media and stereotypes in America portray them as asexual or efeminine. There may be some truth to that but then you have guys like Chow Yun Fat and Jet Li who consistently portrayed as ass-kicking leading men who get the girl so I wouldn't say "never" but that just stems from movies made in asia, for asians. I'm only talking about in America. now jet and chow have made a few cross-over flicks in america since their asian movie have garnered a (formerly) cult following, but even still, 1. those movies are just extensions of the popularity of their movies in Asia, 2. they are targeted mainly toward men not women, and 3. the focus is on action. while action can be sexy, they are not directly portrayed as sexy. even doing action, they may still be seen as shy or disinterested in sex (jet) I'm just saying that as a general rule- Asian males are portrayed as not sexually desirable. A classic example of sexual stereotypes is Bruce Lee movies. He's always getting some ass in his chinese movies, but take the scene in his only American movie, Enter the Dragon. When Jim Kelly, John Saxon, and Bruce Lee are getting prostitutes: Stereotypes Galore: -Black dude - gets a ton of ladies. he's a sexual dynamo -White dude - gets only one lady, but she's the 'best' one. and because he's such a good guy, he's faithful to her -Asian dude - has no interest and essentially gets no ladies, he just picks one to help him do his work/complete his mission. |
