TSN names Stern 'Most Powerful Person in Sports'

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- NBA commissioner David Stern is the "Most Powerful Person in Sports," according to The Sporting News' annual top 100 list.
The 17th annual list featured sports commissioners and television presidents in the top 10. George Bodenheimer, the president of ESPN and ABC Sports, was second, followed by NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue, baseball commissioner Bud Selig and NASCAR chairman and CEO Brian France.
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman moved to No. 6 from 40th last year, followed by Dick Ebersol, chairman, NBC Universal Sports and Olympics; Sean McManus, president, CBS News and CBS Sports; David Hill, chairman, FOX Sports; Brian Roberts, chairman and CEO, Comcast.
Tiger Woods (No. 27) and Yao Ming (No. 45) were the first athletes on the list, followed by Shaquille O'Neal (No. 69); Jeff Gordon (No. 73); Tim Duncan (No. 74); Matt Leinhart (No. 81); and Michelle Wie (No. 93).
McManus moved up from 31st last year, while New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner dropped 24 spots to No. 39, one spot ahead of former baseball player Jose Canseco.
Other notables in the top 30 were Phil Knight (No. 14); Steve Bornstein, president and CEO of the NFL Network (No. 21); Sens. John McCain and Jim Bunning and U.S. Rep. Tom Davis (No. 24); and Jack Roush, owner and CEO of Roush Racing (No. 26).
