View Full Version : Looking for some feedback on two ideas...

I know the middle of the season can get boring. Right now teams are postioning themselves for the playoffs or the trade deadline, so not much is going on. So I have been thinking about ways to get people posting more.

I was hoping to create some new topics that would be fun and worthy of objective debate. Most of us agree the Pistons roster is set, the suggestion of tweaking it is pointless because it has been talked about over and over.

Therefore I was thinking about creating a new thread every few days with a different team. The point of the thread is to play GM with that team. I wanted it to be approached with a degree of seriousness. What I mean by that is just because you don't like Miami for example, don't make up trades that blow up the roster without justification. I want it to be fun but not a huge joke. I want to see what different people would do to fix franchises, make them contenders or put them over the top. It's a good way to get familar with how trades work( In terms of the CBA), how various people think, and so on.

The other type of thread I wanted to start is kind of over done but thought would be fun and that is debating things like " Best defensive player all time" "Rank your top 5 all time centers and tell us why?" or "best all time roster "

Thoughts? Feedback?

I'd go with #1.

The #2 option has been played to death and most of us are too young to remember the early 80's, 70's etc..

Yeah #1 is a good idea.

I agree with UncleCliffy.

Train...

Nastydaddy is some young kid from Austrailia. He doesn't get the American slang and says somethings you'd expect from a kid. He's a good kid though and has a lot of passion for the Pistons and sits and listens to every game. I actually felt bad for him when people started ripping on him. Give the kid a pass.

Idea 1, like JS himself, rock.

I like option No.1 as well. No.2 not so much as nothing ever really gets decided and you just too often agree to disagree.

Another thing that could be interesting(playing off option No.1)at least for a day or two would be to have members adopt a team - hopefully getting enough members interested that all 30 would be adopted - and then members could try to improve their teams via trading with other adopted teams. Sorta like virtual GM. Then again interest in our fantasy league seems terribly low, so maybe not. Yes I am a geek.

Edit - My idea would be over in a couple of days, yours could last 29 days. Therefor my idea is counter productive to the goal of increasing interest over the longhaul.

Not a bad idea at all, and I'm not saying don't do it... but my initial thought is its so much better for the NFL/MLB forums, because our local teams are not contenders.

With the Pistons, Pistons fans will most likely root only for the Pistons (perhaps some will pick a West team, but not me - Pistons all the way, baby!)

I figured he went outside the chain of command here. I guess he'll have to eat the cookie.

I had something planned along the same lines.

I was gonna wait till the AS break to see how the season unfolds and how teams like the Kings, Blazers, Sonics, Bulls and the Knicks do. Also by the AS break, we will know if there are any trades (Artest, KG, PP, Peja and others).

Then using the standings, I was gonna make a thread about each team. Also the draft picture should been taking a shape by that time, giving people one more option in their approach.

Agreed, at least wait till the trade deadline.

Idea 1 is better. I wont participate, but its the better idea.

Sure, we get into a circle and jerk.

But we don't jerk onto a cookie.

The cookie thing is just plain weird and a little gay.

I'd adopt a team, I too am a geek and that sounds fun, though a bit slow. I wish it were like Madden and we could skip some chunks of time.

i think that'd be pretty fun (idea #1).

#2 is good, but only if the criteria is something unique. most other stuff has been debated to death.

I like idea #1 as well and did it on Scout last year just prior to the off-season.

I picked teams with a ton of cap room and a high pick in the Draft.

Atlanta, Charlotte and Chicago would be the 3 I'd choose right now, due to cap space, potential trades one could make and the Draft picks.

If you want West teams how about the Lakers, Portland, Seattle and Utah?
