View Full Version : New Tech Rule?

Forgive me if this has been posted before. However According Marc Stein there was a new harsher penalty clause added in the new CBA regarding techs. Apparently after 15 techs the fines are are bigger and you can be suspended 1 game for every one or two techs after 15.

I Haven't seen this in print but thought I would share. I think it is BS. I could understand if you are getting thrown out of games because of multiple techs but who cares if a guy gets 1 tech every 4 games. If a guy shows restraint after the first tech isn't the threat of being thrown out deterence enough?

I mean look at Sheed vs. Fortson both have 7 tech (most in the NBA) but Fortson has been tossed 3 times Sheed zero. Why should Sheed be penalized the same. If Stein is correct Sheed will be suspended atleast 3 times at his current pace, and the likes of Wade and Mourning will also suffer at least 1 game.

I hope that those suspensions aren't in effect during the playoffs.

For every one thing David Stern does right, he finds 3 other things to fuck up.

I have no problem with this rule. It might stop some of the crying that all teams do, but the Pistons seem to do more than others and is the one thing that bugs the shit out of me. Play the game, everyone knows you are great, but you do foul and need to get over themselves sometimes.

Heard about it. Call it the "Darko Development Plan" - at Sheed's rate of getting techs this year, he'll miss about five games this season

I guess this is still part of him trying to get rid of the "Thug Image," and I credit him for that. Maybe he thinks kids will see the punishment that the players get for talking back to authority figures.

Would any of us be upset about this rule if we didn't have Sheed on this team?

I don't have a problem with the rule as long as it's not in effect during the playoffs. I couldn't care less if Sheed is suspended for a couple games late in the season because it will open up minutes for DD in preparation for the playoffs. But if he (or someone else for that matter) is suspended for the playoffs, I will be real pissed.

PS: 100th post.

im sorry but i have a problem with this rule. it was purposely done for one player. Sheed is the only player even remotely adressable in that clause. basically they feel he's getting over grabbing one tech a game.

odlly enough most of the foul and tech rules of the last decade were made based on the Pistons sucess. we win another title and they change the perimeter defense rules.

its only a lil' bit annoying, but nevertheless they need to lay off all these rule changes. people talk about image and high school players hurting the league(though i agree that something gets fundamentally lost when high schoolers flood the nba), but they never factor in another possible helping factor which is all the new "make the game softer" foul calls along with various other retarded ideas(including bringing the zone in to help bad defense/good offense teams).

i finally saw the kobe play and i must say that was some dirty shit. dude wasnt even driving to score. he dished the ball out then the kobmeister clobbered him. if the grizz have any heart as a team then kobe better not leave his feet coming to the hole against them, because i would clobber the fuck out of him right when he's in flight. i'd stick my foot out on jumpers to try and sprain his ankle. whatever can be done.

its one thing to be physical, but head hunting a guy in that situation wasnt all that imposing. it was just cheap. you wanna send a message, try actually stopping him with some defense in your porous defensive squad. :?

but who would it apply to outside of him and fortson? though fortson would get suspended anyways via the flagrant foul rules he likes to break.

I love what sheed brings to the team, but I for one would love to see him STFU sometimes. It is annoying to see him get a T at stupid times because he is not man enough to keep his mouth shut. No matter how much he doesnt believe, he fouls and it is going to get called.

His whining is almost enough of a distraction that I have to turn it until he is on the bench because he is going too crazy.

The game is already geared towards the "stars". I wouldnt even watch the crap that the NBA passes off, except I like the Pistons, really Chauncey and Ben.

They keep shoveling more crap on the TV and pass it off as basketball, but really, it is not even close to what it was 10 years ago and 20 years ago, forgetaboutit.

i also want ben to make free throws and i cant stand the early 3's by chauncy.....but thats part of their game and who they are. sheed came with all the proper warnings on package. You cant have your cake and eat it too. sheed's play attitude and swagger along with his style of play feeds off his need to jaw jack with the refs. its like telling Chad Johnson not to talk or do dances in the end zone. you cant take that away and expect to get the same guy whose become vital to your team.

Some stuff from Hoopshype:

"The talk among some Cavs players after the game was just how much the Pistons complain to officials about calls, a reputation that has been getting around the league this season. Saturday, both Rasheed Wallace and Antonio McDyess were hit with technicals for complaining about calls, even though the Cavs were called for more fouls and the Pistons took more free throws. The irony/coincidence is that the Pistons have had the fewest fouls called on them in the NBA this season and have taken 140 more free throws than the opposition." Akron Beacon Journal

I agree. Everbody whines too much these days. Now they need to start wistling the stars for complaining too. Why are Pierce and Wade allowed to bitch and Sheed can't? I have no problem with the rule. They just need to stop coddling the stars.
