View Full Version : Waived Players micknugget 02-24-2006, 07:26 PM It looks like the Orlando Magic have waived Penny Hardaway and the Cavs have waived Lee Nailon. Kilo 02-25-2006, 01:16 PM Tim Thomas is working on a buyout and four teams have already indicated interest - Nets, Heat, Sixers and Spurs. That can't be good for business. I can't see him choosing Miami or Spurs because he'll be looking to earn his next contract. Sixers and Nets could offer him playing time at least. However stranger things have happened. Heat would have to cut Earl Barron, Mike Doleac or Jason Kapono though... DelfinoFan 02-25-2006, 01:53 PM Can penny even play anymore? Or is he one of those guys who should have retired years ago? I wonder if he would be better than Delk for the 10 mins or so off the bench. eh, probably not. Anthony 02-25-2006, 02:05 PM Welcome to the board. And to answer your question, he should have retired a long long time ago. I would not like to see him here. DelfinoFan 02-25-2006, 02:10 PM Thanks! it seems like a great site. DelfinoFan 02-25-2006, 02:11 PM oh and nice Delfino picture Anthony 02-25-2006, 02:14 PM Ha! Thanks. Check out the graphics forum. There is tones of stuff there. b-diddy 02-25-2006, 02:31 PM i think you need to watch blue chips again. sounds like delk is ours (via mlive) if he clears waivers. Kilo 02-25-2006, 03:17 PM Chicago is trying to buyout Tim Thomas, but doesn't want him to go to play-off rivals. Since he is being linked to New Jersey and especially Philly(for last play-off spot), they might keep him, unless they cane be assured that he won't sign there. Is there such thing as a conditional buyout?? FP22 02-26-2006, 12:29 AM What's up with Thomas? Is he hurt? If he's healthy I'd probably rather he stays off a competitor. You don't want him to all of a sudden "get it". As it is he's a 6-10 guy who can hit 40% from long distance. Miami seems like the place he'd end up. Black Dynamite 02-26-2006, 12:39 AM i say the bulls should set up a clause keeping him out the east. Kilo 03-01-2006, 01:18 PM Suns waived Jimmy Jackson. Did we sign Delk too soon?? I know he isn't a pointguard, but people believe we are still a man short at the 2/3. I wonder if this means PHX is clearing room to land Tim Thomas. I wonder where Jackson will end up - the usual suspects Miami, SA, Dallas, New Jersey... Black Dynamite 03-01-2006, 01:20 PM Suns waived Jimmy Jackson. Did we sign Delk too soon?? I know he isn't a pointguard, but people believe we are still a man short at the 2/3. I wonder if this means PHX is clearing room to land Tim Thomas. I wonder where Jackson will end up - the usual suspects Miami, SA, Dallas, New Jersey... how many teams has it been now for him? Kilo 03-01-2006, 01:29 PM Suns waived Jimmy Jackson. His next team will be his 12th. Yeah, he must have baggage/issues because he's put up the numbers... Fool 03-01-2006, 01:34 PM The only baggage I know of was when he was refused to show up to whoever Sacramento traded him to (I think it was Sacramento who traded him that time, might have been Houston) on the grounds that he was always played hard and was the good soldier but was tired of being traded and didn't want to go to a team with no chance to make the playoffs. Before that one rebellion (and since) I don't know of any incidences (not that I'm encyclopedic with this shit or anything). He's a solid role player with a contract that is usually pretty realistic. Just the piece to add to make the cap money on a trade work, or for a team to ask for in order to make their own cap clearing trade look less like a talent lose. I wouldn't mind him on the squad. Kilo 03-01-2006, 01:39 PM We don't have the roster spot for him, and even if we cut Acker to make room(which is very unlikely to happen), we still wouldn't have the post season roster spot for him unless Delfino, Evans or Cato were left off instead. I can't see him come here knowing the situation, when he could go to another contender and get PT and actually feel a aprt of their run. Fool 03-01-2006, 01:55 PM I would think he would be more useful then Cato (I'm not one who thinks he'll be of any use "if" he gets healthy) and wouldn't have a problem waiving him for Jackson. But all these March 1st waves are a 1% chance to effect anything at best. Glenn 03-01-2006, 04:21 PM Next up: Tim Thomas http://www.suntimes.com/output/bulls/cst-spt-bullnt012.html Bulls set to waive Thomas March 1, 2006 BY BRIAN HANLEY STAFF REPORTER Look for the Bulls to waive forward Tim Thomas today, allowing him to be added to another team's playoff roster by the league deadline. General manager John Paxson said Thursday that he would try to accommodate such a move but that his priority was to protect the Bulls' interests. The best guess is that Thomas, with whom the Bulls parted ways Nov. 28, will end up with the Phoenix Suns. The Bulls hoped to negotiate a buyout with Thomas, who was part of the preseason trade that sent Eddy Curry to the New York Knicks, to salvage some of the $5 million left on the $13.95 million salary his expiring contract called for this season. Kilo 03-01-2006, 04:32 PM PHX seems to be waiving Jackson to open space for Thomas, so I think TT to Phoenix is a done deal. East teams interested in TT might look at JJ, though some(read NJ) wanted TT for PF... FP22 03-01-2006, 04:49 PM Jon Barry has been waived by the Rockets. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/3693918.html H1Man 03-01-2006, 04:55 PM Jon Barry has been waived by the Rockets. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/3693918.html Too bad we don't have a roster spot for him. Glenn 03-01-2006, 04:55 PM Jon Barry has been waived by the Rockets. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/3693918.html :hyper: Bringing Jon back would have ruled, but I don't think it's in the cards. I wouldn't be surprised if he retired. I think this was going to be his last year anyways, he has said that he is sick of being away from his kids/wife. Kilo 03-01-2006, 05:14 PM Dumars fucked up by not understanding the friggin rules. Barry is going to end up in Miami as a 3rd pg and get their bench motivated. Sheed and Barry together would have been a laugh riot. SKelly 03-01-2006, 07:19 PM Barry's had a lot of injuries the last 2 seasons and hasn't been the same player. Besides, I don't see how he could play point guard, I don't remember him playing that position at all with us. Maybe he did, but I don't remember it. And if he did play point guard, imagine him trying to guard opposing point guards, yikes. Jim Jackson would be a nice pickup. But I don't think he'd come here because of lack of playing time. New Jersey seems like a good fit. The timing of Tim Thomas couldn't be better for Phoenix as Kurt Thomas recently went down with an injury. Brian Grant has been injured all year long and they've had to depend on Pat Burke. And yes, TT will be a 4/5 in that system. The only possible guy that might be waived that would make me regret the Delk signing is David Wesley. But I didn't think it was very possible that Houston waived him and now that they've waived Barry it's even less possible. Delk is a perfect fit, really. He gives us depth at the 1 and 2. He is a player in the mold of a Chauncey Billups that won't disrupt the flow of the game like Arroyo did if he happens to get playing time. He is a good defender too, unlike El Matador Arroyo. Kilo 03-01-2006, 07:31 PM Yeah, I didn't realize Barry was so injury prone lately. I only remember him as the leader of the Alternatorz I guess. He's probably finished, but he'd be a great attitude guy to add to our bench. He made coming off the bench cool and almost wore it as a badge of honor. It probably wouldn't have the same effect if he wasn't getting any PT though. I'm cool with Tony Delk. Wesley would have been a better fit, but like you said, he wasn't released. Houston fans believe that Barry was waived to create room to bring in JJ. There would be no reason to release Barry otherwise unless they were just doing him a favor and he just retires. Houston is a mover and shaker in the west, though might be too tough to eek in given their division. Go home with the girl you brought to the dance. SKelly 03-01-2006, 07:35 PM Yeah he is one of my favorite Pistons ever. But he wouldn't help us out now. OUGrizz11PG 03-01-2006, 07:37 PM Jimmy Jackson had refused to report to New Orleans, as traded there by Houston two years ago. He's already played for 75% of the teams he's been rumored to join now. That guy's career went into a tailspin quick -- talk about never living up to your potential. SKelly 03-01-2006, 07:45 PM Why does Miami's name get mentioned with EVERY SINGLE WAIVED PLAYER? I'm not talking about the people here, but the media. Whenever somebody is waived, Miami is interested. I didn't think it was possible to be interested in that many possibilities. I think the media is just throwing their name out there out of custom now. Kilo 03-01-2006, 07:49 PM Miami is(was) a title contender with depth holes to fill. They probably should drop Shandon Anderson and grab Jimmy Jackson if JJ was interested in Miami. However the trade for Derrick Anderson pretty much took care of any hole issues as he can play the one-guard, two-guard and three. H1Man 03-01-2006, 08:59 PM Nuggets waive Charles Smith The Denver Nuggets on Wednesday waived Charles Smith, one of three players acquired in a four-team, nine-player trade last week. Smith scored no points in 2 1/2 minutes Sunday against Milwaukee in his only game with the Nuggets. Smith, who previously played for Portland, has played in 22 games this season, averaging 3.6 points and less than a rebound. http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/5371846 SKelly 03-01-2006, 09:07 PM Throw Bryan Russell in there too. Glenn 03-02-2006, 08:37 AM http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/3695425.html Barry given chance to play elsewhere Released veteran may retire rather than join new team By JONATHAN FEIGEN Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle The Rockets handed out 8,000 game programs with Jon Barry on the cover Wednesday, the same day they handed Barry his release. With that confluence of events, the Rockets gave a clear picture of how valued Barry had been, and how small his role had become. One of the keys to last season's second-half turnaround, Barry was replaced in this season's rotation by rookie Luther Head and last month's acquisition of Keith Bogans. Barry was released Wednesday because to be eligible to be part of another team's playoff roster, players must be free agents by March 1. The Denver Nuggets, among other teams, have expressed interest in Barry, but Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said Barry was considering retirement. Barry declined to comment until he reaches a decision, which he hopes to do by Friday. "I talked to him about (how) we need to pick up a point guard, and also he had an opportunity out there to go and I think play for Denver," Van Gundy said. "I think he decided it was not something he was interested in doing. We told him we were going to waive him. "He decided I think to retire. I hope something works out to where he can stay in the Rockets' organization. He's a great guy. Even though we were only together for a little more than a year, I was as fond of him and Sura as any two guys I've ever coached. Personally, it hurts a lot that both had injuries that impacted them and us." Barry has played in seven games since Nov. 25, when he suffered his first injury this season, a sprained right foot. He did not play at all in the Rockets' past two games. The Rockets did not fill the vacant roster spot Wednesday, but the Seattle SuperSonics released Rick Brunson, who played for parts of three seasons for Van Gundy in New York. "He's a solid backup, a solid backup point guard," Van Gundy said. "He had a good year last year with the Clippers." Before the season, Van Gundy praised Brunson's work ethic to build a career out of Temple and the CBA. "He can be as proud of his career as some of the greatest players in this game," Van Gundy told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer before this season. Brunson, 32, has a torn fascia tissue in his foot and played only four games this season. In nine seasons, he has averaged 3.3 points and 2.7 rebounds. Van Gundy said he met with Barry on Tuesday evening and again on Wednesday before deciding to waive him. "Jon and I had a long conversation over a burger, the conversation came up because Denver had called inquiring," Van Gundy said. "I knew it was really a struggle for him not playing for us because he contributed so much to us last year, not only on the court but his whole spirit. ... Circumstances broke out health-wise and record-wise, when he came back we already set the path we were going. "He's had a remarkable career. I think he doubts health-wise whether he can still do it. He's not sure." |
