View Full Version : Let's end it!

I’m going to attempt to do something never done before. Let me see if I can get all of the Spartans and Wolverines to agree on something and put an end to the topic for good. We all watched the same S-M game. We all saw the same thing. What we admit about it, is what separates us.

1st of all, I don’t blame M fans for defending their win. I would do the exact same thing. If this exact same situation occurred in fball with State getting a W, I would defend it, call M fans crybabies, etc.

It’s common sense. Your team gets a win against their rival, are you going to admit to any injustice? Heeeeeeeell no! You’re going to take the win, talk some shit, and come up with reasons why the injustice did not decide the outcome. Any normal fan would do that.

So I don’t blame M fans at all for anything they’ve said regarding the game. At the same time, do you M fans blame MSU fans for being furious? Look at it from our point of view. MSU was sitting pretty. They were #4 in the RPI and they came out like world beaters against their rival. Once they gained an early 13 point lead the game was changed by numerous off the ball fouls. Disagree? MSU was called for 4 off the ball fouls on the same possession. Obviously, things changed. Whether or not they were deserved is for you to decide. But, I think we can agree a 24 free throw edge is significant and it changed MSU’s play (aggressiveness, rotations, etc.) So can you understand why we’d be so pissed and complain?

So I’m going to pull out the elementary slogan from back in the day. Put yourself in the other persons shoes. I totally understand where UM fans are coming from. UM had nothing to do with the officials and when they were given the opportunity, they took advantage. I think we can all agree that UM deserves credit for pulling out the win. Can we all also agree that the officiating “MIGHT” have decided the game? I hope so. Then we can move on.

Hey guys, just to let you know, I'm not attempting to start our 1,000 msu-um thread. I'm attempting to put an end to this and maybe let the other 1,000 threads die off.

I personally have already moved on. It was a regular season Big Ten game on the road, lots of teams lose them. Against a rival yes, but the law of averages says Michigan is gonna win every so often. Do I think Michigan fans have made too big a deal out of it? Probably, I'm all for acting like you've been there before, but they haven't been anywhere recently so I understand. Did the officiating piss me off? Sure, but no more so then countless Big Ten games the Spartans have played in the past.

Something I've also seen in past Spartan Big Ten games are extended scoring droughts like the one MSU had of 7 minutes. In my opinion, and everyone is entitled to their own, such a scoring drought is as responsible as the poor officiating for the loss. Is one a result of another? Maybe. I hold my team to a higher standard though. MSU should be able to stare bad refs in the face, take the foul trouble, and continue to throw punches with the opponent. If Ibok and Rowley are forced into duty because of other's foul trouble than they should play well enough for MSU to win. Same for Joseph and Walton.

I understand your motivations, frustrations, and feelings behind this post. I'm only worried that you're inviting more criticism rather than putting an end to it.

Take solace in the fact that as the favorite in baketball MSU can lose to Michigan every so often and still have a Championship caliber season. If Michigan loses to MSU in football it makes a lot more trouble for them.

Dre spoke the God's honest truth there MUHME. You're just continuing your bitch fest at Tre and having a hard time grasping what exactly he said.

"We all saw the same thing". If we all watched the same game, which we did...then we all watched the same thing. This isn't rocket science guys.

"What we admit about it, is what separates us." Again, no shit. Spartans see a foul and say it was ticky tack and excessive. Wolverines see the same foul and say that it was deserved and a result of an overaggressive defense. Regardless of who was right, it's called selective perception mother fuckers and it is what makes Spartans and Wolverines see the exact same game differently.

Jesus Christ you guys can stick a tack up your ass over anything. [smilie=404.gif]

I'm not on either side really, but the first post in this thread is total BS. You are willing to concede that you can understand why U of M fans refuse to admit that their win was bullshit as long as they in their part admit that it was bullshit??? Are you kidding me?? Have you ever thought that maybe some people just plain don't agree with you?? Or..."gasp"....that maybe you're just plain wrong??

You're trying to have your pie and eat it too. If you really want to make "peace" you're going about it the total wrong way.

I agree. It reeks of passive-aggressive bullshit.

No offense, Tre.

I agree. It reeks of passive-aggressive bullshit.

Totally agree. I just thought maybe the Sparties could give a little, the Wolverines could give a little, and we could end it.

I talk shit and complain, I catch flack.

I give props and try to smooth everything out, I catch flack.

I'm about done with this site.

Listen, the only way to put this to rest is to stop talking about it. By bringing it up again and again... a week after the game happened, you're just giving Michigan fans fuel. I haven't seen one Michigan fan say that they're better than State. Not one. They're just giving you shit, because Michigan beat a State team when no State fan gave them a chance in hell to do it.

It's over. It's a regular season game. Michigan won. State lost. Who care. Guess what? MICHIGAN STATE WILL MAKE THE NCAA TOURNAMENT.

So in conclusion, Michigan is better.

(Just kidding... don't start fighting)

There's a saying somewhere, I think it goes like this...

Tre,

If you would have taken your medicine and explained your position without mixing in backhanded insults, you would have been fine.

A simple "I was wrong, truce?" probably would have sufficed.

We all know that you didn't like the officiating, but we've all been there. It just so happens that you've been ripping others for reacting the exact same way that you reacted here, so it's blowing up a bit on you.

You talked shit and then you didn't show to face the fire, big whoop.

You are a great poster that will most likely get your revenge the next time these teams play. Maybe you'll approach it differently next time, maybe not.

If you want to leave, that's up to you, we don't beg people to stay here. But please do us the courtesy of letting us know that you aren't coming back so we can add a new mod to keep things balanced.

What nobody can realize, is as long as blinded by homerism posters in favor of either school post on this board, the bitching and moaning and whining will never end.

Simple as that, as long as there are avid State fans, and as long as there are avid Michigan fans, the arguments will continue well... forever.

Just stop talking about this and say you'll settle it in the tournament.

My problem with this whole thing is not your whining. I could care less. All fans react the same way when they feel there was an injustice. No matter how stupid and shallow it makes you look.

My problem is that you are a pussy. A straight up mutha fucking pussy. You talk all your shit and even call out other UM posters and then when shit goes down, where is Tre?!? No one knows....you come a couple days later and give us this shit their your girlfriend stole your balls after the game, because she was afraid for you.

Now you are spewing how you didnt want to get into a 12 hour fight about this. WHo was going to make you stay on for 12 hours? Say what you got to say, let some UM fans trash you and be done with it.

Basically you went from a 12 hour fight to a 12 day fight because you didnt show up in the first place.

Now you want a truce of what not? First off get your balls back from your GF.

Secondly, you need to apologize to some of the UM fans for not coming here in a timely fashion to get his medicine.

Last but not least, take a page from SpartyNick and have some class when losing. Everyone loses to their rivals. Gloat it up on the days they win and sit back and take it when the lose.

Until you are ready to do this...sit down and shut the fuck up and take another one of your "breaks".

I think you have been watching too much Dr. Phil with this break shit.

there is no point to this thread since there is already a MSU vs U of M bball game thread stickied. If you want to debate the game, keep it there. This has deteriated anyway.

Here's my personal take on what would end it, and I'm talking not just about this one game, but about any of the current arguments that are tired and played out.
I'm not talking about total peace and agreement, because there should always exist argument between the fans of these two schools, but this addresses the old arguments that really have to go.

#1 - Admit that State basketball and Michigan football are on the same or similar levels.
Even a few of your fellow State fans have said that State can't make the argument for being elite if Michigan can't also. Both have their reasons why they should be there and both have their reasons why they shouldn't. It's neither or both.

#2 - Admit that in reasonably close games where there were obvious blunders by officials, that the losing team always has a reasonable excuse to complain.
Does Michigan football complain about some losses? Of course we do. Do we complain about every one? No, that's you trying to paint a picture. The fact is most of their losses in the past three years have been very close and Michigan could have won about half of them had a call or two gone the other way. That's not saying Michigan is the most amazing team ever, since there's a problem with them allowing the games to be that close in the first place, but it's simply wrong for you to get all over us and then pull the stunt you've been on. I'm fine with admitting I complain about officiating quite a bit, but how many times have I made 17 threads about it and given it a name? Either teams can complain in close games with questionable officiating or they can't. It's neither or both.

So that's it. I can admit a lot of things, I just want the hypocracy to end. I'll only deny things if you make it obvious that denial is acceptable. So you agree to admit the two things above and I know that for me, it has ended. I'm going out on a limb and guessing the majority of the regulars on the board would accept it as well, and it would probably help you redeem yourself a lot on here.

By the way, I'm on record as understanding why you wouldn't want to be here at length the next day, but here is a suggestion. Next time, if there is one, if you feel the way you've described but you've called others out to be here, I would say something like this:
"Look, I'm extremely pissed right now and I don't want to get into it yet, but I said I would be here and I am. Look for more from me when I cool down because I plan to spit some serious fire about the officiating."
Then, people may call you a whiner or anything else, but they'll never be able to say you didn't make an appearance. That doesn't take long to do and you don't have to read anything else until you're good and ready. Just a thought.
