I'm kind of surprised that thomas moved this far too. it's really sad that Big Frank isn't more revered in Chicago. He did such amazing things for the first half of his career and has been more than solid since, he's just had some injury troubles. On the other hand, this is just a classic Billy Beane signing here. Frank Thomas still has tons of power and still can post a huge on base percentage. Glenn 01-26-2006, 08:15 AM Did he really only get $500,000, or are there a ton of incentives? Jethro34 01-26-2006, 11:44 AM When you've played in the windy city your whole career, ain't nothing wrong with taking your ring and going to Cali. I'm fine with him being out of the division, and I think he should have a nice season in Oakland. Good fit for both the player and the team. Fraserburn 01-26-2006, 12:08 PM the ChiSox left him high and dry after all he did for them its great to see him taking his ring and going somewhere he might be useful instead of being replaced by Jim Thome (also an injury case) Heres the The Big Hurt may your name stand for hurting other teams again rather than yourself... Darth Thanatos 01-26-2006, 01:24 PM Big ass props to the Big Hurt on hitting homers not because of roids, but because of being a fat fuck. Unibomber 01-26-2006, 01:54 PM What exactly is Billy Bean hoping to accomplish NOW? Vinny 01-26-2006, 02:31 PM Uhh, I think he's trying to win. (Just a guess, though.) Anthony 01-26-2006, 02:35 PM Always did like Frank, and the Oakland A's have been the team I rooted 4 in the playoffs when they make it. Hopefully he can help em. Anthony 01-26-2006, 02:36 PM When we only have like 6 threads in here, i can't even think about swatting this. Not like there is a lot to talk about right now. Vinny 01-26-2006, 02:42 PM Did he really only get $500,000, or are there a ton of incentives? http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AqiAIn48FzLNM5vYa2.ae1cRvLYF?slug=ap-athletics-thomas&prov=ap&type=lgns Thomas, a two-time American League MVP who has been slowed by injuries in recent years, can make an additional $2.6 million in bonuses based on plate appearances and not hurting his left foot. He played his first 16 seasons with the Chicago White Sox, who won their first World Series title since 1917 last season. H1Man 01-27-2006, 04:03 AM For that price, it's a good deal for the A's. Assuming he stays healthy all season (a big if), he probably will hit around .275 with 35+ homers. Cross 01-31-2006, 03:33 AM Big ass props to the Big Hurt on hitting homers not because of roids, but because of being a fat fuck. LOL |
