View Full Version : Utah Jazz cheating?

Padgett following the bouncing ball

Forget Artest, Isiah and Kendra Davis. The NBA has a real scandal that is about to blow, and Scott Padgett has the skinny:

Utah cheats, he says.

In fact, the Jazz has been cheating for years.

"They overinflate the balls," the Nets forward said.

Come again?

"They have an offense geared toward the layup, so they want your jumpers bouncing out," he explained. "The whole time I was there (1999-2003), the balls were hard. I'm gone now, and the balls are still too hard. They overinflate them, I'm telling you."

Padgett was smiling as he spread this malicious gossip because, well, he knows that nobody really cares. But shooters care. Especially shooters who clanged two wide-open shots from downtown at the Delta Center, as he did Monday night -- on a team that shot 2-for-21 overall from international waters.

"I'm not levying a charge, it's the truth," he said. "Ask anybody."

Actually, if you ask Jacque Vaughn, another Jazz alum, he makes a noise with his lips that sounds like a truck backfiring and walks away quickly.

"Or just look at their stats -- their field-goal defense at home and on the road," Padgett suggested.

Actually, they're a .500 team at home, and a .500 team on the road.

"I'm telling you, if one of those balls hits you straight on, you're breaking a finger," Padgett said. "I dislocated one here (right pinkie) and one here (left pinkie), and both happened when I was in Utah."

Actually, referees are supposed to ensure that each game ball is filled with seven to nine pounds of air ... but come to think of it, Nenad Krstic got a ball-jam Monday night, and thought he broke his finger.

"See, it's not a conspiracy theory," Padgett said triumphantly. "It's strictly fact-based

This shit is fucking hilarious!

That is pretty funny.

I remember when the Pistons played in Utah, Greg Kelser pointed out the balls were overinflated (I remember specifically him saying that after Chauncey fumbled his dribble a little bit). Not that it would make a difference in that outcome (we got outrebounded to death), but when our most non-homeristic commentator says that, he might know what the fuck he's talking about.

The game might be on my DVR still, I can probably look up his exact quote tomorrow or something.

You think league would have standard psi levels that officials could easily check...

I remember that. Its silly but if its true it should be corrected. The Jazz never win anything that matters so theres no reason to tear anyone down.

Well then maybe Utah uses the high range of nine pounds of air and most other teams use seven or eight. Not a story then, other than maybe the NBA should shrink the acceptable range as seven to nine is quite a difference.

That's why Memo is doing good there. He's used to overinflation.

yea i was thinking this way back when we were in utah. they overinflated them then. chauncy kept trying to tell the ref before the game. but the ref's dumbass left it up to harpring who obviously said they were just fine.

Yeah, Kelser pointed that shit out too. The NBA should do smething about that.

if a player with more caliber than padgett stepped up. Then the league i'm sure would deal with it. but otherwise Utah is gonna keep doing what they do.

i know this is going to sound goofy, but could it just be the air pressure of playing in the mountains?

That team and organization has been dirty for a long time. Stockton and Malone were cheap shot dirty scum bag pieces of shit, Sloan coaches that team to set illegal picks so nothing they do shocks me.

actually thats what i thought when it happened to us.

then, i realized that it doesnt happen in denver and the air is even thinner out there. so i'm not sure thats what the case it. but im no expert on air density and its effect on basketball. so who knows either way.

the air pressure is less up there, but the pressure inside the ball is what would matter. If the ball is 9 PSI or whatever the standard is, it would contact the rim the same regardless of altitude. The trajectory of the ball might be effected on the way to the basket, but the contact with the rim itself would not be. Also, it would be the same, if not moreso in Denver. Have there been complaints there?

Is the stadium pressurized too? If they have pressurized doors like the Silverdome has, it wouldn't make a difference.

Why doesn't it surprise me that the team that gets exposed as cheaters is owned by a "deeply religious man"?

Larry Miller: "We won't play no gay movies at our movie theaters. Its against our religious beliefs. Now, who's got the money to bribe the officials for tonight's game? Oh, yeah, I left it on the nightstand at my mistress' house. I was so busy blowing coke off her tits, I left my bible and bribe money there. Praise the lord! God hates faihgs."

The basketballs at my school are also over inflated. It's hard to make a jumpshot and if you barley tap it off the backboard it will go backcourt almost.
