Pistons take heat for calendar with sexy pictures

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) — A 2006 calendar showing scantily clad women from the Detroit Pistons dance team has drawn criticism from a Christian group that says the pictures are too sexy.

The calendar is in its third year and shows members of the Pistons dance team Automation in — and partially out of — swimsuits.

The American Decency Association last month started an e-mail campaign to officials of the NBA club, saying the calendar is inappropriate for a team supported by families, women and young children.

"To me, this is a form of prostitution," said Barbara Rotary of Pontiac, who said she saw the calendar while Christmas shopping and alerted the group. "The Pistons are profiting from using women's bodies this way."

The association is based in Fremont, about 40 miles north of Grand Rapids in rural western Michigan.

In a mission statement on its Web site, the group says, "As Christians, we need to be increasingly discerning regarding our choices of media entertainment, recognizing that our bodies are the temple of the Lord, and we should not expose ourselves to that which will degrade and dishonor."

Pistons president Tom Wilson said the calendar is artistic and tasteful and contains images anyone could see on the beach.

"We've had far more positive comments than negative," Wilson told The Detroit News. "The girls look beautiful. They don't look sleazy or cheap."

The calendar shows the dancers posing around Michigan. The team gave away most of the 8,000 calendars at a December game, while others are on sale for $13 in team stores. Buyers must be at least 18 years old. Profits go to charity.

A form of prostitution. I would find that insulting if I am the Pistons. A calendar of hot women is not the same as having sex. That's a rediculous statement. She'd still be way off base if she said it's a like a strip club or something, but closer than her wild statement.

its like people expect to get help from their tv in raising their kids. Entertainment and media's only responsibility is to label their material for the proper age group. after that its all up to the parents IMO. if that sounds like too tough a job, then it sounds like some people need to rethink their want/need to have kids. i never felt the "take the easy way out" in raising your offspring.

the chance at hands on parenting slowly vanishes once they hit their teens. so its best to take full advantage.

I don't believe that any straight man doesn't notice that. I don't know if it's something in the food girls eat or what but they are sexy as fuck nowadays. I don't think it's wrong to notice that 16 year olds are looking good, it's wrong to fuck them though. It's really a shame too. I remember the pretty girls i used to go to school with. They were always dating a guy at least 3 years older then them. Typically trashy dudes with lower moral standards then the general public would catch them young and then lose them once the girl gained some sense. the reason it's fucked up is the guys her age are left with younger girls. That's why it's common for high school senior guys to date freshmen girls but vice versa never really happens.

The reason you don't fuck underage isn't because it doesn't seem sexually arousing. It's just not socially acceptable, it's morally troublesome and it's illegal. The illegal aspect applies to other things that i've done anyway, but I definitely would not want to catch a case for humping underage girls.
