Ok, I would rather the cursed Steve start this thread, but we can't wait for him. This game is two days away and we need to start talking about it.

So how will it go down?

Well, BOTH teams are struggling. Spartans have lost two in a row and Michigan mercifully got a home game against a horrible Minnesota squad to end their 3 game skid. Let's see where the advantages lie.

Home Court - State
Experience - State
Revenge - State
Health (read more below) - State
Coaching - State
Pure Talent - State
Something to Prove - Michigan, arguably

Obviously there are a lot of reasons why State should be a heavy favorite in this one. However, Michigan proved (even if you have to make the argument that the refs had maize and blue boxers on) that they can match up. However, it won't be the same two teams. Abram didn't play last time and still might not. Dion Harris couldn't hit a field goal last time (1-12) but played more tough minutes than anyone else and chipped in 7 points at the line. He might not go. Petway and Smith were limited in minutes and effectiveness. Both could miss the game or be tentative at best. THESE INJURIES CANNOT BE EXCUSES! But they must be looked at in previewing the contest. Without these players, it will require a ton of heart from Horton, which he has, and some resemblance of testicles from Sims, which he doesn't have, for Michigan to make a game of this. Coleman was the surprise last time and could be again. Graham Brown and Chris Hunter would have to combine for 20 points, 12 rebounds, 3 blocks and a hell of a lot of hustle. I think they can. It's just a matter of whether or not they can all do that in the same game. It's winnable, that's for sure. They need some players to be healthy though. If not for their statistical contribution, than perhaps just to give the 5 above a non-walk-on breather. State is much deeper and Izzo should certainly try to take advantage of that, keeping fresh legs on the floor and running as much as he can. But I'll let one of the Spartan fans chime in with their keys to the game.

It should be interesting. It's a Saturday game this time, SO I WILL NOT BE HERE THE NEXT MORNING. But I will be here Tuesday morning. Not waiting because I need to cool down, but because mid-week is my designated WTF time. To prove I can face the music, I'm opening myself to watch the game at Tre's house if he wants to go there. Obviously I won't pour salt in his wound if all the things I mentioned above as Michigan keys do happen, but I'll take whatever should come my way, whether it be "See what happens when the officiating is fair" or "13 of the last 15, bitch!". Whatever. I'm ready and I'll be wearing a shitload of maize and blue regardless of where I watch.

Man, I've felt like a balloon that has a leak the last week or so. My enthusiasm just keeps deflating. I was sooooo jacked after the last contest for a rematch. I was waiting for my opportunity to throw out the statements Jethro mentioned above (see what happens with normal refs, 13 of 15, etc.) and I couldn't wait.

But, now that the BT race is pretty much out of the question...I feel like a Notre Dame football fan. A bunch of tough regular season games that will not lead to any sort of Championship.

Regardless, this is Michigan State vs. Michigan. And I still want revenge. I want the taste of victory to last all off season. I was prepared to predict a 15-20 point win. But, my one concern is confidence. MSU's confidence has to be seriously shaken right now. They need a good start. I think the crowd might help get them jacked up.

Michigan State will win. I don't know by how much. If I was forced to make a prediction, I'd stick with a 15 point win. IF State comes out of the gate strong, 20-25 pt win. I think the first 10 minutes of the first meeting showed us the difference between the two teams. I'm not whining, I'm just saying that when the game was flowing without interruption, State was rollin'. That's what I see happening on Saturday.

But, if Michigan fans need some hope. They can look to the confidence issue. There is no better time to face an opponent than to face him when he's on the ropes mentally.

I'm ready for revenge! [smilie=ownagebox.g:
Go State!

Dion and Smith should be playing.

If they both play at 90%, I think Michigan can keep it to less than a 15 point loss.

UM is not playing very good D right now and I have no doubt that Sims will throw up another 2-4 point night, as he is so capable of doing.

BTW I want UM to win and i will root all the way for them, but I am being realistic when I think MSU beats UM by 12 76-64.

I don't have high expectations for this game at all. Hearing that Dion and Jerret should play makes me feel a bit better though. By the way, WTF did Lester do to his ankle? Did he sprain it during the Minnesota game? Or did Tom Izzo hire Tonya Harding and crew for Episode II? Geez.

Going to watch the game in East Lansing. Hopefully the Brez but not likely. A more active role is needed for myself and I'm gonna try and do my part. Gut check time for State. Halftime boys and girls.

How is it that U of M came out more fired up than MSU? They built a 7 point lead before MSU came storming back for an 11 point lead at the half.

Things are getting pretty heated out there too. Lots of physical play. Petway is a effing thug out there. Did anyone else catch when the ball bounced off his head? That was classic,

Also, that reverse dunk by Brown was simply classic. [smilie=2thumbsup.g:

MSU's loss a few weeks back was unexpected, heart wrenching and controversial.

Totally different situations.

A dominate second half performance from MSU. U of M ran out of gas and was clearly undermanned in this game. Brown played him one hell of a game. He has at least 5 Sportscenter Top 10 plays. I was very impressed wtih Neitzels offense and his passing. Ager and Davis did what they needed to do and the bench helped a lot more.

MSU still needs to prove it can win away from the Breslin Center. I dont think they will win the Big Ten but they do have a chance at the BTT and I still believe we are an Elite 8 team.

Like Tre, I'm only on for a couple minutes tops right now.

But I felt like I had to show up. I don't have much to say right now, I'll rant a bit on Tuesday.

But my one and only take right now:

I never considered Shannon Brown to be much of a player. I thought his stats were a bit inflated and he was a second hand player. I was wrong as hell. He was head and shoulders above (literally AND figuratively) anyone else on the floor today. Zero competition for best player out there. Some other Spartans had some nice stats, but they wouldn't have been there had Brown not carried the team through. Amazing performance. I still hate him, but I respect his game now.

By the way, there were several people in the game that are morons. The drunk fan, Amadou Ba, Brent Petway (list him 5 times at least), Marquis Gray, and every idiot fan that was behind Majerus when they showed him. Some of the dumbest ass fans I've ever seen. (I had to rip State somehow at least once between now and Tuesday, didn't I?).

Huge win for State. Congrats.

If Brown returns my confidence in MSU next year is greatly increased, with Nietzel's improving O, Brown playing out of his mind, and Gray and Rowley starting to show flashes.

Drew/Walton
Brown/MoJo
Morgan/Dahlman
Gray/Rowley
Naymick/Suton/Herzog

That looks very promising to me.

I dont know exactly how anyone can call this a "huge win." We were supposed to dominate and we did. I consider it a big win as far as staying in the title hunt. As far as a program standpoint, it was a good win but I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone who would think that if MSU had lost our program would be in the toilet.

Yeah, i agree about that dumbass fan though. what a moron and that douchebag should never be allowed back in.

Things being as they are between UM and MSU, UM can't hold State's jock right now. I've never had a problem giving State it's due, and after that performance, it is definitely due. Okay, here is my take on the game.

Michigan State played great. If Ager is playing well, this team is completely different and very tough. MSU's offense in the half court set was MUCH better. Izzo's use of the short corner against the zone was terrific and it opened tons of passing lanes. How about Delco Rowley contributing? He played well. I give Izzo credit for giving him a chance. I wouldn't have had the balls to put him in there. Neitzel was great. 10-1 assist to turnover ratio? Wow! Can you imagine this kid when he's a senior?

SHANNON BROWN! SHANNON BROWN! If he returns next year, we go from rebuilding year to BT Championship year.

Michigan's post players were tough inside. I was surprised they didn't tank it earlier than they did. They kept it close for most of the game despite State playing well. I was impressed. Especially with Brown who did more than I thought he was capable of.

Petway is a bitch. I thought so after his cheap shot on Ager last game. I can't stand the guy now. I cracked up laughing when he missed dunks and when the ball hit off his head and went out of bounds. And next time he wants to get chippy with somebody, he better stick to a guy like Ager because Quis and Trannon would drop his ass quick. [smilie=applause.gi:

The chants also cracked me up. NIT NIT, loved it! [smilie=applause.gi: Hooked on Phonics for Petway, loved it!

Great signs: "Petway is a talentless thug." "Maize and Who?"

I share all the same feelings on the pregame situation. Both the fan and the player were idiots.

I dont know exactly how anyone can call this a "huge win." We were supposed to dominate and we did.

I think it was a big win because it got us out of the funk we were in. We had a losing streak starting, we were playing bad, and the BT title hopes were drifting away.

After the great performance, all of a sudden it looks like the Spartans are now overflowing with confidence, they ended the losing streak, and they are now one game out of 1st place when everyone (including me) thought they didn't have a chance.

"Huge win?" No, but a very good one. Probably just needed a better choice of words.

Are you really that fucking stupid? What do you want me to say more than I already have? Am I upset that UM lost to MSU at MSU? Hardly. I was much more upset with the OSU and Purdue loss. Now had Michigan not been down 4 men for the most part, I would have been really pissed had they lost by that many, but seriously they played hard and that is all I asked of them.

I think what you really wanted was for us to come on here and while about the injuries, as the Spartan people did about the fouls, shrug. Get over yourself.

As I stated lets play the game on a neutral floor with no injuries on both sides to see how the game unfolds and then there can be serious smack talking, until then it is 1-1 this year.

Again MSU played a great game and UM played hard being down so many men in this game. At least they didnt mail it in like against Purdue.

Harris and Smith both said they were 90% days before the game. At this point in the season half of everyone's roster is playing at 90%.

[smilie=arrgh.jpg] Wow. It's at this point that I wish the government would screen individuals on whether or not they should be allowed to reproduce. I know we all bash each other here over MSU-UM stuff, but I thought in the end that everybody was cool for the most part and we had some good guys here on WTF.

1. I expect you to hate me, good, I am doing my job as a fan of UM.

2. Fuck off. Die. Commit suicide. Suck on a she male's dick.

1. If you think that's your job as a Michigan fan I feel sorry for you.

2. If internet bashing over MSU / Michigan games drives you to make such statements you may want to re-evaluate whether posting in sports forums is necessary. If you think words of this nature are exceptable I'm embarrassed for you.

It's just a game. Take it easy bud.

By the way, while this is a bit off the original topic, it's been brought up here so I'll make a statement.

MSU absolutely positively 100% offered Grady. The thing is, they offered him for football, not basketball. So you're all right. Now move on.

I have a lot to say about this game, but I'm feeling calm right now so I think I'll wait. Maybe after I reply to a few other threads I'll be ready, maybe not.

There are some serious joke comments made in this and other threads though. State fans thinking all is well and they're heading back to the Final Four this year and next. You have to be kidding.

And the reason this is a huge win to me is because it would have been a huge loss. Every State fan knows they were a little worried early when Michigan had the lead and Ager had 2 fouls. But then Izzo went off (in any other arena he would have gotten a technical) but the refs promptly made several weak make-up calls and suddenly State was on a roll and you all started breathing again. Right then and there you knew this game was huge.

By the way, there isn't a chance in hell you win a Big Ten championship this year. I know technically you're still in it, but it would take the world falling apart for you to win - but at least then we wouldn't have to hear any more "backing in and getting help" comments, would we?

Wow, bold statments by Jethro. No chance to go back to the Final Four huh? Tom Izzo holds the best NCAA Tournament winning percentage in the entire country and he's taken us to the Final Four 4 times in the last 7 years. No chance? We always have a chance. I wouldn't be so bold if I was you.

Secondly, you are not talking officiating are you? You claimed a 24 free throw edge had nothing to do with the outcome of the first game, I hope you aren't claiming that a two minute segment in the first half impacted the outcome. Just to show I'm not as ignorant as the Michigan fans that ignored the officiating in the first game, the officials weren't good in this one. I thought there were about 5 bad calls against Michigan and 2-3 bad calls against State.

Lastly, we don't have a chance in hell to win the BT? Are you serious?! If MSU wins it's last 4 (3 at home) and Iowa loses just one, we are Big Ten Champions. According to you, the world is falling apart if this happens? Whoa. I don't think you are aware of the standings or you wouldn't have posted that. If MSU's last game is for the BT Championship and they lose, but still win the BT....I will gladly admit we backed in. That is exactly what happened to Michigan in football. But, if we beat Michigan, Indiana, Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Illinois to finish the season- We earned that Championship. I'll take a share, whatever. With this conference, a share would be a great accomplishment.

Go State!

I'm the one that doesn't know the standings? Are you forgetting that Iowa isn't the only team with 4 losses? No, of course you aren't, because you're taking into account the fact that the other 3 would all have one more loss if you run the table. But do you really think it's realistic to expect that you'll run the table against those three teams that are all better than you in conference play, meanwhile hoping for a loss by Iowa?

What part of we play OSU, Illinois and Wisconsin AT HOME don't you get?

What is MSU's record at the Breslin this year? How many games have they lost at home? Hell what's the combined 'home record" of ALL of the teams in the Big Ten this year? Pretty damn good huh?

If we're talking about reality, it's extremely realistic that MSU beats those three teams -and- Iowa loses AT Illinois.

We'll see. If you pull it off, go ahead and laugh in my face. I say you don't and by no stretch do I feel like I'm going out on a limb. I think the chances of it happening are so slim that I'll hardly enjoy saying "I told you so."

The big ten is too wide open to predict a BT champ. We better start winning or else we won't get a bye. I think the only team that will be tough to beat is Illinois. I would say us but we crack big time under presure. Sure Illinois has been upset but what are the chances of having that happen again. Besides they have expierence.

I don't know the standings? Tell me what part of my explanation was incorrect? We play all those teams with 4 losses Sherlock. And yes, it is very realistic to believe you'll win them when you haven't lost a game at home. Am I saying it will happen for sure? No. Very possible, YES!

Better than us in conference play? Do you think the fact that we had to play all those teams coming up on the road the first time has anything to do with the standings?

I'm loving this talk from Jethro though. We've got MONSTER trash talk ammo if MSU pulls out a title or goes to the Final Four...AGAIN.

I'm just saying that the list of teams you've played at home so far is hardly impressive compared to the list of teams you have left. So the hype of being undefeated at home is a bit inflated.

It's not often I get to brag about being right so soon afterward. And sure, the, uh, world could fall apart and you could still win - but your record in conference is the same as ours now (assuming you make up that one up we have in the W column). So I just had to post the quotes and now I'll move on. Props to Tre for manning up in the MSU hoops thread. Wonder if Filly will just overlook that.

I gotta admit, the better team won that day.
