This is really disappointing compared to Season 1.

Glad I haven't watched.

I think it's still good, but only a 7 or 7.5/10 rather than the 9.5 or so / 10 I'd give the first season. First season was always going to be hard to live up to.

All that being said, I'll give it the rest of the season before passing final judgment. Things could still really pick up.

The overacting in last night's episode was just too much.

This is mostly on point. (spoilers)

The only part I really disliked was:

"Bezzerides runs through the building, where people are still milling around despite that THERE IS A MASSIVE GUNFIGHT GOING ON OUTSIDE.. Bezzerides is now chasing an SUV on foot, and somehow is keeping up while a fresh set of thugs is shooting at her. She's as fast as a car!"

That was silly thought the car was having to wind through an alley, from my recollection.

The rest wasn't any more or less realistic than other stuff we see on TV. It was still suspenseful for me and I'm confident clever writing will begin to show through toward the end of the season, similar to how season 1 played out. I could be wrong, but who knows at this point?

I think the explosion on the top floor was foreshadowing of a either a coverup of someone's hideout or a cook lab, or something similar to that.

We'll see.

Three more eps until this shit gets rebooted. Hope they try harder next time.

I thought the last episode was fantastic, one of the best of the series.

I feel like you've gone in trying to hate every episode due to the actors so no point in debating. The only one that's not selling it for me is Vince.

It definitely was the best episode so far. It's really strange because they're having different directors direct these episodes from episode-to-episode, and you can certainly tell the difference. This episode almost seemed like a completely different show. It's so disjointed from the rest of them it had kind of a 60s James Bond feel to it - even the music was completely different. At times it almost had a Goodfellas feel to it. One of the strangest TV series seasons I can remember.

They should get the chick from the AT&T commershes for the next season.

I don't disagree with that, it is somewhat disjointed. That musical score for the last episode was great.

Yup... meh. Nothing mindblowing.

6.5 or 7/10 season... definitely disappointing compared to last. A couple of great high points, combined with a bunch of meh and a bunch of confusion.

Everything I know about this show is summarized in one paragraph in this article. http://theconcourse.deadspin.com/true-detective-season-two-lines-ranked-1723048186

True Detective Season Two Lines, Ranked
15. “Thing is, you ain’t that thing no more. What you used to was.”
The conventional wisdom is this whole enterprise was toast without Matthew McConaughey to sell it and Cary Fukunaga to frame it and nobody around to tell Nic Pizzolatto No or Please don’t do that or I’m telling you for the last time or You can’t have it back or Sorry dogg I threw your typewriter into the ocean. But the truth is there has never been a more inevitable backlash to a season of television in television history: Season one was a cool little show that got relentlessly overinflated by the conspiracy-theorist internet and bummed everyone out with its LOL Sorry Just A Crazy Redneck Guy anticlimax and terrorized everyone with a good half-year of intolerable #truedetectiveseason2 jokes, and consequently, we had it in for this thing from the beginning, whether it sucked or not. Or, to put it another way,

I lolled at this

But since having every single one of our main characters die would be just a little too depressing, Ani makes it out of the country, with only a new haircut and her daring sense of do-good to sustain her. Only when we see what kind of life she’s carved out for herself (much of which was spent trying to get more evidence on this case) we also discover that she had Ray’s baby (surprise!) and that she’s raising him on the run with Jordan and that one guy who was still loyal to Frank. So I guess that’s kind of a happy ending for them? Jordan got a baby after all? Ani found the truth sort of? That one henchman got to visit Venezuela?

Excited. Like that dude from the Kevin Spacey's last hurrah. Now they've done it well once and done it poorly once so they should know where they stand. Still never seen and episode. That' might change tonight.

Kinda surprised they want to roll out a new ep vs the Super Boring Bowl (ha!) but it works for me, see ya, suckers!
