Glenn 02-16-2006, 08:13 AM Even if he is out for the year, there should be teams willing to acquire his expiring contract. Hermy 02-16-2006, 08:35 AM Is their any benefit to waiving Cato? Someone's gotta be dumb enough to bite. That's the plus side of having a expiring contract. The one team i didn't list that's definitely a possibility is Portland. They are swamped with point guards and don't have any bigs at all. I'd really like the clippers trade though, They'd do it to make room for livingston and get a pick for Cassell before he leaves. It would also get Zelly off the books for them. Unless they still actually think they're going to do something this year, they'd be foolish not to. Glenn 02-16-2006, 09:32 AM Cato and the ORL future 1st for Al Harrington & Tony Delk Atlanta's going nowhere this year, so this is just a swap of 3 expiring deals, with the pick thrown in to compensate ATL for Harrington's Bird rights. After we win the title, we can try to find a way to re-sign Al, or we can S&T him for our next backup PG for 2007. Cato and Minny 2nd for Desmond Mason & Rasual Butler Mason can cover the PG spot in a pinch, and at 6'7, Butler is capable of handling some of the bigger SFs that Delfino or Evans can't. Butler's game would fit ours well, and hopefully Mason's slashing would get things moving towards the basket more. If this deal was made, most likely Evans would have to go someplace else in another deal. Cato for Jamal Crawford Unlikely, but interesting to think about. Cato for Kurt Thomas and Leandro Barbosa A pick could be added to make this work. Dale Davis would likely have to be moved in another deal. PHX has been looking for salary relief for a long time. Cato for Ruben Patterson and Juan Dixon This one actually makes some sense, IMO. Cato for Mike James and Eric Williams This one has been mentioned here before Cato and ORL future 1st for Deron Williams and Matt Harpring I'm liking this one, too Cato and Minny 2nd for Antonio Daniels and Jared Jefferies That's it for me. Glenn 02-16-2006, 09:34 AM Koolaid, we can't package Cato with another player in a trade, he has to go by himself or with pick(s) and/or cash (up to $3million, I believe). Koolaid 02-16-2006, 09:38 AM Koolaid, we can't package Cato with another player in a trade, he has to go by himself or with pick(s) and/or cash (up to $3million, I believe). eh, doesn't really matter. Adding acker didn't do anything salary wise. IT was just to make the rosters fit. They could just waive somebody or sign a free agent for all the crap i said instead. giffman 02-16-2006, 09:54 AM Pistons reportedly hoping to trade Cato for Claxton, Lue, or Knight http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060216/SPORTS0102/602160362/1004/SPORTS [smilie=spam.gif] No need for the Spam-Slam, MOLA. From the article: "The Pistons, though, are expected to make a run at veterans Speedy Claxton (New Orleans), Tyronn Lue (Atlanta) and Brevin Knight (Charlotte). Claxton and Lue are in the final years of their contracts and make $3.6 million. Knight makes $4.6 this season and $4.4 in 2006-2007. Trading Cato for any of those players would still leave the Pistons deep enough under the luxury tax threshold to re-sign Wallace and Billups." MOLA1 02-16-2006, 10:11 AM I laughed. Kilo 02-16-2006, 11:17 AM I was a proponent of Ruben Patterson, however isn't he the guy Rasheed punched while they were teammates in Portland?? Dixon would the the scoring point guard, but I don't think he ever actually passes. WTFchris 02-16-2006, 11:27 AM I was a proponent of Ruben Patterson, however isn't he the guy Rasheed punched while they were teammates in Portland?? Dixon would the the scoring point guard, but I don't think he ever actually passes. Ruben is an expiring, so he's no risk. If he disrupts the lockeroom, you just cut him. metr0man 02-16-2006, 11:41 AM isn't Lue injured? I like the idea of Speedy CLaxton or Brevin Knight. Joe Asberry 02-16-2006, 01:05 PM its just cato and a pick we can offer....Claxton is NOH 3rd best player and they actually compete for a playoff spot, i dont think he's available...i want Knight!, and he should be available for cato and a pick ! Joe lets do this ! we dont need a SF... Kilo 02-16-2006, 01:13 PM I vote keep Cato!! He's a pretty big dude and can play pretty well when healthy. Besides if we ever brawl anybody, we'll maul - Sheed, Ben, Davis, Maxiell, Cato and a PO'd McDyess could do a helluva lot of damage. SDPistonfan 02-16-2006, 08:19 PM Sorry if Im bursting anyone's bubble here, but we got Cato for his expiring contract to avoid the LT. I doubt wed end up using him to pick up salary after that. I dont see how we could trade Cato alone and get much value without taking on salary, so this topic is most likely moot. |
