One night after losing for the first time in more than three weeks, the Detroit Pistons look to bounce back at home against the Minnesota Timberwolves, coach Flip Saunders' former team.

The matchup comes eight days after Saunders won in his return to Minneapolis, a 107-83 Pistons victory Jan. 24 in which the coach received loud cheers before tipoff.

"It was nice," Saunders said after that win. "Coaches do like those kind of games."

The Pistons had no problem regrouping from their previous five losses this season, winning each of the following games by an average margin of 12.8 points. Detroit has not lost consecutive regular-season games since dropping three in a row from March 22-25.

Detroit saw its 11-game winning streak snapped in Tuesday night's 91-84 loss at New Jersey, its first defeat since Jan. 7. The Pistons shot just 37 percent from the floor and failed to score more than 22 points in any quarter.

"We take nothing from this," said Chauncey Billups, who led Detroit with 30 points. "We're lucky that we've got a game (Wednesday) so we don't have to sit too long on it. It'll give us a chance to start a new streak at home."

Billups played two seasons for the Timberwolves. He's averaging 21.7 points per game in seven contests against Minnesota since leaving as a free agent after the 2001-02 season.

The Timberwolves have a different look than they did when they faced the Pistons last week. Ricky Davis, Mark Blount, Marcus Banks and Justin Reed are on the team after last Thursday's seven-player trade with the Boston Celtics. Wally Szczerbiak, Michael Olowokandi and Dwayne Jones are gone.

The new acquisitions all played well against their old team in Monday night's 110-85 victory over the Celtics. Banks led the Timberwolves with a season-high 20 points and six assists, impressing new teammate Kevin Garnett.

"I didn't like it. I loved it," said Garnett, who had 15 points and nine rebounds.

Blount had 16 points and 10 rebounds in his Minnesota debut. Davis added nine points and Reed, seldom-used in Boston, also scored nine.

The 110 points were the most for the Timberwolves since a 113-108 victory Dec. 2 at the Los Angeles Lakers, and the 25-point victory margin was their largest of the season.

Despite last week's loss, Minnesota is 12-4 against the Pistons since the start of the 1997-98 season.

So 21-22 is good enough to be 2nd place in a division?

The NBA stinks.

I'm guessing/hoping that we don't play lazy-ass chucker basketball and put up nearly 30 threes again.

We should handle these guys, even on a back to back with travel.

I wondered when we were going to lose two in a row this year, if at all, I sure hope that this is not it.

this is a back to back? I didnt even realize it. It would suck if our first losing streak came here.

I want Delfino to get more minutes than Mo Evans!!!

Wow, no game thread chat? Anyways, by the score and by the sound of Blaha's voice in the back of the classroom, sounded like just another night at the office.

Arroyo looks to have had a solid game (6pts, 4 assists) except for the PFs (4, but thats pretty much expected). How long was he out there (I couldn't watch the game)?

Matt
02-02-2006, 08:21 AM
Arroyo played 19 minutes.

he was 2-5 FG. he nailed his first two shots in a row, and then proceeded to miss his next 3 shots. as usual Arroyo was a fouling magnet. not sure if it's lack of respect from the refs, but Arroyo gets called for a LOT of touch fouls. i know he doesn't move his feet as well as other defenders, but it seems Arroyo gets whistled very often for the little minutes he plays.

Matt, thanks for the chat recaps. By adding the chat feature (which is great, btw) I think we've seen the end of OGT's as we know them. We probably won't have 8-9 page threads anymore, it'll primarily be a place for pre-game discussion and post game analysis from now on.

But the chat recaps will be extremely valuable for guys who can't see the game live (like Pharaoh) that depend on OGT's for information/reactions from everybody here.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if you posted the whole transcript, maybe we should discuss how to handle this going forward in a separate thread?

yeah, that's what i was thinking too. maybe we could have a running contest on guessing final score, top scorer, etc. if people are interested of course.

I can't even put into words how cool it was seeing players (and a coach) from my two favorite teams intermingling last night.

It was fucking incredible.

Here's Coach Cowher during one of the few times when he didn't look as uncomfortable as humanly possible sitting next to Bill "Dumbo Ears" Davidson. That's Spider Salley on the left.

Here's (the other) Big Ben & my boy Jerome rocking their Chauncey jerseys. I'm trying to figure out if that is a Ben Wallace jersey or a Sheed jersey that Hines Ward has there.

That would have been a great game to attend.

I think the Bus just made a joke about how how he hooked up with Ben's mentally disabled sister and everyone else thinks it's in poor taste, except for the Bus who doesn't give a shit and laughs at whatever he wants.

Ben: Fuck you, Bus.
Hines: That's sick, man.
Bettis: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

(Either that or Bettis just ripped some REALLY bad ass)

For this response, I had a hard time picking between:

a) Did you get in his pants?

or

b) Was his lap warm and comfy?

So I went with both.
