Pistons will pull this one out late in the 4th. Cant let PP get off.

The Detroit Pistons haven't built the NBA's best record by overlooking opponents.

They'll try to win their fourth straight when they take on the Boston Celtics at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Detroit is taking the game with Boston seriously despite the Celtics' subpar record. The Pistons are playing the second game of five straight against losing teams and are intent on taking advantage.

"That team's been playing up and down, but they've got a lot of great individual talent and they're going to challenge us," said Detroit point guard Chauncey Billups about his former team. "We always have great games with them."

The Pistons are 2-0 against the Celtics this season, including an 82-81 road win on Nov. 4 on Richard Hamilton's jumper at the buzzer. Detroit has won four straight home meetings with Boston and eight of the last nine overall.

Hamilton is averaging 25.5 points against Boston this season.

Detroit began its stretch against sub-.500 teams Saturday by routing the Charlotte Bobcats 114-91. After hosting Boston, the Pistons have road games at Atlanta and New York before returning home to face Houston.

Hamilton led seven Pistons in double figures with 19 points and reserve Maurice Evans added a season-high 18. Detroit recorded its highest point total since a 120-114 double-overtime loss Nov. 25 to the Washington Wizards.

"We moved the ball well, had 35 assists, 12 turnovers and rebounded the ball well," Detroit coach Flip Saunders said of the win over the Bobcats. "We had a good overall performance. We had seven guys in double figures, so it was a good performance."

Boston has not played since a 125-124 triple-overtime loss Friday to the Philadelphia 76ers. The Celtics blew a 16-point lead in regulation and suffered their third close loss in the last four games.

"It's tough, but it's fun," Celtics forward Paul Pierce said. "It's draining, but I'm glad I had a chance to be a part of it."

Boston's last three losses have been by a total of four points. The Celtics are 5-10 in games decided by four points or less.

"We just need to be a smarter team," said coach Doc Rivers after Friday's game. "It's a tough loss."

LOL@ojay and 'Nique in an ATL warmup.

I keep forgetting this is MLKjr Day lucky I got in early so I can step out early enough to watch this live.

The Celtics always make it hard.

Rip goes for 942, Rosco bites off one of Blount's Dumbo ears off, Ben uses Jefferson's face (is he really starting?) to wash the glass, West turns in solid performance, Peirce wakes up in the 3rd but chokes when it matters, and Davis carries the team the whole game but Rivers takes him out when the team needs a crucial score.

(Iam, wheres the clip of Rip's game winner earlier this season? I am sure the copy I have of it on my home PC was ripped from your site but I can't find it on there.)

im curious as to which celtics squad we'll see out there.

Delonte West is an honorary white guy.

Kilo
01-16-2006, 10:03 AM
The only reason Boston could give up trouble is because they have two scoring perimeter players and not a big name big man that will get/keep Rasheed interested. Tay can only guard one of Pierce or Davis, leaving Hamilton the other, and while Hamilton has really improved his defense as a Piston, he's still the weakest link of our starting unit. Delonte West is a bigger PG as well, so Chauncey can't use his size to get an advantage.

It would be now too but they put Scalabrini and his contract amount on all their programs.

(Actually, its because La Frenz is usually the starter)

Delonte West is like a psuedo white guy with a big ass red mark next to his lip.

Pierce will have a big game and Rip will get destroyed by Ricky Davis. They combine for 50-60 points but the Pistons win in an epic 3 OT slugfest. 111-72.

Very good game so far. Evans and Delfino are on fire off the bench. 2-2 on threes for Delfino and a total of 8 points, plus a solid D job on Pierce. Evans has 5 points and a nice three from his sweet spot. Delfino has definitely been the catalyst off the bench and he's the reason we're in this game right now. We were down a ton before he got in the game.

The first foul on Delfino could've gone either way. No call probably would have been the best choice.

The second one was total BS. Pierce got bailed out by the refs on that one.

But both Evans and Delfino did a nice job coming in and providing us a spark.

well his footwork has improved immensely. he was able to stay in front of pierce. he also did a good job of ball denial and delaying touches to the man he was guarding. he still looks a lil tentative on offense but he's starting to drive a lil more. the open 3 pointers set up by cbill helped.

The biggest improvement that Delfino made is the fact that he is playing defense with his feet instead of hands. Also he is very good at anticipating his opponents moves.

As far as his offense, he is still hesitant but I think he will be more effective if Flip put the ball in his hands rather than use him as a spot up shooter.

Arroyo couldn't play today because Boston used bigger point guards in West and Greene. Rasheed Wallace only played 25 minutes vs Charlotte, so 41 minutes isn't that big of a deal.

Only because he runs the pick and roll with Dyess and Dyess knocks down the jumper. It's not some great pass from Arroyo. It could easily be run with Tay or Delfino too. As long as the dribbler presents the threat of taking it all the way to the basket (which Delfino does better than Arroyo actually), the defender will help on the dribbler and leave Dyess open.

Yeah, everyone "except for perhaps Dyess" is seems to be better without Arroyo but perhaps without Arroyo's man blowing by him, Dyess is allowed to be better defensively (he doesn't have to help on the slashing guard) and on the boards (he isn't out of position helping guard Arroyo's blown coverage) without Arroyo?
