View Full Version : Lions next head coach? BubblesTheLion 12-22-2013, 05:33 PM After what will be today's chocolate ass juice of a game, it is time to start speculating the next future last stop coach for this franchise. Timone 12-22-2013, 06:10 PM I'm going to be completely serious for once. Mark Dantonio. Timone 12-29-2013, 10:22 AM @davebirkett: Adam Schefter just said he thinks Jim Schwartz will return as Lions coach for 2014. DrRay11 12-29-2013, 10:24 AM If that's true, I'll be praying to the old gods that Linehan is fired. Glenn 12-29-2013, 10:53 AM Glad the 'C word' hasn't been mentioned here yet. DrRay11 12-29-2013, 10:55 AM cunt? Glenn 12-29-2013, 10:57 AM I thought the capital C would help. Timone 12-29-2013, 11:15 AM It's better that Cheeks coaches the Lions instead of the Pistons. DrRay11 12-29-2013, 11:25 AM Cowher will not coach the Lions next year. Timone 12-29-2013, 05:45 PM Now Glazer's reporting that Schwartz is being shitcanned. Vinny 12-29-2013, 06:34 PM Now Glazer's reporting that Schwartz is being shitcanned. Can't wait to see what idiot we get next. DE 12-29-2013, 06:43 PM I have no clue who they'll hire but here's a list of a lot of what I'd like: A details coach. All the best coaches cover every minute detail. A coach with a history of good discipline. I don't care if he's been an HC, OC or DC, his players were disciplined and made few stupid mistakes. A coach with good communication skills. It helps. Notice how all the successful coaches and teams today have it. Either a history of grooming a QB or the ability to choose a good OC who can. Calm cofidence. You don't see Bellichick, Peyton, Fox or even Harbaugh when he gets histrionic act like Shorts did. Most Super Bowl winning coaches are like that. Good strategist who understands adjustments. I have no idea if there's a coach with all that. The only retread I can think of right now that wouldn't make me puke is Gruden, though I'm not sure I'd celebrate that either. Vinny 12-29-2013, 06:45 PM Need a head coach, not a coordinator. DE 12-29-2013, 06:46 PM I'm fine with giving a shot to a coordinator. Almost all the best coaches came from being an OC or DC first. It's about criteria more than type of previous experience IMO. Oh. I'd want a guy who's shown he can coach well in big game. Vinny 12-29-2013, 07:00 PM You are wrong and have learned nothing. DE 12-29-2013, 07:30 PM I'm honestly lost here. How many of the best coaches have at least been a coordinator at some level? For the most part Super Bowl winning coaches come from pro ranks more than college ones. The only three I can think of that went college to pro and won a Super Bowl in the last 30 years would be Jimmy Johnson, Tom Coughlin and Bill Walsh (who went from college HC to pro HC but had been a pro assistant for years). I don't count Harbaugh since he's yet to win a Super Bowl but I'm all right if you want to put him on this list. Pete Carroll could be another one but he hasn't won a SB and he spent a ton of years in the NFL, including as HC, before he went to USC. I do not count Swtizer since he won with Jimmy Johnson's team. As for past NFL coaches (or ones that might get the ax) is there one that you would prefer? DrRay11 12-29-2013, 07:37 PM Yeah, there's not much available in the "head coach" department. Dungy already said he's done coaching, Gruden is a long shot, Cowher is out of the realm of feasibility... the only maybe would be Lovie Smith, Ken Whisenhunt, or Norv Turner, all of whom proved incapable of doing much more than what Schwartz has. Turner is probably better suited at OC, and may be available because it's rumored that Chud is out in Cleveland. Glenn 12-29-2013, 08:03 PM Brian Kelly? Glenn 12-29-2013, 08:05 PM Gonna troll that a bit and see what turns up. MikeMyers 12-29-2013, 10:18 PM I'd take Lovie Smith. At least he went to the Super Bowl and made the playoffs most years. Don't care for all these "hot shot" coordinators. I can't believe the Browns are looking at Josh Mcdaniels or our own GYM SHORTS. Thats why both our franchises are losers. Vinny 12-30-2013, 04:10 PM Shanahan or is he washed up? Honestly didn't pay a ton of attention to what was going on in Wash, figured it could just be the Snyder's fault. I'm not opposed to a coordinator but whoever we hire needs to be IN CHARGE. Not learning the ropes, not getting his feet wet....we can't go through that again. See also Morhinweg, Marty; Schwartz, Gym; Marinelli, Rod; et al... Timone 12-30-2013, 04:13 PM Been hearing Whisenhunt a lot. I'll make some calls and see if there's anything new. Timone 12-30-2013, 04:15 PM I'd like it, but only because Tahoe would prolly call him "Cheese Whiz" when he fucks up. Vinny 12-30-2013, 05:10 PM And you'd go with WhisenCUNT. Ha! Timone 12-30-2013, 06:50 PM Would be SO classic. mercury 12-31-2013, 12:38 AM Some possibilities (http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2013/12/10_potential_coaching_candidat.html) DrRay11 12-31-2013, 09:49 AM Maybe Todd Bowles HC with one of the Air Coryell guys as OC? Wouldn't mind Gunther as DC if we change the DB philosophy to play the ball, not the receivers' hands. MikeMyers 12-31-2013, 11:16 AM Lions should hire an all-chinese staff so they can sell more stuff in Asia. Timone 01-01-2014, 12:35 PM Lions and Caldwell talking. smh DrRay11 01-01-2014, 04:17 PM Lovie and Frazier as DC please. Maybe leave the Tampa 2 behind though. Timone 01-02-2014, 09:34 AM Won't be Lovie. Buccs. DrRay11 01-02-2014, 09:48 AM Oh well. FUcking cursed will never win etc Timone 01-07-2014, 08:23 PM Kubiak interviewed. mercury 01-09-2014, 02:50 AM Munchak? (http://www.detroitlions.com/news/lions-insider/article-1/Lions-interview-former-Tennessee-Titans-head-coach-Mike-Munchak/9b061808-8589-470c-89aa-202195adc232) DrRay11 01-09-2014, 11:14 AM Whisenhunt pls Tahoe 01-10-2014, 02:59 AM Mayhew and Lewand or whatever the fuck his name is are like 2 circus clowns. Timone 01-13-2014, 07:25 PM Probably going to be Caldwell, but my heart doesn't want to rule out Dantonio. Tahoe 01-13-2014, 07:45 PM Or Munchak (sp?). I think it should be Munchie...so it won't be. DrRay11 01-13-2014, 09:05 PM Rumors of Caldwell bringing Tressel. This is like a really bad nightmare. Glenn 01-13-2014, 09:10 PM Sounds good if you don't have a vested interest and enjoy drama/trainwrecks |
