View Full Version : Most Depressing Songs
DrRay11 02-20-2006, 12:04 PM I just listened to Mad World by Gary Jules. A bit depressing. What songs have you heard that are the most sad or depressing?
Kenji by Fort Minor (a group I don't like) is not a great song, but has some depressing lyrics.
King Vlady 02-20-2006, 12:06 PM Everybody Hurts. R.E.M.
Sunday Bloody Sunday. U2
Glenn 02-20-2006, 12:13 PM "We Are The Champions"
(only right after you've lost game 7 of the Finals)
King Vlady 02-20-2006, 12:17 PM Gridiron Heroes
for obvious reasons.
Mikey 02-20-2006, 12:59 PM How to Disappear Completely by Radiohead
MoTown 02-20-2006, 02:33 PM Thriller by Michael Jackson...
...because it's sad that someone who made songs that great could turn into what he became.
Tiptoe through the Tulips.
The world will never recover from the loss of Tiny Tim.

Seriously though.
Amy Hit the Atmosphere - Counting Crows
"We've waited so long for someone to take us back home
It just takes so long
And meanwhile the days go drifting away
And some of us sink like a stone
Waiting for mothers to come"
Dreaming - Loudon Wainwright III
"I'd rather be dreaming than living
Living's just too hard to do
It's chances not choices, noises not voices
A day's just a thing to get through
Living's just too hard to do"
Unibomber 02-20-2006, 06:24 PM Kenji is good, but I can one-up it.
Goodbye My Lover by James Blunt. SO FUCKING DEPRESSING...
Black Dynamite 02-20-2006, 06:42 PM phyllis hyman-living all alone. (because she was serious about that shit to the point of suicide via pills)
Mr. Oobir 02-20-2006, 07:03 PM Here are a few classics in the field:
Alone Again, Naturally - Gilbert O'Sullivan
Looking back over the years
Whatever else that appears
I remember I cried when my father died
Never wishing to hide the tears
Gloomy Sunday - a lot of people
Gloomy is Sunday, with shadows I spend it all
My heart and I have decided to end it all
Soon there'll be candles and prayers that are sad I know
Let them not weep let them know that I'm glad to go
Strange Fruit - Billie Holliday
Southern trees bear a strange fruit
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root
Black bodies swinging in the Southern breeze
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees
MOLA1 02-20-2006, 07:48 PM "All That I Got Is You"
Ghostface feat. Mary J. Blige
[Mary J.]
All that I got is you
And I'm so thankful I made it through
[GFK]
Yo, dwellin in the past, flashbacks when I was young
Whoever thought that I'd have a baby girl and three sons
I'm goin through this difficult stage I find it hard to believe
Why my old Earth had so many seeds
But she's her own woman, and due to me I respect that
I saw life for what it's really worth and took a step back
Family ain't family no more, we used to play
Boiled eggs after school, eat grits cause we was poor
Grab the pliers for the channel, fix the hanger on the TV
Rockin each others pants to school wasn't easy
We survived winters, snotty nosed with no coats
We kept it real, but the older brother still had jokes
Sadly, daddy left me at the age of six
I didn't know nuttin but mommy neatly packed his shit
She cried, and grandma held the family down
I guess mommy wasn't strong enough, she just went down
Check it, fifteen of us in a three bedroom apartment
Roaches everywhere, cousins and aunts was there
Four in the bed, two at the foot, two at the head
I didn't like to sleep with Jon-Jon he peed the bed
Seven o'clock, pluckin roaches out the cereal box
Some shared the same spoon, watchin saturday cartoons
Sugar water was our thing, every meal was no thrill
In the summer, free lunch held us down like steel
And there was days I had to go to Tech's house with a note
Stating "Gloria can I borrow some food I'm dead broke"
So embarrasin I couldn't stand to knock on they door
My friends might be laughin, I spent stamps in stores
Mommy where's the toilet paper, use the newspaper
Look Ms. Rose gave us a couch, she's the neighbor
Things was deep, my whole youth was sharper than cleats
Two brothers with muscular dystrophy, it killed me
But I remember this, mom's would lick her finger tips
To wipe the cold out my eye before school wit her spit
Case worker had her runnin back to face to face
I caught a case, housin tried to throw us out of our place
Sometimes I look up at the stars and analyze the sky
And ask myself was I meant to be here... why?
Yeah, yo
[Chorus: Mary J. Blige]
All that I got is you
And I'm so thankful I made it through
Word up mommy, I love you
Word up
It was all you, word, you brought me in like this
[Verse Two: Mary J. Blige, Poppa Wu]
I sit and think about
All the times we did without, yeah
I always said I woudn't cry
When I saw tears in your eyes
I understand that daddy's not here now
But some way or somehow, I will always be around, yeah
All things that I did from this to that
Oh from drugs to being there
Being down and out and I love you always oh
[Poppa Wu]
Yeah, you see
You see the universe, which consists of the sun moon and stars
And them planets, that exist in my space
Like man woman and child
You understand?
We got to keep it real with reality and reality will keep it real with us
I remember them good ol days
Because see, that's the child I was
What made me the man I am today
See cause if you forget where you come from, heheh
You're never gonna make it where you're goin, aheh
Because you lost the reality of yourself
So take one stroll through your mind
And see what you will find
And you'll see a whole universe all over again
and again and again and again and again

I'm glad I read on because I was going to post the same thing. It makes me feel sorry for the dude. Goodbye my Lover might be the most depressing though. I must admit though, his music has kind of grown on me.
DennyMcLain 02-20-2006, 09:31 PM "One", by U2... reminds me of an old girlfriend.

Exactly. Not a single song about good things. And yet...it brings you back to Earth in a way.
Oh, and shut the fuck up, Denny. It's better in my corner.

Only if you count "chicks who use you for rides to the hair salon" as GFs.

Nutshell by Alice In Chains
giffman 02-22-2006, 04:18 PM Nothing is more depressing than the tragic loss of a lover:
Frogs - I'm Sad the Goat Just Died Today
I'm sad because my goat just died today
I'm sad my goat just fell in the hay, hey
We're all sad the goat just died today, well, well, well
We're sad enough to cry, cry-ay-ay-ay
Sad the goat just died tonight
We're sad, his funeral's gonna be out of sight
We're so sad, but in a way we're happy
He didn't suffer too much
He only got the cramps once
Sad, oh, the piece of poop wouldn't come out of his belly
Sad, we had to call Doc Nelly
We're sad
bigdt87 02-24-2006, 04:31 AM How to Disappear Completely by Radiohead
