View Full Version : Pistons in free agency this summer
Glenn 05-15-2015, 11:57 AM Anybody left here with some cap skillz?
Assuming Monroe is as good as gone and we keep Reggie, need a big and a SF, right?
Don't know if we'll get a starter where we're drafting, so any possibilities in free agency?
We won't get any of these guys, but I like this "heart, head, wallet" format.

Glenn 05-15-2015, 12:00 PM Max offer sheet to Draymond? Jimmy Butler is more of a SG, but he is 6'7" so maybe he could play the 3. We'd have to throw mad money at either of course.
Glenn 05-15-2015, 12:01 PM Here's a good link, too:

Glenn 05-15-2015, 12:03 PM Thad Young has an ETO and is only 26
We need a starting SG, too. KCP maxes out at Tony Allen (not even that) not Kawhi Leonard.
As for getting a starter, do we have a starter that was picked higher than 8th (our current spot)?
Jackson - 24th
Drum - 9th
Monroe - 7th
KCP - 8th
SF - lol
So one guy. One spot.
Not really a question of it we get a starter but how bad a starter we get.
Glenn 05-15-2015, 12:18 PM Seems like they've gone down the KCP path so far, it didn't even occur to me that he would be a candidate to be replaced. Maybe I need to stop thinking like this is the Dumars age where marketing usually trumped skill.
I'm not a draft or college hoops guy, so I don't know if there is a starting caliber big or SF at #8-10 or if we're looking at projects.
Glenn 05-15-2015, 12:20 PM Jackson - 24th
Drum - 9th
Monroe - 7th
KCP - 8th
SF - lol
None of those guys were opening night starters as rookies, right?
That's true. Ben started Monroe's first game, Maxiell started Drum's first game, Chuancey (unless you want to call Bynum the SG for that game) started KCP's first game and you know Westbrook for Jackson in OKC.
I guess Tayshaun could start over whoever we draft in game 1 but I think it's pretty safe to say everyone involved with the pick is expecting to be drafting a starting SF.
That bleacher report link says people (Gasol) would want to play in SA because of Tony Parker.
Tony, 60 games a year, 15 pts/game, 5 assists a game on the Spurs, Parker.

You really think Tay plays another game with Pistons?
Glenn 05-15-2015, 02:26 PM I just hope we don't overpay Danny Green. #smh
I'm guessing that Magic would match on Tobias Harris, but he'd be a great fit, IMO.
Haven't even looked at Tay's contract (because why the hell would I) or Bulter's for that matter. But now that I think about it, Boston was going to buy him out so he was probably on the last year of it. The point was just that anyone might start game 1 but certainly the plan going into the draft is to come out with a starting SF and they are at the spot (or higher) where the rest of the starters were chosen.
Also, stop arguing both sides of the point.
Glenn 05-15-2015, 03:28 PM Wasn't arguing anything, was trying to discuss it with you lol
Glenn 05-15-2015, 09:52 PM DeMarre Carroll (Unrestricted) seems like a realistic signing.
Like all these guys, would really have to overpay.
Glenn 06-25-2015, 03:30 PM What do you guys think of Aminu? Seems like a better backup than starter, no? Just opted out in Dallas.
Vinny 06-25-2015, 08:20 PM Please no starty Aminu.
Timone 06-27-2015, 05:41 PM Hearing things about 'bias Harris
Surprised you don't want him as a starter Gla. Gives off a very Gortat vibe to me.

I don't follow, you mean in that he's a damn near elite center? No?
"damn near elite" still means "not elite" yes?
Glenn 06-29-2015, 06:25 PM Closer to elite than "not starting caliber" which I recall being your stance on Gortat, if memory serves.
I don't think those quotation marks are appropriate.
BubblesTheLion 07-01-2015, 07:26 PM Are the Pistons going to participate in this free agency or just wait until only shit players are left?

Aka "just like last year"
Uncle Mxy 07-02-2015, 07:45 AM The megabucks for mediocre players "but it's ok given how the salary cap is rising" will bite a lot of people in the ass.
My hunch is that we made a higher offer to Danny Green than what the Spurs did, and that we didn't make a $15 million/year offer to Carroll.
We'll see if we have the balls to chase RFAs.
Glenn 07-02-2015, 09:44 AM We'll see if we have the balls to chase RFAs.
Honest question, does it really take balls to do so at this point? What is there to lose?
I again find myself in the camp of using the cap space for trades instead of overpaying B or C-list free agents, much like we should of instead of signing Ben Gordon & CV.
I would have probably taken the offer the Kings gave the Sixers, too.
Vinny 07-02-2015, 04:21 PM Danny Granger is still alive?

Uncle Mxy 07-02-2015, 04:47 PM Baynes? What... Joel Anthony wanted too much $??!
MikeMyers 07-02-2015, 04:49 PM Another 9th draft pick
BubblesTheLion 07-03-2015, 09:25 AM Ooooh, I like any trade where you can get more value back than what you paid for it.
Not that anyone really doubted it, but we certainly are starting to look like a 1 in 4 out roster.
Glenn 07-04-2015, 08:46 AM I haven't seen Baynes play much. Which means he's probably a good fit here.
#scrubsRus
DrRay11 07-04-2015, 04:15 PM I keep wanting to come back and follow basketball but we're still going to suck you guys. Still pissed about the perimeter defense rule changes after 2004
