Firmware = The programs that are held permanently in the hardware (microchips, motherboard, and shit) of the device. Its somewhat analogous to the operating system (e.g. Windows XP on you computer) of the device (if that helps).

Yeah, I got a Zen Micro. Very happy with it so far. You get twice the storage Ipod's do for the same price.

Not as many add on gadgets, but you still have the things you would need (car adapters, chargers, etc).
