RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia Tech athletic director Jim Weaver said Tuesday that his administration was embarrassed by Marcus Vick's unsportsmanlike conduct in the Gator Bowl on Monday and that the incident will be reviewed and dealt with.
Vick, the Hokies junior quarterback, stomped on the left calf of NCAA sacks leader Elvis Dumervil of Louisville when Dumervil lay prone on the ground after tackling Vick in the second quarter of the game in Jacksonville, Fla. Vick said later it was an accident, but his version was not supported by video replays shown widely since.
After the play, Vick seems to pause before walking across Dumervil's leg.
Vick was not penalized on the play, but was rebuked at halftime by quarterbacks coach Kevin Rogers, who said he even considered pulling Vick from the lineup.
With Vick throwing two touchdown passes, the Hokies rallied for a 35-24 victory.
Coach Frank Beamer said he did not see the play and couldn't comment after the game, and he and Rogers did not return phone messages left at their offices Tuesday.
Weaver also did not return messages left at his home and office.
In his statement, Weaver said Vick's behavior was "unacceptable" and "not reflective of Virginia Tech football nor of the values we hold at Virginia Tech. I and my colleagues in central administration are embarrassed and this athletic administration will not condone such acts of unsportsmanlike conduct.
"We will review and assess this incident further and deal with it accordingly."
That had better accordingly be a fucking suspension. I'm sick and tired of this fucker trying to get out of everything because he's Michael's little bro. I saw that video and if that wasn't deliberate I will give Anna Nicole Smith 24 hours of non-stop pleasure. Fucking stupid.

how many of you fucks that are crying about this actually played any level of football before? IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME! This just got caught on tape. Unreal
MoTown 01-04-2006, 09:15 AM Agree with MUHME. It does happen all the time, and unless it was intent to injure, instead of intent to annoy, then it's normal. Is it right? No. Is it sportsman-like? No. Is he a bunch of punks for doing it? Sure. But this happens every game. And the only reason he will get punished for it is because he is Mike Vick's brother, not a fat lineman that does it all the time.

:salute: Right on!!!! I totally agree with you here especially the fact that it was a Vick that took part in this. I played TB at the High School level and this would happen EVERY DAMN GAME! I am sure it happens in EVERY DAMN COLLEGE GAME. Brilliant post man!!! major kudos!!
DennyMcLain 01-04-2006, 02:38 PM Obviously, if Weaver had gotten up before Vick, and something similar had happened, a flag would've been launched. But, the other way around, the QB was no longer in "danger", and I'm sure the refs were looking somewhere else.
Darth Thanatos 01-04-2006, 03:24 PM Marcus Vick is a sexy beast.
DennyMcLain 01-04-2006, 04:27 PM Marus Vick is a talentless, coat-tailing assclown. I'm no huge fan of ACC sports (@#$!% ESPN overhype), but Vick makes Tim Weatherford look like Dan Marino.
When Miami owned them, Vick played like a true freshman (though he is not) -- scattered and uninspired. Beemer is a wonderful coach, and a special teams master. But he'd better begin placing reigns on this punk before it gets out of hand. Obviously he's a spoiled brat -- who owns a brand new Escalade!

No, people kick, bite, claw, scratch and all that, but rarely is an obviously intentional stomp done.
I've played football for a good bit of my life, and the part that pisses me off the most is that it was after the whistle, and by a QB(who practically have a halo protecting them).
The whistle should be the end, and QB's you can't get back at like other players.

ACfromtheD 01-06-2006, 05:27 PM MUHME weren't you the one touting this kid as the second coming earlier this year? What a degenerate.
DetTitan 01-06-2006, 05:27 PM awww...muhme, you love Va Tech! What a sad day for you!
theMUHMEshow 01-06-2006, 05:30 PM There is more to this story than what is coming out. I can tell you that for sure. I was all over this kid and I still him. It is however apparent that he cannot handle college life. Let his ass get to the NFL, learn a system for a year or two and he will be an amazing addition to any team.
ACfromtheD 01-06-2006, 05:30 PM MUHME you either didn't see the replay of the incident or everyone you played against hated you like Kanye hates George W Bush. He stomped on the dudes leg after the play was over with obvious intent to hurt him. That shit never happens without severe penalty. And just so you don't question me I played on the d line in hs and te. That shit deserved a severe penalty, and considering his past he deserved to get kicked off. What a degenerate.

ACfromtheD 01-06-2006, 05:32 PM What are you saying? He can't handle being in school but once he gets millions of dollars, has no one to tell him what to do and is surrounded by even more people with bad intentions he is going to be ok? Please, I wouldn't touch this kid with a 10 foot pole if I was an NFL team.

Ahh...as mentioned I was not the only one that has said this shit happens. However, I will say everyone was not the fondest of me when we were playing...lol
ACfromtheD 01-06-2006, 05:37 PM And as for him being a productive NFL player - just look at what he did against legit teams this year. He was hyped because the top half of their schedule was pure fluff.
@ Maryland - 14/23 0 TDs 3 INTS
Miami - 8/22 0 Tds 2 INTs
@ FSU - 26/52 1 TD 1 INT
And for his last 7 games including the bowl his TD/INT ratio was 7-8. He is an average QB, no better than Reggie McNeal or Brad Smith.

I think U of D has had a tougher schedule so far. Louisville (lost by 8 ), Oklahoma State, South Carolina, Missouri State, Buffalo (11-1, leading the Mac,lost by 6), and Ohio (Second in the MAC,lost by 1). Even Drake has a decent squad this year. All I saw from Michigan is UCLA and Indiana.
Just ball bustin', but seriously Michigan did have a pretty cupcake pre-conference schedule. Only one good team, UCLA. Oh and Butler...they will be tough in the Horizon this year.
Jethro34 01-06-2006, 06:28 PM He;s been out of high school long enough to declare for the draft, hasn't he? I'm not sure any team takes a chance on him this year - so here's the prediction. He plays in the CFL for 3 years, winning league MVP once. Some desperate NFL team finally picks him up. He stays in the NFL for about 8 years, mostly as a backup. Starts maybe 15 games in his career.

Don't insult Smith or McNeal, both are better runners, and MUCH better passers.
I want McNeal, he is clutch, and a stud, but everyone thinks he should be a WR, and we have enough of those.
DennyMcLain 01-06-2006, 06:39 PM When I found out that Marcus Vick was rolling around campus in a brand new Escalade (courtesy of Michael, I'd think), it was a clear indication that this boy blew ass. I don't care if your brother is famous, you don't shove that shit in everybody's face by steering a land yacht while others on your team can barely afford ten year old F150's.
And what does this say about the older Vick? Is he the same, only with better spin doctors surrounding him?
I'm happy it happened. He's been playing the name game for a while, and now he must wait a year until he's eligible for the draft and think about his actions. If he pulls this shit in the NFL, he a dead man.

If Adrian McPherson gets drafted, Marcus Vick will get drafted. No earlier than the fourth though.

Brad Smith was a Heisman finalist. Not bad.
And you're judging Marcus Vick based on three bad games? That's wacksauce. Miami and Florida State both have GREAT defenses, so they're going to give most QBs in their FIRST YEAR OF STARTING some trouble.
Artis Gilmore 01-06-2006, 07:25 PM Hah. Fucking douche deserved it.

DennyMcLain 01-06-2006, 07:45 PM Maybe the Falcons can pick him up to play behind his big brother.
Why not? He's been doing it indirectly for years.

Virginia Tech kicks Vick off team

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia Tech quarterback Marcus Vick was dismissed from the team Friday, the result of numerous legal transgressions and his unsportsmanlike conduct in the Gator Bowl.
University president Charles Steger announced the dismissal on the same day that coach Frank Beamer met with Vick and his mother in their Hampton Roads home, the school said in a statement. Beamer informed them of the decision during the meeting.
"I'm very disappointed that this didn't have a better ending," coach Frank Beamer said of Marcus Vick (pictured). (Steve Cannon / Associated Press)
Vick, the younger brother of Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick, was suspended from school in 2004 for several legal problems. The junior came under new and intense scrutiny this week after replays showed he stomped on the left calf of Louisville All-American defensive end Elvis Dumervil during the Jan. 2 bowl.
No penalty was called on the play and Vick claimed its was accidental. He further hurt his cause by claiming to have apologized to Dumervil, the NCAA sacks leader, but the Louisville player said no such apology was ever offered.
On Friday, it was revealed that Vick had been stopped for speeding and driving with a revoked or suspended license in Hampton on Dec. 17, Cpl. James West said. Vick's license had been taken away in August 2004 when he was cited for reckless driving and marijuana possession in New Kent County.
Steger suspended Vick from school at that time, and warned that any additional problems would effectively end his time as a member of the Hokies' football team.
"The university provided one last opportunity for Vick to become a citizen of the university and readmitted him in January 2005, with the proviso that any future problems would result in automatic dismissal from the team," Steger said Friday.
Beamer said in a statement that he was disappointed with the outcome. "We wanted what's best for this football team and Marcus," he said. "I certainly wish him the best."
Poll
School officials said in a statement that there would be no further comment until a news conference Saturday. Beamer, Steger and athletic director Jim Weaver, who said the stomping embarrassed the university, were all expected to attend.
A telephone message left on Vick's cell phone was not immediately returned Friday, and his mother, Brenda Boddie, has an unlisted phone number.
Vick said before the Hokies' 35-24 comeback victory in the Gator Bowl that he planned to return for his senior season. Now, his choices are to declare for the NFL Draft by the Jan. 15 deadline or transfer to a Division I-AA school so he can play next season.
Vick entered this season knowing he would face hostility from opposing fans, mostly stemming from his drug arrest and another for serving alcohol to underage girls during the 2003 school year.
He said he was ready for it, but reacted to chants of "rapist" and "child molester" at West Virginia on Oct. 1 by making an obscene gesture in the direction of the crowd. He met with Beamer following that incident and apologized to the team.
In the ACC championship game against Florida State, he drew an unsportsmanlike conduct flag for spiking the ball after a touchdown run with the Hokies trailing, and following the 27-22 loss, walked by reporters after the game without commenting, saying he didn't have to.
He finished that game 26-for-52 for 335 yards with one interception and a fumble near his goal line that teammate Duane Brown recovered. Vick threw one scoring pass and ran for two more touchdowns, but also was sacked six times for minus-35 yards.
On the field, he was often dazzling, but sometimes tried to do too much.
The Hokies started 8-0 and were No. 3 in the polls when they hosted Miami on Nov. 5. But Vick threw two interceptions and fumbled the ball away four times in a 27-7 loss.
This season, he was runner-up to Wake Forest's Chris Barclay as the conference's offensive player of the year, and was voted the first team quarterback on the all-conference team.
In 24 career games, the last 13 starts, Vick was 207-for-346 for 2,868 yards, 19 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He also rushed 184 times for 492 yards and six TDs.
And Denny, as long as your not an ungrateful, insulated cocktease, you're the perfect replacement for Linh.
Unibomber 01-06-2006, 10:29 PM Hah. Fucking douche deserved it.
Agreed.
theMUHMEshow 01-07-2006, 01:49 AM I am saying let the guy learn a system and stick with a team for a few years. remember the guy has only had one full season of college football. Take the situation for what it is worth...the guy has not stuck with the program long enough to say he is going to suck.
4.22 and you have seen his arm strength. LET HIM LEARN under a professional system. Do you guys think he wanted to be in college anyways...he knew this is where he would end up. It is funny to hear someone say I WOULDNT TOUCH THIS KID WITH A TEN FOOT POLE...yeah...when you have someone sitting on the board that can AT LEAST THROW THE BALL AS STRONG AS HARRINGTON and I am being very very sarcastic..yet can run a 4.22 you wouldnt touch him???
If you guys just dont like me, then bash me...but dont be ignorant with your comments...
He fucked up...who here has not got a speeding ticket? Who here that drinks hasnt bought for people underage, friends ect... The guy has legit talent. And you are basing all his numbers on ONE SEASON OF STARTING!!!!!!!! not 4 years like brad smith or reggie mcneal.

IT IS A SPEEDING TICKET!!! Come on...How close have any of you actually been to an athletic program at the college level? Because it seems like you guys know your shit but then when I read what you are saying in this thread it seems like you guys feel he should get his head cut off because he drove on a suspended license. Do you know what kind of shit happens to players NOT NAMED VICK and never seeps out into the mainstream media? For the love of god Daniel Horton beat his ole lady and he is still balling for UMich! There are endless stories of fights, beatings, theft, joyriding ect... where players do not get kicked off the team.
This is getting blown way out of proportion because his last name is VICK.
Artermis 01-07-2006, 11:17 AM Muhme slow down.
I am not saying he needs to be kicked off for those things. Those things plus the bowl incident have to be the final straw.
The AD or President said when they allowed Vick back after the underage drinking thing and a couple other things, that he had no more chances.
So they did the only thing they could do and not look like total tools and that was to kick him off the team.
Speeding and suspended license was the final nail in the coffin, not the main reason for kicking him off.

No not a speeding ticket:
A DUI, DWI, Suspended license, driving w/ the suspended license, serving alchohol to minors, sexual assault(where the assaulted wouldn't testify, but a ton of evidence saying Marcus was guilty was there), aggravated assault, and all the on field bullshit he does, and the whining/skipping practice/bullshit he does off the field.
I can see why he should be on the team, and should be picked immediately by the Lions.

Willie Williams- the 10 arrests thing
But most players don't get arrested 10 times and suspended for a year, then kicked off the team, at least not ones who actually play. Maybe that's why it's a story, not the name.
What about that OSU LB who was suspended for a year for stepping on a guy(i.e. what Vick did most, wait 2nd most recently), without the priors of Vick.
Methinks that Vick gets it easy from his name, not hard.

Marcus Vick arrested after saying he'll go proESPN.com news services
Two days after declaring his intention to enter the NFL draft, Marcus Vick was arrested on Monday and charged with three counts of brandishing a firearm, the Suffolk, Va., police department said in a statement.
Vick, 21, turned himself in after police in Suffolk, Va., issued a warrant for his arrest, saying Vick pointed a weapon at a teenage male and two others in the parking lot at a McDonalds on Sunday night, the statement said.
The junior quarterback had been kicked off the team at Virginia Tech on Friday for his moves on and off the field, including an incident in the Jan. 2 Toyota Gator Bowl, when he was caught on tape stomping on the left calf of Louisville All-American defensive end Elvis Dumervil after a tackle.
Vick was suspended from school in 2004 because of several legal problems, and came under intense scrutiny this week after replays of his actions against Dumervil. Vick claimed it was accidental, but hurt his cause by claiming to have apologized to Dumervil, the NCAA sacks leader. Dumervil said he received no such apology.
The last straw came Friday, even as Beamer was preparing to offer Vick the option of accepting a two-game suspension or deciding to leave Virginia Tech.
A fax sent to Steger's office disclosed that Vick had been stopped for driving 38 mph in a 25 mph zone and driving with a revoked or suspended license on Dec. 17. Vick had told Beamer about the ticket for driving on a suspended license on Dec. 19, Beamer said, but had never mentioned to anyone that he'd also been caught speeding.
Vick's license had been taken away in August 2004 when he was cited for reckless driving and marijuana possession, but had been reinstated until a friend driving a car owned by Vick was pulled over and found to not have insurance, Beamer said.
In 24 career games, Vick threw for 2,868 yards, 19 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He also ran 184 times for 492 yards and six TDs.
A $10,000 bond was set for Vick.
