He looks like a rat.

He wears a mask.

He's shooting 51% from the field.

49% from 3pt land.

87% from the line

21 ppg

I don't know about you guys, but shooting over 50% at SG is amazing. Nobody really talks about it. He has the highest fg% for someone averaging more than 20 ppg.

I think he looks more Jar Jar Binks than a rat, but I agree Rip Hamilton in any other city would be a big deal, but here is the afterthought. I'd go as far as saying he is the least discussed Piston on the roster.

He still bailed on that charge in the finals though...

Your right, he's quiet, never the center of the game, but he does his thang exceptionally well. And nobody notices his all around game.

Holy shit, I just told my mom the same thing today. RIP is having a career year right now. Shooting 50% is huge for a two guard. Specally him, because his game is jump shots. He dosnt get to the basket much. His 3 ball has really improved also. He deffently deserves more attention that what he's gotten.

playing within the offense and taking high percentage shots. yet the notion of taking Rip over the other "heave ho" elite sg's in this league for the pistons is frowned upon by boy wonders everywhere.

He's over 50% on threes now. Leads the league. Crazy.

I've been saying it for a while:

RIP might be the most efficent 2 guard in the NBA.

I never realized he shot so well. Im going to guess it's from the baseline.

think he'll go into the 3pt contest?

think he'll go into the 3pt contest?

when you lead the league in 3 point percentage you gotta at least get an invite don't you?

i think if i was him and they didn't vote me an all-star but asked me to go to the 3 point contest i'd decline it.

Flip's offense has definately helped Rips %. Look at Szczerbiak's FG% over the years, aside from his injury year he is always right near or above 50% (though not often on 20pts/game).

That being said Rip is doing amazing and he's stroking that 3 like mad. This (his 3pt range) is what I thought we'd see from him last year after all that talk about him working on it in the offseason and his use of it in the pre-season.

His overall efficiency is incredible. He's even out-pacing his playoff stats (which are better than his seasonal averages).

I was planning a Rip appreciation thread myself, nice work Cliff.

Dude is amazing.

YES SIR!

RIP is the man for sure.

that being said, the 3 point contest for RIP would be a disaster. He doesn't have the right type of shot for the contest. His feet aren't really square when he takes them, and he doesn't have the weight/strength to shoot so many in a row.

At any rate, RIP is really flying under the radar with all the Billups talk.

And he's sacrificed assists, steals and rebounds--truly making him a one dimensional player. I love Rip's game, but if you want to know why he gets less love than other Pistons, those "other" numbers are a good place to start looking.

Nah, they can tell the difference between 3pt shooters and "opportunistic" 3pt shooters. That's why they don't invite Bruce Bowen, even though he shoots 47% from there. Bruce and Rip use the offense to get wide open threes and those are the only threes they take- smart and efficient, but that doesn't garner an invite.

I think his improved efficiency on the offensive end kinda offsets his lack of production in other categories. But I do wish that he would focus more on other things than scoring so that when he has an off-night or when he is going against Bowen, he could still be an asset.
