I'm 5'11" so whenever i go up for a board it's typically snatched from over my head by someone taller than me. I know that It's much easier to get a rebound when you don't even have to time your jump. However, I'm yet to play a game with anyone that was completely able to stop me from getting boards. I can still get it playing against people a foot taller then me, and i don't jump that high either.
Which brings me to my point, Being tall isn't really all that helpful with getting boards. I'm so sick of people talking about guys over 7 feet as if they are supposed to be snatching 20 boards a game. That will never happen. Why? Because it's about being wide and quick, that's how you really get rebounds. Most of those tall dudes are lengthy twigs that can be moved out the box from the get go. You need meat on your bones to snatch a board. Yet I still see dudes bullshitting themselves about Yao, Shawn Bradley, ETC.
The thing is it's somehow become such a common viewpoint that someone that's tall is automaticly blessed with rebounding skills that I feel alone on this subject. I can't be the only motherfucker in the world with some sense left.

I wouldn't say that size has no effect on rebounding but i do think being stong and getting got positioning is the most important part. I'm 5'4" and I could still get a fair share of rebounds out there. But someone that is 7' tall does have certain advantages they usually play close to the basket and they are closer to the height of the rim so they get closer to the missed shots right after they hit.

That's another thing. Being tall doesn't guarentee you a spot down low.
I don't care how tall you are, I'm not going to let you go in the paint with ease. Even to get in by the basket you gotta have speed and strength.
obviously, there are more factors than height when determining a great rebounder. Charles Barkley was one of the best rebounders of all time and was like 6'6".

He was always listed at 6'8" or 6'9" and everyone knew he was much closer to 6'5" or 6'6".

An example of someone being tall and not being able to rebound for shit back in his Pistons days was Mikki Moore. He never timed a jump correct.

He's too skinny to get position. even the timing of the jump isn't THAT important because honestly if you get in for rebound untouched to the point where you can jump as high as you can to snatch the ball without getting undercut or held than you pretty much already had the rebound before you even jumped.
It comes down to a certain knack for rebounding and a whole lotta desire. He who wants it more will usually get it.

I'm a 4 foot 6 213 lb power forward in my league and I get 25 rpg (This is against big black guys too).

If height mattered, Yao should be grabbing 20 a game. A guy who is 7'0 may not be determined to get a rebound so you never know.
I know this guy, he is only 5'9 ish. He has long ass arms, so I guess that helps

Rodman got the rebounds because he knew how to read the ball in the air, and box out accordingly. Barkley, too.
Oscar Roberston once averaged a triple double...in a season!
It's about position and anticipation, as well as speed and power. Tall players have a higher center of gravity. Therefore they cannot play for position as well as a smaller, more powerful post player.
