I have a very large beef with the Big Ten schedules and it has nothing to do with the Sparties or Wolverines. First off, we need a 12th team IMO. With that being said now there are 12 games on the schedule for football and they still have decided to leave out 2 teams each year and it is ludacris. I understand that small schools like Eastern and Central need to play teams like Michigan and Michigan State in order to generate revenue, but why is it not mandatory for all Big Ten teams to play each other and then have 2 non-conference games for a schedule of 12 games. Each team would get 1 home and 1 away non-conference along with 5 home and 5 away conference games. I feel that in the non-conference there should be some sort of cupcake game (i.e. MAC school) and each team should have to play a tough team from a big conference. I for one would be in favor of an ACC-Big Ten challenge similiar to basketball. Im not saying that it has to be the same conference every year or whatever, but I would love to see more Texas - Ohio $t. games. I think Notre Dame should have to join a conference and they should be part of this too. I would love to see Michigan play Florida St. to start next year and watch Ohio State and Miami battle in the shoe. I'd love to watch Michigan State battle Fat Phil (but then who would Michigan fans root for to lose.........lol). All I'm saying is that the NCAA needs to start making schedules and not the schools, they need to make teams play each other and get some extra excitement put in college football.

This is inspiring a new thread for me. The schedule thread can remain, because I'm sure there will be several people with thoughts on it, but you'll see a new thread quickly.

I would love to know what brilliant mind thought it was a good idea to add a game against Pittsburgh to State's schedule. Not only is it against Pitt, it's AT PITT! We already have to deal with ND in the nonconference.

We have a hard time keeping our heads above water in the BT let alone having 2 difficult non conference games.

What a joke. Michigan State Football is going to be stuck forever. I've been optimistic for 25 years of my life. I'm done with that.

John L. gave a little hope with a strong defensive recruiting class and then they have to deal with a very difficult schedule. I'm sorry, but I can't be optimistic anymore. I'll root for em and sweat my nuts off every game day. But, I"m going into this level headed. We're in trouble.

Pitt is not that great of a team. And we beat ND AT ND. And we have them at home this season.

The only thing I'm worried about is playing @ at the big house. I thought we could have beaten them this year, but we lost to UM @ home and only won one game since that loss after starting 4-0.

Michigan = 12-0

I'm not sure if that prediction is ballsy, ignorant, a little sarcastic or some combination of the three.

4 games worry me.
The first 3 that stand out are the obvious games, all on the road, against BCS teams from this past year. Two of them, ND and OSU, have had our number recently and just beat us in our yard this past year. It's hard for me to assume those will be wins until Carr and co. prove it.
The 4th game that worries me is one I can't pick out specifically, but it's there somewhere. Maybe it's Wisconsin, maybe Iowa, maybe Minnesota, maybe State, maybe Northwestern. (there's not a chance in hell Vandy, Central, Ball St. or Indiana beats us) But Michigan, recently, has a knack for losing one game each year that they're a pretty substantial favorite in. The preverbial let-down game. Last year most of these teams were within 3-4 points of us in the fianl score, with some beating us.

I'm not saying 12-0 is impossible. With this kind of talent it's almost always a possibility, especially if English's D can stop QB's like Quinn and T. Smith (and don't sleep on Anthony Morelli - he and Henne were often disputed as to who was the better QB in that class).

Here's the things I would look for this season to determine how likely 12-0 would be.
First, handle Vandy and Central. These games need to look a lot more like the Eastern game from last season and a lot less like the Northern Illinois game. Beat the piss out of these teams, get plenty of players in the game, get out of them with all the starters healthy.
Second, take down Notre Dame. That's obvious. In beating Notre Dame, I would like to see a decent margin of victory. I would rather the game be close early and Michigan runs away with it in the second half then to have Michigan jump out to a big lead early and let ND come back. That's just too much like last season in a lot of ways.
Next, avoid the letdown at home vs Wisconsin.

Bottom line, if Michigan is 4-0 and healthy after Wisconsin I would probably like the chances of 12-0. Until then, I have to doubt.

Pitt is not that great of a team.

Neither was Rutgers.

Michigan = 12-0
I guess everybody has a shot to go 12-0, but with the same conservative offense, I don't see it happening. Mario will emerge as a star, but Avant will be missed.

I'd hope for 10-2 and be very confident about that happening. Without 10-2 or better, Carr is gone. There will be alot of pressure in AA this year after last season. It'll be interesting to see how they handle it.

Hey I have to be optimistic dont I?

I really like ND game and the PSU game...the OSU game (of course) scares the shit out of me. The thing with Michigan is there is going to be that clanker game that no one can predict.

If they can go down to south bend and take care of the FIRST ROAD game on their schedule and on top of that beat a highly ranked ND team...that will set the tone for the season...kinda the same way ND did last year for them
