Respect calls in the nba when stripped down to the bare naked basics, to me seem to be nothing more but a justification for bias referee's can hide behind. If you believe this is true, should it be a bigger issue then what it is to the non respected teams / players?

Maybe.
I have a bigger problem with giving all the calls to the home team than I do with "respect" calls though.
That is my biggest pet peeve with the NBA.
I'm not going to go into my full length diatribe on the subject though, I don't want to derail your topic, Fekz.
It goes both ways and, IMO, evens out over the year.
Guys like Dwyane Wade and Ginobili get respect calls because they're known as slashers and slashers get fouled a lot. Sometimes, the fouls that are called are complete and total jokes (many of which we witnessed in the playoffs last year).
But, it goes both ways. Chauncey draws a TON of BS hand-check fouls when driving because he's a good actor and he has a good reputation. Ben also draws a bunch of fouls when he's set up for an offensive rebound and gets nudged. These are the respect calls that Pistons fans don't complain about.
Simply put, respect is earned. I don't mind the respect calls, unless they're really blatantly wrong, because they help us as much as hurt us.

Ben also gets a good amount of No-Calls when he gets blocks that other defenders would get whistled for all day. Love it.
