View Full Version : You're the GM
Pharaoh 02-04-2006, 12:27 PM of the Toronto Raptors.
I'm stealing an idea JS mentioned a little while ago and thought now was a good time to do it because of the AD trade.
The Raptors Salary Situation:
Assuming Eric Williams is gone either via trade or by opting out
Assuming the cap is $52,000,000
Alvin Williams $6,800,000*
Morris Peterson $4,550,000
Flexo Mourning $4,000,000
Chris Bosh $4,235,220
Charlie Villaneuva $2,537,880
Rafael Araujo $2,395,200
Jose Calderon $2,160,000
Matt Bonner $2,000,000
Joey Graham $1,492,440
Pape Sow $700,000 (approx)
2006 Top 5 pick $2,372,800 (approx)
Mike James counts against your cap for 150% of his last salary unless you renounce him.
You can either keep him on the books for $5,580,000 (and go over the cap to re-sign him) or dump him for more cap space.
Your second round picks DO NOT count against the cap until they are signed and you won't sign them until you get your free agents out of the way.
Total Payroll: $38,873,540 (with James on the books)
Cap Space: $13,126,460
Total Payroll: $33,293, 540 (without James)
Cap Space: $18,706,460
* If you want to retire Alvin Williams you can. It opens up even more cap space. Medical retirements are cool
Your mission?
Select the #3 pick in the Draft (and name who went #1 and #2)
Sign whatever free agents you want or make whatever trades you want
You can even fire the Coach and bring in someone decent lol
It's all up to you.
Artis Gilmore 02-04-2006, 12:54 PM Trade Alvin Willams to Spurs for 2nd round pick.
#3 pick in the Draft would be SG JJ Redick from Duke. (#1 SF Rudy Gay from Uconn to the Charlotte Bobcats. #2 F Adam Morrison from Gonzaga to Chicago Via New York)
Pick number 33 I select SF Louis Amundson from UNLV
Pick number 59 via Spurs I select PG Gerry McNamara from Syracuse.
Signs all 3 draft picks to rookie contract
Fires Sam Mitchel Hires Paul Silas.
Dumps Mike James.
Signs PG Speedy Claxton to 2 year 4.5 million dollar deal.
Trades PF Matt Bonner, PF Pape Sow and 1st round pick(1st pick protected) to Denver for Nene who was signed by Denver 4 years 16 million Dollars a year.
Resigns PF Antonio Davis to qualifying offer.
Starting lineup:
Calderon
Redick
Mo Pete
Bosh
Arujo
Bench:
Claxton
NeNe
Villanueva
Davis
Ghram
Amundson
McNamara
Ok, I dont know where I'm at in cap space so Pharoah or JS can help me I'd be glad.
Pharaoh 02-04-2006, 01:16 PM What did you pay Davis? He doesn't have a qualifying offer because he's not coming off a rookie contract.
What salary did you give Claxton to start? $2,000,000?
Did Nene sign for $4,000,000 per?
And does San Antonio have a $6,000,000 trade exception? If the Spurs traded for Alvin then Toronto has to get back something worth almost $6,000,000 unless the Spurs have cap space or a trade exception.
I like that you hired Silas though - he's got a decent rep for working with young guys and improving big men.
And good thinking about a sign and trade for Nene. Giving up the pick would be tough but losing Sow and Bonner was a great move.
Am I hired in the off-season or effective immediately???
Pharaoh 02-04-2006, 03:22 PM Off-season and Eric Williams is gone.
You got nothing for him because the previous GM sucked.
detroitsportscity 02-04-2006, 04:50 PM Hire Rudy T to be the new coach.
Trade back with the Blazers 2 picks(5ish, 30, and a 2nd).
Trade Calderon and Pape Sow for Salim Stoudamire.
Draft Darius Washington Jr. PG Memphis at 5 or 6, and Marco Killingsworth at 30. Taquan Dean SG Louisville, Mike Gansey SG West Virginia, and JP Batista in the 2nd.
In FA get Joel Pryzibilla(start 6.5, 4 years), Marcus Banks (3 start for 3), and sign Nazr Mohammed for about the MLE.
Lineup:
Washington/Banks/Stoudamire
MoPete/Dean/Gansey
Villenueva/Graham
Bosh/Killingsworth
Pryzbilla/Mohammed/Araujo
Maintain decent cap room to go after anybody interesting(say MoPete and James S+T for Mike Miller and a future 1st).
Off-season and Eric Williams is gone.
You got nothing for him because the previous GM sucked.
Boo.
I would have traded Morris Peterson, Mike James, Loren Woods and a protected first rounder for Darko Milicic, Carlos Arroyo and Mo Evans.
I would then trade the 3rd overall pick and Carlos Arroyo to Atlanta for Josh Childress and the 5th overall pick and use it to draft Tiago Splitter(Morrison goes first to Charlotte, Bargnani goes second to Houston, Atlanta takes Aldridge, 4th goes to Minnesota* and they take Rudy Gay.
(*Minnesota acquired the pick from Chicago in the Kevin Garnett deal). Atlanta does this because they need a point guard and desperately need size and Alderage is a true center. With the possibility that Minnesota takes the remaining center Atlanta doesn't want to miss out and have only SG/SF's on the board when they pick again. Childress isn't needed when they have Johnson, Williams, Smith, to play the 2/3.
I'd then sign Speedy Claxton in the off-season to a 3yr $9M contract.
Roster -
pg-Claxton|Calderon|Ukic
sg-Childress|Evans
sf-Graham|Villanueva
ce-Milicic|Splitter
pf-Bosh|Villanueva
Stockpile bigs and save money for the 2007 off-season. Our frontline would be solid, Claxton would be a good back-up should you sign a PG in 2007(TJ Ford, Luke Ridnour,Kirk Hinrich, Leandrino Barbosa). Childress could break-out in Toronto.
Since I have to take over after the season, I ain't playing.
Pharaoh 02-05-2006, 12:50 AM Well it doesn't look like anyone is playing.
Fuck all y'all
Cross 02-05-2006, 03:06 AM I will get to this after i get some shit off my hands
Pharaoh 02-05-2006, 03:43 AM You've got shit on your hands?
Don't they have toilet paper in Korea?
Cross 02-05-2006, 03:47 AM [smilie=anxious.gif]
I got a paper to write and I forgot about it...
Back to the thread, does Alvin williams salary count against us?
Pharaoh 02-05-2006, 04:04 AM That's up to you.
Personally I'd retire his ass and have the cap room.
I'd also renounce Mike James and that would give me approx $24 million in cap space.
After signing a decent C and a player for the bench I'd then re-sign Mike James.
I'm certain I'd have enough cap space to do all that.
Hell, I'd probably have enough to bring Roko-Leni Ukic over and make it worth his while to buy out his Euro contract.
Cross 02-05-2006, 04:30 AM Ok so im going to make a trade dealing with Mike James. As he's a FA, im going to resign him.
I trade him as well as Araujo for Jeff Foster and Anthony Johnson. Jonhson is the opposite of an upgrade but Foster brings the size. Because the whole Indy team can't stay healthy, they are going to count on Mike James. After, they trade Jose Calderon and Matt Boner for Josh Smith and Tony Delk. Raptors cut Delk. That leaves the Raptors with alot of money. Wait this is the off-season? Fuck Delk signed with the Hawks for the minimum resulting in a sign and trade. He gets cut. With the #3 pick, the team takes a huge risk and take Rondo the point guard out of Kenutcky. Holy shit WTF am i thinking?
They go and sign Matt Harping for 2 year 9.25 million.
Starting lineup.
PG: Calderon
Sg: Mo pete
SF: Harpring
PF: Bosh
C: Foster
Bench:
Fuck them
GM:
Fired, shit i would love to do this if it wasnt the shitty Raptors who have no talent
MOLA1 02-05-2006, 04:39 AM You're the GM of the Toronto Raptors.
Fuck you!
Pharaoh 02-05-2006, 07:11 AM LOL@M1 and Cross.
I'm gonna have to do this properly and show all y'all why John Hammond might be willing to take their GM job.
Pharaoh 02-05-2006, 07:44 AM So I retire Alvin Williams
I renounce all free agents including Mike James.
My salary situation:
Morris Peterson $4,550,000
Flexo Mourning $4,000,000
Chris Bosh $4,235,220
Charlie Villaneuva $2,537,880
Rafael Araujo $2,395,200
Jose Calderon $2,160,000
Matt Bonner $2,000,000
Joey Graham $1,492,440
Pape Sow $700,000 (approx)
2006 Top 5 pick $2,372,800 (approx)
Total Payroll: $26,493,540
Cap Space: $25,506,460
#3 Pick in the Draft? Rudy Gay (#1: Aldridge. #2: Morrison)
#33: James Augustine PF
#56: Pops Mensah-Bonsu PF/C
Free Agency:
Sign and Trade with Denver:
Morris Peterson and 2007 First Round Pick for Nene, signed to a 5-year contract starting at $6,000,000
Basically I only spend $1,450,000 of my cap space because I moved Peterson.
Remaining Cap Space: $24,056,460
Sign Fred Jones to a 5-year contract starting at $6,000,000. Slightly overpay in order to get him away from the Pacers. He'll start at SG for me.
Remaining Cap Space: $18,056,460
Sign Mike James to a 5-year deal starting at $5,500,000.
Remaining Cap Space: $12,556,460
Sign Ronald Dupree to a 2-year minimum contract.
I'll save the remaining cap space for 2007.
C: Nene
F: Chris Bosh
F: Rudy Gay
G: Fred Jones
G: Mike James
Bench:
Charlie Villanueva F
Joey Graham F/G
Jose Calderon G
Rafael Araujo C
Matt Bonner F
Ronald Dupree G/F
Pape Sow F/C
James Augustine F/C
Pops Mensah-Bonsu F/C
In 2007 Bonner, Araujo and Sow would come off the books, along with Flexo's buy out.
Pharaoh 02-05-2006, 08:00 AM 2007 Salary Situation:
Bosh counts at 300% of his last salary: $12,705,660
Mike James would count for approx $6,000,000
Fred Jones would count for approx $6,500,000
Nene would count for approx $7,000,000
Rudy Gay would count for approx $3,749,040
Charlie V: $2,715,000
Joey G: $1,596,600
Jose: $2,600,000
Dupree: $900,000
Augustine: $700,000
Pops Bonsu: $700,000
Since I gave Denver my 2007 first rounder I'd only have second round picks.
Total Salary: $45,166,300
Assuming the cap is $55,000,000 the Raptors have almost $10,000,000 to spend in a much better free agent class.
I'd probably spend just over the MLE (approx $6,000,000) on a free agent and then sign Roko-Leni Ukic and their other Euro (Slokar or whatever his name is)
Looking at that team I'm guessing the free agent signed would be a SG.
But if they can't find a free agent I'm sure Ukic could step in and play. Apparently he's pretty good and by that stage Graham and Jose should be capable as well.
Who would have thought that 1 trade could make such a big difference?
Cross 02-05-2006, 08:08 AM Your bigmen suck ass [smilie=anxious.gif] I mean your benched bigmen. Besides Villy, there's no one else. Bonner sucks and Araujo is a waste of height.
The starting lineup is much of an upgrade and that trade makes sense for both teams. Only I dont like the PG. I still dont think James can start despite a few good games he has had. He is best off the bench IMO.
I like the Dupree signing though [smilie=2thumbsup.g:
Too many Euro's so I dont know whos good or not. Ukic seems like a decent prospect.
Not a bad team but definetly not a playoff team.
In 3 years, i see it making the playoffs if Rudy Gay,Bosh, and Villy can play off each other's game.
Pharaoh 02-05-2006, 08:33 AM The big men that get the majority of the minutes are quality players though. Nene, Bosh and Charlie V is pretty good. Bonner, Sow, Araujo and the 2 second round picks are just added depth. In fact those rookie big men wouldn't even play.
Araujo has actually improved this season (not hard to do considering he was shit last season). Not that it matters since I'd be dumping his ass soon enough anyway.
Besides there are always cheap bigs floating around that could provide some hustle and muscle. That's all that is needed for the 4th and 5th big.
I think James fits into what the Raptors are doing and you can't just dump everyone you can. He'll bring leadership and Bosh is a fan of his so it made sense to bring him back.
As for the Euros they only have a couple. Ukic and Slokar (I think that's his name) and both are apparently pretty good.
Besides, the point isn't to judge my plan - it's to see the options that Toronto now has.
I was certain Hammond wouldn't want the job but after checking out their salary siuation for the next 2 years I think it's an attractive situation for him IF he's got 100% control.
Am I reading this right? You've traded a SF (and a pick) to get a rather covetted big in Nene from a team who needs a SG (is MoPete going to back up Melo or are they going to start him at the 2 and sustain their inability to hit a 3 for a 3rd straight season?)
Then you out bid that team for the guy who's probably the best free agent 2 out there that year? (Unless my free agent list is out-of-date)
So your plan is pretty much to get the Nuggets to bend over?
Varsity 02-06-2006, 04:29 PM I'm going to take a crack at this later...Pharoah, I think you did a pretty cool job. My only thing is you might get boo'ed out of Toronto for taking Rudy Gay who plays the same positions as some of your most recent lotto picks- Charlie, Joey and Chris Bosh. Albeit, at this point we have no clue who will truly be top 5 in this particular draft.
cool. i enjoy reading these.
Pharaoh 02-09-2006, 08:56 PM I love the nit-picking.
I shouldn't have even bothered to post what I would do. I should have just stated:
Use Draft Pick on whomever
Retire Alvin Williams
Renounce Mike James
Waive $3,000,000 trade exception
Have $25,000,000 to go shopping.
After spending whatever they want on a C and a PG they can save the remaining cap space for the following off-season, when they can go shopping again.
In 2 years they could be pretty damn good if the new GM makes the right moves
