View Full Version : TRADE: Pistons get Tobias Harris for Jennings/Ilyasova
Glenn 02-16-2016, 02:19 PM @MikeAScotto
Sources: Detroit Pistons have discussed a deal to acquire Tobias Harris from the Orlando Magic for Brandon Jennings and Ersan Ilyasova.
Glenn 02-16-2016, 02:40 PM Done deal, per @vgoodshill
Glenn 02-16-2016, 02:49 PM No problem seeing Ilyasova go, he was a weak link. Jennings was never going to be a big part of a contending team, IMO.
Harris is basically a free agent signing for next year that we get to use early.
Glenn 02-16-2016, 02:52 PM De-escalating salary is nice, too
Tobias Harris
$16,000,000
$17,200,000
$16,000,000
$14,800,000
Glenn 02-16-2016, 02:53 PM Always seemed like a bit of a chucker when I've watched him, but that's SVG's style I guess.
Glenn 02-16-2016, 02:54 PM Now we just wait for Joe Johnson to get bought out and grab him at the minimum, lol
Poor Tahoe.
New kid needs to hit threes like last year, not like his is currently.
Playing the most minutes on the team per game but offensive output is down from last year (not shooting as much and missing his 3s).
Glenn 02-16-2016, 02:57 PM SVG gets a guy back he knows and Skiles gets two that he had in Milwaukee.
That Jennings/Skiles dynamic must be interesting.
But hey, no state sales tax in FLA.
Tahoe 02-16-2016, 03:09 PM Glad we did something. It looks like he's about the same size as MM. I read he's a SF or PF. Seems like a SF at 6'8". So does he just start in Illy's place?
Tahoe 02-16-2016, 03:15 PM Nice contract. No sarcasm.
Timone 02-16-2016, 03:19 PM Thanks for that fun 7-game winning streak or whatever it was, Brandon.

Can you check and see how many games he's had over 20pts for me?
Tahoe 02-16-2016, 03:28 PM Morris 36mins, 13.8pts, 5.1rebounds
Harris 33mins, 13.7pts, 7 rebounds.
Damn close. Harris is 23.
Glenn 02-16-2016, 03:30 PM Too lazy to look up his stats, but wasn't there a string of games last year (?) where Harris was putting up triple-doubles or something? I might not be remembering that right. Maybe it was big rebounding numbers or something.
Tahoe 02-16-2016, 03:36 PM I don't see any triple doubles. I might not be reading the stats right though.

What you're going to want to look for is double digit numbers in three of the following categories: points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks

Glenn 02-16-2016, 03:45 PM Try to not read that in his voice.
Gla, I think you are remembering Harris hitting clutch shots last year.
6 games @ 20pts or more T. Only 4 specifically "over 20".

I just went to this link and looked under TRIDBL column for his career.

Glenn 02-16-2016, 04:17 PM Almost as many DBLDBLs this year (10) as he had last year already (11).
Glenn 02-16-2016, 04:20 PM I was only off a few years, but I think this April 2013 stuff is what I was remembering

@badboysremix
Udrih might be available for free. Not sure he's enough though
Glenn 02-16-2016, 05:23 PM Oh, he's enough.
Vinny 02-16-2016, 05:40 PM I don't hate it but it doesn't really make any sense. Ersan was a decent fit, playing hard defense, rebounds well and stretching the d. Now we replace him with a smaller version of himself who's a more skilled scorer but relatively undersized 4. And Reggie's been getting beaten up as it is and now we have no backup? They must see a lot of growth coming for Tobias which I'm down with. I think it makes them much worse short term though.
I also feel like we now have three tweener forwards and no true 3 or 4, though Stanley will be able to fake it at the 3 a few more years.
You don't think Johnson is a real 3?

Tahoe 02-16-2016, 06:36 PM Seems like TH can create his own shot underneath and is more athletic than Illy. So its an upgrade. I haven't had the time to look up Illy's contract to compare to TH. edit...just did. I knew it was more for TH, but didn't think it was that much more. Holy shit.
There is NOT a lot, if any, negatives to this trade. A slight improvement at least and who knows, maybe we'll get lucky and he fits our roster a lot better and kind of breaks out with us.

Lowe agrees with Vin that we are worse today than we were yesterday but loves the trade for us long term and overall.
Vinny 02-16-2016, 06:57 PM You don't think Johnson is a real 3?
I think he is but he's a big boy already. I think our best case scenario is he evolves into a Matrixesque combo forward playing as an oversized 3 most of the time......which I guess is fine.
The more I think about this the more I don't mind it, I actually think we'll end up seeing MM playing more at the 4 and all three guys really splitting all 96 forward minutes.

The negative might be the contract. ???

But I don't know the game, right?
Tahoe 02-17-2016, 09:05 AM ^ Read that. I've come to the realization, again, that Detroit isn't that great FA destination. Going to have to build a better team through draft and trades. A really good FA might be a final piece, but doubt we'll get anyone to come here to help rebuild.
Do we have room for another max contract? And then sign Dre, go over cap, with Bird rights? Or did RJ and TH chew up most of our space?
Tahoe 02-17-2016, 04:02 PM So we're at 70m for next year before we sign Dre. Cap is expected to go to 89m in one post I just read. The 70m does not include Tolly. So a player will need to be added, but it seems like we could sign a max FA in the offseason and then go over for Dre.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Tahoe 02-17-2016, 05:29 PM "There wasn't a doubt in anybody's mind on our staff that this was a better player, on a better contract, than anybody we'd be able to get this summer with what's coming up," Van Gundy said. "You've got to know who you are, and we aren't in the position yet, that with 30 teams having money, that we're going to be on the top of everyone's list on the free-agent market. So to be able to get good, young players who are locked in is the ideal for us."
Uncle Mxy 02-17-2016, 11:49 PM I like the move. I have a hunch that this kid does better with a coach other than Skiles. It sure as shit beats reuniting the Morris twins.
