View Full Version : COVID-19 Glenn 03-22-2020, 02:52 PM Thought I better say goodbye while I can still type. Glenn 03-22-2020, 02:52 PM I don’t have any symptoms or anything, just feeling like death is imminent. Uncle Mxy 03-22-2020, 04:01 PM It's hard not to get that "end of days" vibe. Mr. Oobir 03-23-2020, 12:05 PM I've burned all of my PTO this past week and a half, but I work at a hospital and can't stay away forever. I've been shaking every day and it's currently noon and I've been up since yesterday. I think I'm going to cry for a bit after finally logging off. If I could stand the taste of alcohol I would have drank myself to death by now. Other than that, doing okay. Hope my parents don't die. Glenn 03-23-2020, 01:02 PM Hang in there, Oobir. The four of us need you! Mr. Oobir 03-23-2020, 06:15 PM Feeling kinda lossy, you guys. Timone 03-24-2020, 03:03 PM Feeling kinda lossy, you guys. https://i.imgur.com/8qet2Y3.jpg Uncle Mxy 03-29-2020, 01:18 AM A couple friends of mine are working at hospitals and dealing with COVID-19. They've both told me that the hardest part is, so often, they can do nothing. Until the tests come back, the suffering patients in medical limbo. You cant' actually treat until you have a diagnosis, but you have to otherwise care for them as if they had a positive diagnosis. Two weeks ago, another friend's close co-worker had a FALSE POSITIVE COVID-19 test, with the scarcity of tests meaning it took awhile to get COVID-19 mostly ruled out. Due to this, he burned a day at Beaumont to get tested. Fortunately, he's negative, but now he's withdrawn and freaked and I can't just go over and try and cheer him up. Where I work can't decide whether to pretend to be business as usual, or not. Every deadline, promise, and projection that's weeks out is bullshit. I had to tell someone that no, people won't bet going into COVID-19 evacuated facilities just because they're really curious about something minor. At least the big boss has some empathy. Timone 03-29-2020, 06:05 PM ^ Horrible. Mr. Oobir 04-03-2020, 09:28 PM Gonna be working from home! Thankfully I don't do any patient care, so there's no need for me to be physically present at the hospital. Things are looking up for my fam's health. Hope everyone here is able to stay safe. I would delete that post of mine up there if I still could. Uncle Mxy 04-04-2020, 06:27 PM One of my friends who had been working with patients is now in a two-week self-quarantine. :( Vinny 04-04-2020, 07:58 PM One of my best friends just got moved from his cushy gig as a Post-Op nurse for ortho surgeries to a night nurse in the ICU. Uncle Mxy 04-05-2020, 03:06 AM An acquaintance, in hospitals and the medical system for other dire reasons since Christmas, died from COVID-19. He might not have survived what he was dealing with in any event, but the COVID-19 is what ultimately did him in. He likely wouldn't have contracted it if he weren't in a hospital setting, but you never _know_ with such things. Timone 04-07-2020, 06:43 PM https://uproxx.com/prowrestling/hulk-hogan-coronavirus-vaccine-comments-jesus/ Uncle Mxy 04-08-2020, 01:59 PM https://uproxx.com/prowrestling/hulk-hogan-coronavirus-vaccine-comments-jesus/ I'm sorry Iron Sheik, but the Hulkster is NOT A JABRONI. Uncle Mxy 04-11-2020, 10:02 PM I just found out that a family friend has COVID-19. Like my acquaintance, she's sickly these days, almost surely got it from hospital exposure. :( Uncle Mxy 04-16-2020, 11:57 AM One of my friends who had been working with patients is now in a two-week self-quarantine. :( At basically two weeks in, she's fine. However, the other friend of mine who works with patients is now in the hospital with COVID-19, and his girlfriend (who's sort of a former employee of mine) is also COVID-19 positive. :( Glenn 04-16-2020, 12:51 PM Wonder if Tahoe made the trip to the Zombie Walk in Lansing yesterday? Uncle Mxy 04-16-2020, 01:00 PM I wonder how many in the Zombie Walk were infected with COVID-19. Uncle Mxy 04-25-2020, 03:50 AM I just found out that a family friend has COVID-19. Like my acquaintance, she's sickly these days, almost surely got it from hospital exposure. :( And, the family friend is dead. :( She was sick for a decade, but the fucking COVID-19 was what did her in at the end. At the point she died, had she lived, they would've had to amputate her arms and legs. On a lighter note, The Onion posted this a month ago: https://local.theonion.com/man-just-buying-one-of-every-cleaning-product-in-case-t-1842493766?utm_medium=SocialMarketing&utm_source=Twitter&utm_content=Main&utm_campaign=SF EVANSTON, WY—Throwing bottles of bleach, ammonia, and Drano into a cart at his local grocery store, area man Troy Mitchell was reportedly stocking up on one of every cleaning product he could find Wednesday in case President Donald Trump announces it is a coronavirus cure. “I got toilet bowl cleaner, carpet cleaner, Swiffer WetJet refills—you name it—just so me and my family will be ready if the president announces one of these things can treat Chinese virus,” said Mitchell, indiscriminately throwing containers of laundry detergent, Scrubbing Bubbles, grout whitener, steel wool, Febreze, Tilex mold and mildew remover, and laptop screen wipes into the cart, the contents of which rang up to $2,513.67 at checkout. “I’m not getting caught without some oven degreaser should Trump say it’s going to save us, so I better go ahead and grab me a bottle. After this, I’m hitting the hardware store to pick up a 5-gallon bucket of roof sealant to make sure I’m prepared in the event that turns out to be what gets rid of the Wuhan. Could just be 10 or 20 squirts of Windex into each nostril. You never know what might work in a pinch!” At press time, neighbors confirmed Mitchell had been found unresponsive on the floor of his bathroom with several empty aerosol cans of Rust-Oleum wax-and-tar-removing solvent by his head. And now it's real news. And it's fucking pathetic that "our president is a total dumbass fucktard" is "a lighter note". Glenn 04-25-2020, 09:25 AM Sorry, Mxy. Timone 04-25-2020, 05:05 PM Christ. Glenn 08-01-2020, 02:13 PM Tried watching a little sports last night for the first time in forever. There was a degree of novelty for a few minutes, but I’m just not feeling it. Watched Harden flop around like a fish on a dock, and then flipped over and caught the last few innings of the Tigers/Reds game. Was surprised to see Tigers have a winning record. Matt Shepard called them “the biggest surprise in all of baseball”, which seemed like hype at the time, but maybe that’s true. They cut to C-Mo in the studio and his nose was running like nonstop. He kept wiping the snot away with his bare hand, so finally I had to dip out. Stephen Miller. Uncle Mxy 10-16-2020, 12:02 PM Will there be a COVID-19 lockdown before the election in Michigan? The numbers seem to suggest one should happen. The politics likely suggest otherwise. Mr. Oobir 01-06-2021, 10:22 PM Gonna get my covid vaccine monkey juice shot tomorrow, working at a hospital during a pandemic is finally starting to pay off! Uncle Mxy 01-07-2021, 05:56 AM I get to go to my first virtual funeral today. Virtual due to COVID-19. Cause of death is COVID-19. Tahoe 01-13-2021, 06:03 PM It’s a bad flu. Vinny 01-14-2021, 04:45 PM It’s a bad flu. This is a very bad take. Vinny 01-14-2021, 04:46 PM Just got the first dose of the vacc. I'm invincible now. Mr. Oobir 01-14-2021, 05:07 PM The wait for the second dose makes time crawl so slowly, the past week has felt like a month. Just two more weeks to go. Tahoe 01-14-2021, 05:10 PM My anti-Vaxxer posts caused one of my twitter timeouts. Gov. Whitmer used extraordinary executive power to issue sweeping policies that dictated when people were allowed to leave their homes, where they were allowed to travel and what they were allowed to do outside their homes. Whatever interest there is in letting public officials speak plainly when helping formulate policy, it simply cannot compete with the public?s need to know what informed this unprecedented government action. In denying access to certain information (including material as innocuous as working group e-mail addresses), the university cited exemptions relating to procedures relating to the physical safety of its property and employees. It strains credulity to argue that requesting records somehow jeopardizes the safety of these interests. These exemptions are designed to protect a public body?s response to terrorism, cybersecurity, and emergency response plans, as well as passwords and other security data. We never asked for information that a reasonable person would consider remotely related to these aims. It's not the reasonable people who'd make death threats against various entities involved in COVID-19 response. The info on who was consulted on science and what they said should be public, but people shouldn't form lynch mobs because they don't like science. He didn't even know he had it. He was just found in bed dead. Given the meds out in the bathroom, he likely thought he had a cold. But, the medical examiner backtracked it to COVID-19 and lack of oxygen. He was quite healthy, apart from shitty hearing (occupational hazard). This was totally out of the blue, and still pretty shocking. There's some people whose voices you just hear in your head, and I hear his. Uncle Mxy 12-15-2021, 05:31 AM https://www.axios.com/facebook-bosworth-covid-misinformation-89a751dc-6875-4ad3-8103-33cd10b9972c.html Facebook exec blames society for COVID misinformation The thing I wonder is -- what was flu vaccination and misinformation like, pre-Facebook, pre-COVID-19? My sense was that it was just as bad, that social media didn't really move the needle because bullshit's always been all around. But, I don't really have great data on that. What about HPV vaccination %s and FUD -- is it comparable? Glenn 12-15-2021, 05:36 AM That sucks May, sorry to hear this. Vinny 12-15-2021, 12:04 PM That's awful Mxy, sorry to hear it Glenn 08-07-2022, 09:21 AM Today is day 9 for my son. Still had a 102 temp when he went to bed last night. I wake up every day hoping nobody else in the house has it. Uncle Mxy 08-07-2022, 10:13 AM Best wishes... hopefully, his treatment plan starts working. Timone 03-18-2024, 05:43 PM Had it last year and I'm pretty sure it's why I've been sick lately, too.. Uncle Mxy 03-19-2024, 06:03 AM I've been formally diagnosed with some "long COVID-19" effects. It's relatively mild congestive crap at this point, after some proper treatment. But apparently, it's quite real and not just my getting prematurely old and falling apart watching the Pistons lose so damn much, which seemed like a reasonable hypothesis at the time. Finding a doctor who saw "my having COVID-19" and "my suddenly snoring and needing a CPAP after" as related (well DUH!) has helped. Vinny 03-19-2024, 11:35 AM My "just don't go out in public ever again" strategy has been working so far. Glenn 03-19-2024, 07:57 PM I agree with Vinny. Uncle Mxy 03-20-2024, 04:33 AM The weird thing was that my COVID-19 symptoms weren't bad. I honestly thought I had a cold until I tested positive. No fever, no loss of smell, no obvious fatigue, no COVID toe or belly button or any of that crap. I just had lingering crud that would not go away, which was misdiagnosed as bronchitis/pneumonia, then down a stupid path that led me to "get a second opinion from someone who annoys me less". Mr. Oobir 04-14-2024, 06:42 AM My "just don't go out in public ever again" strategy has been working so far. Yeah! Vinny 04-14-2024, 04:07 PM Oobie!!!!!!!!!!!! Mr. Oobir 04-14-2024, 06:21 PM I thought this site had passed away! Vinny 04-14-2024, 08:53 PM Back from the dead!
