View Full Version : Chris Wilcox traded for Vladimir Radmanovic
H1Man 02-14-2006, 06:22 PM SuperSonics send Radmanovic to Clippers for Wilcox[smilie=reporter.gi:
The Seattle SuperSonics traded forward Vladimir Radmanovic to the Los Angeles Clippers for Chris Wilcox on Tuesday.
Radmanovic, who will be a free agent after the season, has struggled for the past month despite being put in the starting lineup after new coach Bob Hill took over on Jan. 3. Since Jan. 11, Radmanovic has scored in double figures only four times in 13 games, and recently was benched in favor of forward Nick Collison.
Radmanovic, who turned down a $42 million, six-year deal with the Sonics before the season and signed a one-year tender instead, is averaging 9.3 points - down from the 11.8 he averaged last season. Because he signed a one-year tender, Radmanovic had the right to block the trade.
Wilcox's production also has dwindled, even with the Clippers challenging for the Pacific Division lead. The 6-foot-10 forward is playing only 13 minutes per game and averaging 4.5 points. Last season, Wilcox averaged 7.9 points and 4.2 rebounds in 54 games.

Me thinks the Fortson/Evans deal to NYK will be announced shortly. I thought Wilcox would eventually end up in New Jersey, so Seattle is cool by me.
H1Man 02-14-2006, 06:26 PM I still can't believe that this guy (Radmanovic) turned down a 42 million dollar contract during the offseason.

Yeah. Unbelievable.
I still can't believe that this guy (Radmanovic) turned down a 42 million dollar contract during the offseason.
He trusted in his abilities, gambled on injury and didn't like Seattle. If he was worth $42M last season, he figured he be worth the same this season only as an unrestricted free-agent.

Problem is, by agreeing to this trade he will lose his Bird Rights and will have to settle for a MLE contract unless he signs with a team well under the cap. So in retrospect, he should've taken that contract.
I like this deal for the clips.
I would try to deal Maggette to get depth if I was Baylor but otherwise you have to say the Clips are really legit.

That's true. The system is, you take your big contract, then half way through the year, demand a trade. You don't turn down contracts like that no matter what team is offering it to you.
Who is going to offer him more than the MLE now? I wouldn't give him more than $3 million in his first year.
If he does have a good ending in Clipperland, they will have $8-$9 million in cap room. But, that's without a new contract for Cassell. We'll see how that goes. I'm sure Cassell will want something crazy like he did in Minnesota and the Clippers probably won't be willing. Livingston is their future too. Damn kid can't stay healthy though. Or is Cassell done?
This trade is interesting for LA. I'm curious to see how many minutes he gets at the 3, that's where they need their help.

i dont think magette is getting traded this year. it may be a blessing in disguise if he can fit into the offense when he gets back. though im not sold on that happening for sure.
Cross 02-15-2006, 03:49 AM I agree with JS.
Wilcox wasn't going to play with the Clippers anyways so they got themselves a 3point threat.
Glenn 02-15-2006, 07:52 AM H1, you have to look for it, but the Reporter Emoticon is there.
Pharaoh 02-15-2006, 11:17 AM Clippers hedge their best for the off-season.
They knew they didn't want Wilcox around after the season so they went and got a guy they might like to keep.
They'll have the option of keeping Cassell and Radmanovic if they want to, though Cassell counts on their cap at 150% of his previous salary so that eats some of their cap space.
I expect Atlanta (if they lose Harrington) and Chicago to make a run at Radmanovic this off-season, but does he want to play for those teams?
And what becomes of the Clippers Chris Kaman if Radmanovic and Cassell re-sign this off-season.
I doubt The Don is suddenly gonna spend wildly.
(scattered post cause I don't really care)
