View Full Version : Looking way ahead to the draft. (scouting thread)
Koolaid 01-13-2006, 07:06 PM Is anyone else sold on Dee Brown of Illinois?
I thought he would be in the draft last year, but he stayed in college. He was really the core player of illinois last year but There still isn't that much hype around him as a high pick. I think most teams are skeptical of his size, but he's one of the top players in college right now. If he's on the board when the pistons are up they have to draft this dude.
JickBoy34 01-13-2006, 07:07 PM Why?
the wrath of diddy 01-13-2006, 08:09 PM I'm pretty sure we gave Utah our first rounder in the Diet Rafer Alston deal.
Taymelo 01-13-2006, 10:05 PM Didn't he stay in school b/c he broke his ankle in the Tourney, or something?
Darth Thanatos 01-13-2006, 10:09 PM Yeah, he injured his ankle in a workout and decided to stay. Probably would have been a late lotto pick.
Didn't he stay in school b/c he broke his ankle in the Tourney, or something?
I believe he was hurt during the pre-draft camps in Chicago. Dee Brown is pegged as an early second rounder right now AT BEST.

i heard the same shit. which is why i made this thread. he might be available as a late second rounder.
When do we get the Minnesota second-rounder?? That should be a middle of the pack in the second round. It's probably Minnesota's choice but I figure they might look to rebuild after this season(i.e. moving Garnett for young players), and might send up the pick this year to get it over with.

Yup. Portland's got it now from the Deron Williams-Martell Webster draft day deal.
It's possible that if the Pistons like someone in the first round they could package Darko to a team with multiple first rounders, like Toronto.
Cross 01-14-2006, 12:03 AM Wouldnt Mind Dee Brown. I thought he wasnt drafted in the recent draft but i guess im wrong
flipscrackers 01-14-2006, 01:08 AM I'm all for the blind dunk again.

b-diddy 01-14-2006, 10:35 PM interesting, i went on the net to look into brown's draft future and you guys are already talking about him... almost prophetic?
espn insider doesnt even have a draft outlook for him... not sure how many of those they do.
nbadraft.net has him going 49?!?
my guess, his stock soars in the tourny.
to me, he looks like a lindsey clone. i'd probably take him with a mid first rounder. i'd feel alot more comfortable drafting him than jj, thats for sure.
ps he broke his foot in workouts when he was testing the draft waters last year.
Koolaid 01-15-2006, 07:52 AM to me, he looks like a lindsey clone.
I don't see that. He reminds me a little of ben gordon/TJ Ford (depending on whether he chooses to get assists or baskets that game)
anyways, he has to be the most slept on player in college ball right now.
Also Minnesota's second round pick that we got for dupree might actually pay off.
lmcpherson 01-16-2006, 08:40 PM Most slept on player?
Considering he was a preseason first team AA pick by most mags, and a Big Ten POY candidate, and given how much press he's gotten for leading Illinois to a gaudy record in spite of losing Head, Williams, et al., it's hard to justify saying he's slept on.
He is what he is. He's sub 6'0 and maybe 180 wet. He's fast as hell but not a great ball handler. There's a reason why he hasn't played PG til now, and that's because while he has the kind of size for that position, his instincts aren't all that great. His A/TO ratio is less than 2 to 1 at the college level, and he's a sub-.400 shooter. He can get ridiculously hot on occasion, but he's more likely to go 7 for 20. His defense is great when he's allowed to freelance, but is suspect at other times. He was better defensively last year when Williams, Head and Powell were locking their man down.
He might be worth a second round pick, but I'd prefer a PG with some size who plays a solid game. Oh, right, they already drafted that guy (Acker).
It doesn't really matter, though. Anyone drafted in the next draft has a next to nothing chance of making the roster next year.

he is slept on in terms of the draft, how many players can you think of that accomplished so much in college and were awarded so much that weren't even considered likely first round picks? That's what i was talking about.
Also you made good points about his size, however i see that as an advantage. I'm skeptical of players who rely on their size in college to do the same in the pros, players are too much bigger and stronger for that to work the same. Dee Brown relies on his speed though, he's fast enough to do everything he's doing in college in the NBA if you ask me.
Artermis 01-16-2006, 10:17 PM This years draft is going to suck. 2007 is the year of the deep draft.
Dee will go higher than normal because no HS guys coming out.

darkobetterthanmelo 01-16-2006, 10:41 PM Yea how convenient Joe trades away a first rounder in the year it will have the least value.
H1Man 01-16-2006, 10:50 PM We need to try to trade away our 2 second round picks along with Arroyo for some bench help.
Koolaid 01-16-2006, 11:27 PM Alright I know this thread appears to be all about Dee Brown, but that wasn't really my intention. I Just wanted a thread to talk about potential draft picks and stuff like that.
Anyways, The league is going to be in alot of trouble next year because of Rudy Gay. Not because he is a good player, i just can't wait for a guy to be a potential star named Gay. I can see the media now...
Toronto gets Gay in the Draft
He gets in the lane, but the defense collapses and they got Gay to make him cough it up
They're going to need more size to stop that Gay penetration
Duncan with the ball, and he backs down Gay
Gays called for over the back the third time tonight.
Not to mention when he plays Detroit...
Gay with the ball after the rubber rim job, Gay squares up... the bottom!
shit is going to be hilarious.
Unibomber 01-17-2006, 12:12 AM Nah, it'd be funnier if Rudy Gay landed with the Rockets.
I agree with ThePriestTouchedMe...
nba will not pass up on the chance at Gay-Head duo
H1Man 01-18-2006, 04:51 AM Somebody fill me in these guys.
- Justin Williams from Wyoming. From what I read, he is a 6-11 and a good defender. He is averaging 11 ppg, 10 rpg and 6 bpg
- Steven Smith from LaSalle.
- Curtis Withers from Charlotte.

Justin Williams - Expected to be a mid 2nd rounder. Absurdly good shot blocker. Inconsistent at grabbing boards but can be great and is typically very good. Streaky on offense.
Steven Smith - Expected to go in the 1st round. Went to draft camp last year and was expected to be late 1st to mid 2nd round pick but decided to stay in college, draft position could have slipped a bit because of a minor ankle injury but it's not likely. Good rebounder. Doesn't get his team mates involved very often, and on offense he typically plays 1 vs. 5.
Curtis Withers - Expected to be a mid 2nd round pick. Good rebounder. Not much ability to block shots. good at stealing the ball. Might not have the speed to play SF in the NBA, but has the strength to possibly be used like Corliss Williamson. Inconsistent all around game.
JackTalkThai 01-18-2006, 04:56 PM I'd like to see Detroit pick up a guy like James Augustine.
I see him being a Tayshaun-esque sleeper pick. I like his size, his Illinois man-to-man up-bringing, his motor and his athleticism.
H1Man 01-22-2006, 08:24 AM Are there any true SF's in this draft that might be available in the second round?
H1Man 04-10-2006, 08:12 PM This guy, Mouhamed Saer Sene, sounds very intriguing to me. He is 7-0 feet, 230 lbs with a freakish 7'8" wingspan. He has only been playing basketball for 3 years (2003), so he is very raw especially on the offensive end.
The main attraction on the International team is no other than Mouhamed Saer Sene. There are other very talented players, but likely none of them feature the kind of potential that this center from Senegal displays. He is also much more of an unknown that Datome, who has enjoyed exposure at Euroleague level. Far from the top European showcase, Saer Sene fights for playing time in the Belgian League, and not very successfully. He only averages around 10 minutes, and averages 3 points, 4 rebounds and 1 block per game. Sene has been blessed with perfect physical characteristics for a center: excellent size, terrific athleticism, and a nice frame, tools that make him a very prolific rebounder and shot blocker. However, he's still a very raw basketball player. Having taken up basketball very late, he still hasn't learned the game. Still, the potential is there, and it will take him all the way to the NBA if he manages to fulfill it to a certain degree.

Could turn out to be a good gamble in the second round.

Saer's not coming out untill '07 most likely, but I've had my eye on him for a while. It would be nice to get big man with legit 7-0 size and crazy wingspan without the "bells and whistles" (ie perimeter shooting, ballhandling, and all the other hype crap [attitude problem]). He'd likely have to be the Orlando pick though. I've seen him projected as a late lottery pick. Reminds me of Dalembert. I'd definately grab him if he was around for our late 1st rounder, and maybe the Orlando (depending on where the pick is and who is available obviously). The guy blocked 9 shots at the Nike Hoop Summit. Tying KG's record.
darkobetterthanmelo 04-10-2006, 08:38 PM Rajon Rondo. All we need. And this senegal guy sounds like he is more clueless than Dalembert was, which I thought was impossible.

He won't be available with the 60th pick in the draft, I can guarantee that. And Sene isn't likely coming out till '07, so that's a different thing.
I've talked to some french basketball fans that have said Sidiki Sidibe is the next "big thing" out of France. And "Big thing" he is. 7-0/270lbs. He declared for this draft, but he'll likely fall to the 2nd round. If we get the T-Wolves pick he'd be a good pick there.
b-diddy 04-10-2006, 09:16 PM i like james white out of cincinnatti with our second rounder.
DrRay11 04-10-2006, 09:22 PM i like james white out of cincinnatti with our second rounder.
If nothing else, it would be fun watching a Piston in the dunk contest. [smilie=2thumbsup.g:
So much for Sene, the hype bandwagon has officially started rolling, so he'll probably come out now while he's "the next big thing".
http://www.draftexpress.com/viewarticle.php?a=1263
First Simmons declares, now Sene. I'll be pissed if this "Orlando Pick" draft gets continues to get watered down.
Cross 04-11-2006, 07:08 PM I dont really want White. He doesnt make us any more flexible. He doesnt have the best shot, but it would be fun watching Amir and White dunk. Hell even add Delfino and Evans to the mix.
I know for sure Rondo wont be ccoming until the 60th, but he would be a PG that fill our needs.
Come to really think of it, White would be the only player who could actually play the position we need
