Fuck Joe Dumars. The only time a GM has ate himself out of a job. Timone 05-20-2014, 10:20 PM :langlois: http://www.nba.com/pistons/features/pistons-lose-their-pick-cavs-jump-no-1-again Higherwarrior 05-20-2014, 11:17 PM this is the worst case scenario obviously. I was for some reason optimistic that we could sneak into the top 3 and even steal the #1. but of course the odds wouldn't allow that, would they? no- instead they let a team with an even WORSE chance at the #1, Cleveland, win the #1 again. 3rd time in 4 years. I'm not into conspiracy theories but...... anyway even if we only ended up with #8, I'd feel pretty good. there are some awesome players in this class and even at #8 we could land a guy who could really push our franchise forward. hell even stauskus is IMO a guy who could be agreat pickup especially as we build around Drummond. getting the #1 would have changed the fortune of this franchise for the next 10 year +. instead we of course struck out and end up with NOTHING. I'm generally an optimistic person but this was our chance. now with the way this team is constructed, we will be doomed to mediocrity until we are consistently terrible enough to get top level talent. hate to say that but it's true. we can add a nice FA and hope to make a good trade. but the reality is in today's nba you need an elite superstar and generally that player needs to be a wing. so even if Drummond becomes shaq, we need an elite SF or SG and we can't acquire one if we're drafting in the teens or early 20s every year. I fully expect us to make the playoffs and maybe even make a nice FA signing that will help us make some noise. some internal growth by our current players would help a ton. but without an elite perimeter player- like an Andrew wiggins type talent!- then we'll only ever be good enough to make the playoffs and lose in round 2. if we're lucky. get ready for 10 years of mediocrity since we have too much talent to strip the team down and get a top lotto pick but we don't have enough talent to truly compete. this was as sad a day in recent pistons history, given how the franchise went from the possibility to elevating to an eventual top tier team, to now being doomed to mediocrity. Glenn 05-21-2014, 06:26 AM Should have never flirted with Isiah. #HumanTikiDoll BubblesTheLion 05-21-2014, 09:45 AM I'm not salty about this because the Pistons were going to suck no matter who they picked and they were going to lose a pick no matter what in the next draft. Get ready for the fire sale. Uncle Mxy 05-21-2014, 10:29 AM I'm trying to think positively -- perhaps the Cavs can screw up #1 two years in a row. DrRay11 05-21-2014, 10:36 AM I'm not salty about this because the Pistons were going to suck no matter who they picked and they were going to lose a pick no matter what in the next draft. Get ready for the fire sale. Same. Would rather lose this than lose number 1 next year. ha! Glenn 05-21-2014, 02:20 PM LLTP: No lottery pick = more cap room! http://www.nba.com/pistons/chatmailbox/pistons-mailbag-may-21-2014 See, there's always a silver lining with Keith! Tahoe 05-21-2014, 03:12 PM I seriously have no fuckin clue why this team is so bad. Thought Dre, Monroe, Jennings, Smiff would get us in the playoffs. Good luck, Stan! Higherwarrior 05-21-2014, 04:19 PM I'm not salty about this because the Pistons were going to suck no matter who they picked and they were going to lose a pick no matter what in the next draft. Get ready for the fire sale. well IMO that logic doesn't make sense because this year's draft looks MUCH better than next year's prospects. plus, I feel pretty confident that with van gundy at the helm, we'll improve enogh to make the playoffs next year. so we'll be good enough to make the playoffs and therefore not bad enough to blow up the team or get a good draft pick. that is why I say that we're likely to be stuck in mediocrity for a LONG time. Uncle Mxy 05-22-2014, 10:46 AM I doubt it'll be as bad as the 2013 draft... that one has been full of Kids who Can't Play. Glenn 05-23-2014, 09:55 AM http://www.freep.com/article/20140523/SPORTS03/305230084/detroit-pistons-nba-draft Timone 05-23-2014, 01:23 PM Dan Feldman writes for the Detroit Pistons blog PistonPowered. Uncle Mxy 05-23-2014, 04:56 PM I bet $12 million bucks buys the #8 pick. Glenn 06-22-2014, 01:05 PM THIS THURSDAY Glenn 06-22-2014, 01:05 PM WISH :we: HAD A PICK Timone 06-22-2014, 04:39 PM WISH :we: HAD A PICK WE DO #38!!!! Uncle Mxy 06-22-2014, 05:03 PM At 38 we all rotate. Glenn 06-22-2014, 05:30 PM WE DO #38!!!! :kennythejet: Timone 06-25-2014, 08:24 PM Hope we do something. Going to be tough having to wait until 38. Higherwarrior 06-26-2014, 06:49 PM my sources are telling me it's unlikely that wiggins slips all the way to #38; I tried to cause his stock to slip by starting a rumour that he's a Neo Nazi Satan worshipper but it appears that hasn't worked and he will NOT be available at #38. *sigh* Mr. Oobir 06-26-2014, 08:28 PM Guys, I don't think I'm going to watch the draft this year. Total fair weather fan right here :( Wait the draft has already been on for an hour? Timone 06-26-2014, 08:33 PM This sucks. Fuck the Cavs. Timone 06-26-2014, 08:35 PM Where's WINDHORST? Timone 06-26-2014, 08:49 PM Of all the players to look up to he chose Wally Szczerbiak. Timone 06-26-2014, 08:49 PM McDermott going to the Bulls. Timone 06-26-2014, 09:07 PM Don't think I can watch much more of this. Timone 06-26-2014, 09:15 PM Ok, that is awesome. Timone 06-26-2014, 09:51 PM CHOKElahoma City on the clock. Timone 06-26-2014, 09:52 PM Maybe the MICHIGAN MAN can teach DurCAN'T how to win. MikeMyers 06-26-2014, 10:51 PM GUYS THE ONLY PICK THAT WILL MAKE AN IMPACT ON THE LEAGUE IS #38 Timone 06-26-2014, 10:56 PM I bet* we go with GRIII. *Kidding. I'm not Michael Jordan. MikeMyers 06-26-2014, 10:58 PM Whoever we pick will play along Drummond and KingJames Timone 06-26-2014, 10:59 PM Is Ennis The Menace still around Timone 06-26-2014, 11:00 PM Whoever we pick will play along Drummond, Carmelo and KingJames Timone 06-26-2014, 11:01 PM Clemson has a basketball program? Timone 06-26-2014, 11:01 PM Is Ennis The Menace still around Guess not. Suns. MikeMyers 06-26-2014, 11:02 PM Wow the 76ers just picked up piles of garbage today Timone 06-26-2014, 11:02 PM CLE will somehow end up drafting a prime Hakeem Olajuwon with this pick. MikeMyers 06-26-2014, 11:03 PM Loved the old nba draft coverage on TNT. ESPN just has clowns. Timone 06-26-2014, 11:03 PM CLE will somehow end up drafting a prime Hakeem Olajuwon with this pick. And he'll bust. Timone 06-26-2014, 11:05 PM I've gotta take a shit, Mike. Let me know if I miss anything. MikeMyers 06-26-2014, 11:11 PM You are not missing anything. Just fake Knicks hype. Higherwarrior 06-26-2014, 11:11 PM damn the knicks for taking cleanthony early. totally wanted that kid. I would actually take G-rob. developing shooter and great athlete. he'll be a much better pro on the right team. still dreaming that we can trade for stauskas somehow but I guess that ship has sailed. that kid is awesome and would fit in so well in Detroit. Timone 06-26-2014, 11:14 PM You are not missing anything. Just fake Knicks hype. Is there any other kind of Knicks hype? Timone 06-26-2014, 11:14 PM Thinking G-Rob. But it'll probably be some guy from Kazakhstan or something. Higherwarrior 06-26-2014, 11:15 PM what happened to all the supposed trades tonight? no big deals and only a couple of trades involving picks. I'm hoping more are announced soon... Timone 06-26-2014, 11:15 PM what happened to all the supposed trades tonight? no big deals and only a couple of trades involving picks. I'm hoping more are announced soon... Yeah, this draft has been very uninteresting. Higherwarrior 06-26-2014, 11:16 PM we're up! on the clock. who will it be? I think g-rob can help and develop even more. other good players left though. Timone 06-26-2014, 11:16 PM Simmons loves the pick, you guys. WE WIN. MikeMyers 06-26-2014, 11:16 PM WHO THE FUCK IS SPENDER DINWIDDIE Higherwarrior 06-26-2014, 11:17 PM nice pick!!! Dinwiddie is a player but just needs to be healthy!! MikeMyers 06-26-2014, 11:17 PM YEAH LETS DRAFT SOMEONE WITH A TORN ACL. PEYTON SIVA WOULD DESTROY HIM Timone 06-26-2014, 11:17 PM 1st round talent? BUT IS THAT TOP 8 TALENT??? MikeMyers 06-26-2014, 11:18 PM If you're first rd talent then you get picked in the first round. He's second round talent. Higherwarrior 06-26-2014, 11:18 PM if he hadn't been injured you would've asked that question 20 picks ago. he's a player. plus, did you see his moustache? that alone tells me this kid is a baller. Higherwarrior 06-26-2014, 11:19 PM If you're first rd talent then you get picked in the first round. He's second round talent. not in a really deep draft and when you're injured. happens all the time- if someone else is healthy and is a comparable talent, they'll take the healthy guy obviously. if he wasn't injured, he goes in the first for sure. Timone 06-26-2014, 11:20 PM The Wolves just need to be kicked out of the fucking league. It doesn't matter what they do. Higherwarrior 06-26-2014, 11:21 PM I would've taken g-rob. but this makes sense too. MikeMyers 06-26-2014, 11:25 PM It doesn't matter. He will probably never play but he will be featured in "State of the Pistons" Timone 06-26-2014, 11:29 PM Oh look, the Wolves are up again. Timone 06-26-2014, 11:30 PM WHERE THE FUCK IS WINDHORST?!?!? Glenn 06-26-2014, 11:36 PM It doesn't matter. He will probably never play but he will be featured in "State of the Pistons" Win Timone 06-26-2014, 11:37 PM Bill Simmons: "I like that guy, he's a warrior." Actually, it was the SIXERS who drafted him. Idiot. Timone 06-26-2014, 11:41 PM Let's Not Go See "Let's Be Cops." Ha! Vinny 06-26-2014, 11:53 PM If you're first rd talent then you get picked in the first round. He's second round talent. Yup. Timone 06-27-2014, 12:05 AM What a boring draft. Timone 06-27-2014, 12:07 AM Watch Cory Jefferson go on to become like a 15x All Star. Timone 06-27-2014, 12:10 AM These pricks who think they're being funny by saying "Marcus Smart" in a Boston accent can go to Hell. Higherwarrior 06-27-2014, 06:00 AM "This is a great pick for the Pistons. Dinwiddie would've been a first-round pick if he hadn't blown out his ACL. He's a big guard who can play both the 1 and the 2. He's not a great athlete, but he's very crafty and has a high basketball IQ. The Pistons could use a player like this in their backcourt. He's the anti-Brandon Jennings." the 'anti-Brandon jennings'? already love this kid. Higherwarrior 06-27-2014, 06:03 AM If you're first rd talent then you get picked in the first round. He's second round talent. kind of a ridiculous statement considering the list of allstars and undervalued players who have slid into the 2nd round. is this another one of them? I'm not saying that but just pointing out how silly your statement is. there are plenty of examples which would prove your statement wrong. Vinny 06-27-2014, 09:02 PM I get what you're saying but you can't use exceptions to prove rules. MM's point is pretty incontrovertible....if he were a first round talent by very definition he would have been taken in the first round. Higherwarrior 06-28-2014, 03:41 PM it's not a rule. if it were a rule, every single guy with 1st round talent would be taken in the first round. not to mention, every guy taken in the 1st round would actually be a 1st round talent! would you agree lots of guys taken in the 1st round eventually prove to have been huge mistakes in evaluation? of course they were. and I was not trying to prove a rule I was simply pointing out that there are exceptions to that statement....and that Dinwiddie is clearly one of them. every source I've heard and read have said he's a 1st round talent who went in round 2 because of his injury and the depth of this draft. to say otherwise is to ignore the reality of his situation. will he end up being a good player? time will tell. but all evaluations at this point are that he is a 1st round talent. I've seen some sources even suggest he was a fringe lottery player. Higherwarrior 06-28-2014, 03:43 PM I get what you're saying but you can't use exceptions to prove rules. MM's point is pretty incontrovertible....if he were a first round talent by very definition he would have been taken in the first round. no. by every definition if he were a 1st round draft pick, he would've been taken in the 1st round. you can disagree if you like, but saying he is a 1st round talent does not mean that he would have necessarily been taken in the 1st round. that's not necessarily the case. Vinny 06-28-2014, 04:14 PM Guys with top-top talent get taken in the first regardless of the black marks, be them injuries, character questions, etc. He didn't have the talent for that injury to be ignored. This isn't that complicated. That's not to say that he can't play like a first-rounder but as is, he did not have first round talent, he had second round talent. Uncle Mxy 06-28-2014, 09:17 PM Would Dinwiddie have cracked the 1st round last year, just with his sophmore season? I'm looking forward to Blaha saying Spencer Dinwiddie's name. Higherwarrior 06-29-2014, 08:06 AM Guys with top-top talent get taken in the first regardless of the black marks, be them injuries, character questions, etc. He didn't have the talent for that injury to be ignored. This isn't that complicated. That's not to say that he can't play like a first-rounder but as is, he did not have first round talent, he had second round talent. you're right. he did not have TOP talent but he does have first round talent. |
