View Full Version : OGT: Michigan @ Iowa

This is a very tough game. Michigan GOT BY Penn State last night, but traveling to Iowa is big. We know home teams are killing people in the Big Ten this year. Iowa is no exception. They're 13-0 this year at home, and among those home wins are Illinois, Indiana and Ohio State.

Certainly a loss for Michigan would be understandable under the circumstances, but a win, due to what's riding on it and Iowa's home record, would be absolutely huge. For starters, it would reduce the 3-way tie at the top of the Big Ten standings to a 2-way tie between Michigan and Illinois (setting up a showdown Feb 21 at Michigan).

My prediction?

Sadly, Iowa 71, Michigan 64. Michigan will make a late run but run out of gas. They'll come home licking their wounds looking to turn around and get reading for the Buckeyes.

Either:

A. We're going to get waxed.
B. Both teams will play like crap and Michigan wins a close one because of our free throws.

This game is so huge in the BT race right now. Wisconsin is going down the tubes and so is Indiana. In my opinion, it is going to evolve into a three horse race. Illinois is sitting in the driver's seat. Michigan is in the passenger's seat. And MSU is patiently waiting in the back. Because of the schedules (Illinois and Michigan both only playing Wisc. once), these games against teams like Iowa and OSU are huge.

If Michigan, Illinois, and MSU take care of business in games they "should" win, how big will those late season UM vs. Illini, UM vs. MSU, MSU vs. Illini become?

This one is big, UM has all the momentum in the world, but I can't see Iowa's guards winning this one. UM by 4.

This is one time I would love for Tre to be right and myself to be wrong.

Did Mood steal your login Tre? This new praising Michigan thing is throwin me off.

I am like Jethro.

Michigan at home, beats anyone pretty much.

Until they win a big game on the road, they will all be losses to me.

I think we get nipped by about 5 at Iowa. I think we are due for a loss and road wins in the Big Ten are happening as frequently as Wizzle is posting. [smilie=arrgh.jpg]

Iowa-73
Michigan-68

I really hope I'm wrong. I predicted the Michigan win over MSU and the Piston loss to the Nets. And I'm officially on fiiiiiiiiiiiiiah! [smilie=fireworks.g:

To many peoples surprise, I will pick UM 70-69 in OT.

Injuries are mounting up again. Lester-still out with the ankle, Jerret Smith-out with a concussion. This leads to meaningful minutes from Jevohn Shepherd, Sherrod Harrell and Hayes Grooms. ICK! [smilie=yuck.gif]

I've praised Ron Coleman recently, but if Lester was on the floor, he'd give us so much more. Coleman, Shepherd, Harrell and Grooms are really hurting us right now. Let's see if Michigan can overcome these jicks and make it a game.

Nope.

Terrible game. Flat out embarrassing performance. [smilie=wreck.gif] We played like crap [smilie=shithitsthe: and they shot the freaking lights out.

I hope Michigan enjoyed being ranked for a week.

Ouch time for Michigan. Looks like 1 week in the Top 25 might be it for the maize and blue, I guess they might not be for real. Everyone might wanna hold the hype on UM basketball as far as Big 10 champs are concerned. Michigan State didn't play very well either, but I'll take bad play and a win over lookin' like shit. Looks like it may come down to the last few games in the Big 10.

How in the hell did Illinois lose at home to Penn State? At least that softens the blow a little bit. This race is going to be very interesting down the stretch.

Iowa in sole possession of 1st in the Big Ten? [smilie=wtfgun.gif]

Agree Mood, how does Illinois lose to Penn State? I guess that is why the Big 10 is the toughest most competitive conference in the nation.

I thought I was going to seriously start eating my words in regards to this Michigan team, but I'm feeling a little more confident in my assessment now.

They are better than I thought they would be. I'll admit that. But, the way they lost yesterday looked alot like the way they've lost in the past. It's not that they lost on the road (everybody does), it was the stupid mistakes and bad shots.

They better start playing better soon, because there are alot of tough games left and they don't want to lose this momentum that they had.

I agree Tre, they cant win on the road and with Sims sucking as much as he does, they be lucky to beat anyone on the road.

MSU beats UM by 20 at Breslin.

Something is wrong with WTF. [smilie=404.gif] I've dropped in to visit a couple of times today. Every time I click on a UM thread, the sound of crickets chirping comes through on my speakers.

We should get this fixed!

What's to talk about? They got their asses handed to them. I don't really think you can break it down more than that.

WOW...the circumstances between the two losses are so completely different it's not even funny.

You mean both teams losing away games in relatively difficult environments? The only real difference (except that UM got blown the fuck out in Iowa) was that ours was a rivalry game.

No, just that MSU fan's have a right to blast us for losing to Iowa, but not even remotely in the same way that UM fans can blast MSU fans for losing a rivalry game. It's just not the same at all..

I can't speak for anyone else Sunshine, but you know I'm only on here in the middle of the week - so of course I wasn't around. But then, I never told the other team to make sure they showed up either.

And by the way, that was a horribly embarassing loss. Hopefully though, getting their asses handed to them will make them focus. I guess we'll find out when Ohio State comes to town. Even though they are ranked and Iowa wasn't, Ohio State as a road team is very different from Iowa as a home team. This is more of a winnable game.

I believe the OSU game is absolutely HUUUUUUGE for Michigan. If they lose, I think they are going to tank the rest of the way. At the same time, if they win, they are going to erase that Iowa game and regain that momentum they had. I'll be watching this one closely. Huge BT implications here.
