Iguodala, Robinson Warrick join slam-dunk field
Associated Press
NEW YORK -- Atlanta Hawks forward Josh Smith could become the third player to win consecutive NBA slam dunk contests when he participates in the event during All-Star weekend.
Michael Jordan won back-to-back competitions in 1987-88 and Jason Richardson did it in 2002-03.
Joining Smith in contest this year will be Andre Iguodala of the Philadelphia 76ers, New York Knicks 5-foot-9 guard Nate Robinson and Hakim Warrick of the Memphis Grizzlies.
Judges for the event, scheduled for Feb. 18 in Houston, all have ties to the Houston Rockets. Clyde Drexler, Moses Malone, Elvin Hayes and Kenny Smith were all stars for the team and former coach Rudy Tomjanovich led the Rockets to two NBA titles.
The winner will receive $35,000, the runner-up gets $22,500 and the third and fourth finishers get $16,125 each.
Glenn 01-31-2006, 03:01 PM I'm predicting that Robinson will rock a Spud Webb jersey, but I'm going with Iguodala for the win.
I can't believe that they give these guys cash to do this, I hope they are giving it to charity.
BigggChris04 01-31-2006, 03:02 PM LeBron wont be in
...
Is it just me, but when he does his HighLight Dunks on ESPN its either that
1) 2 handed reverse WindMill (I think that's what they call it)
2) Cockback/Tomahawk dunk, it looks powerful
...
im so sick and tired of ESPN showing that same shit damn dunk
MoTown 01-31-2006, 03:06 PM Which is why the best dunk last year wasn't nearly praised enough. When JR Smith did the behind the back in the air while spinning, that was the most impressive dunk I have EVER seen. And he didn't even get a very high score for it! It was easily the best dunk of the day, and I don't even think ESPN showed it.

i remember watching Lebron's HS dunk contest. he sucked.
We should have Amir Johnson do a run-in...
darkobetterthanmelo 01-31-2006, 05:27 PM You all need to wake up and realize the power of Hakim Warrick. Royal Ivey has not been the same since Hakim gave him a teabag in the 03 final four.
Darth Thanatos 01-31-2006, 06:17 PM Josh Smith will absolutely destroy the "competition".
Cross 01-31-2006, 06:27 PM Josh Smith.
I have seen clips of Nate Robinson trying to dunk at scout.com He's creative but sometimes he doesnt have the height. He will try that 540 alley oop, but it doesnt work. So nate is out.
Warrick. Nah.
AI #2.Nah
Koolaid 01-31-2006, 06:40 PM Josh Smith will absolutely destroy the "competition".
that isn't going to happen. Nate Robinson is already the favorite. Don't forget how much it means to win the crowd over in a slam dunk contest. You know he could do a dunk that wasn't even as good as everyone else's and get a standing ovation.
Black Dynamite 01-31-2006, 06:53 PM Igoudala will be 2nd. Josh Smith will win it.
and why isnt amir giving it a shot? too tired?

Artis Gilmore 01-31-2006, 06:56 PM Li'l Nate.
Anthony 01-31-2006, 10:06 PM Fuck the dunk contest. What a waste of time.
RegicideGreg 01-31-2006, 10:14 PM They wanted Nate Robinson in just so they can play up the whole Spud Webb angle. The NBA is hoping for him to win. Just another marketing scheme.
MOLA1 01-31-2006, 11:16 PM Fuckin weak that we can't see some of the older cats in this.
Rising Stars my ass! It's the "Rising Bench Players Dunk Contest"
Josh should win. He's fuckin smooth as hell.
H1Man 02-02-2006, 02:49 AM Josh Smith is good but I think Warrick will take it this year.
Cross 02-02-2006, 06:26 AM Here is a dunk from the Lakers game by NAte Robinson. Sick from someone from 5'8.

Pharaoh 02-04-2006, 08:58 AM Chances are that Smith doesn't win it.
I'll go with Nate Robinson simply because of the Spud Webb thing but will secretly hope Hakim Warrick wins it.
Since I posted that I guess it's not a secret, but who cares, right?
Glenn 02-06-2006, 11:01 AM I can't believe that only myself and one other person likes AI 2 to win this thing.
Anybody got the Vegas odds? I might have to drop some cash on my boy.
MOLA1 02-06-2006, 01:03 PM BIRDMAN!!!!
Varsity 02-06-2006, 01:48 PM Which is why the best dunk last year wasn't nearly praised enough. I agree. They did show it though and he got like a 48/50 for it. It's his other dunks that hurt him and the fact that they gave Josh 50s consistently for biting Dominique.
Glenn 02-18-2006, 04:37 PM Can Iguodala build on last night's hype?
IGUODALA!!!
Cross 02-19-2006, 01:52 AM AI got robbed. Nate can suck my balls, he did worse than Birdman

Cross 02-19-2006, 01:59 AM OJAY, you are my hero
Glenn 02-20-2006, 08:20 AM I still think AI got the shaft.
When you miss 13 or 14 straight attempts you don't deserve to win anything, IMO.
The scoring system is whack. No penalty for misses?
They need to give them 2 or 3 free rides, and then start assessing a 1 point penalty per miss after that.
I'm not just bitter because I predicted Dirk and AI for the two main contests.
Okay, maybe I am.
Cross 02-21-2006, 07:07 AM Or atleast a time limit. I wanted AI to win the contest, and he did get robbed. [smilie=angry.gif]
