View Full Version : Chicago
Glenn 08-11-2013, 02:57 PM Looks like we're taking the kids there for an overnight in mid Oct. Museums, shopping, the works, really.
Anything to be concerned about besides the marathon and getting murdered?
Museum of science and history worthwhile?
Glenn 08-11-2013, 02:58 PM Science and industry, I guess it is.
Is The Palmer House nice?
Timone 08-11-2013, 03:00 PM you guys going to go visit Vinny?
Vinny 08-11-2013, 04:22 PM Science and industry, I guess it is.
Is The Palmer House nice?
Science and Industry is actually really fun. The Palmer House has a super nice lobby but careful with the room you book because it is a very old hotel....i booked a 'Double Room' for my dad and nephews there last year for like $280...turns out a 'Double Room' means literally one double bed in a 6 foot by 9 foot closet. See if you can get on the Club level or at least make sure of the room-size....i think my experience is the exception not the rule. Check out the Hyatt otherwise, nice and reasonable if you book far enough ahead...($169 usually).
Go to hottix.org if you have any interest in seeing a show. You can get blue man group tickets for like half off sometimes. Still $34 a pop but better then full price....Glan you'd probably really like Million Dollar Quartet too.... http://www.milliondollarquartetlive.com/ ... They have discounted tickets on there sometimes too...
Tahoe 08-11-2013, 04:46 PM Me likes Chicago.
That is all.
Glenn 08-11-2013, 04:57 PM Thanks, Vinny.
Only there for 2 days 1 night so trying to make the most of our time. I'm voting for a newer hotel, so that's good ammo on the Palmer Hizzouse.
Uncle Mxy 08-12-2013, 09:11 AM If you're looking for cheap in downtown Chicago, check out the Red Roof Inn. It's a dive, but a cheap dive.
Note that hotels want to dick you on parking, so check out your hotel's proximity to Millenium Garage.
Of course, there's always the train to Chicago... especially from GR, that might be fun.
Glenn 08-12-2013, 09:23 AM Thanks. I looked into the train a few years ago, but I think there may be a better (faster) train option these days.
We're not looking for "cheap" on the hotel, more nice/clean/big/safe, but thanks.

Glenn 08-12-2013, 09:14 PM Ain't nothin wrong with any of those.
Uncle Mxy 08-13-2013, 09:01 AM For the touristy restaurants that would be kid friendly, I'd go with Gino's East or Ed DeBevic's.
Vinny 08-13-2013, 06:28 PM I must reject Gino's east on quality grounds. if you have to eat Chicago-Style pizza, gotta go Lou Malnati's. Infinitely better than any of the others.
DrRay11 08-13-2013, 08:59 PM No. Gino's East is fucking delicious. That being said, you can't go wrong with Lou Malnati's.
Vinny 08-13-2013, 09:28 PM Gross.
Glenn 08-13-2013, 09:31 PM I like Gino's East.
Then again only pizza I've ever disliked is Papa John's and Domino's.
Vinny 08-13-2013, 09:33 PM I'm not saying it's BAD. Just far inferior. Go Lou's, significant upgrade.
Glenn 08-13-2013, 09:33 PM However the "other" Papa John's (formerly?) in East Lansing rocked.
$3.99 large two topping on football Saturdays, and if you chose "extra thick" as one of your toppings, you basically doubled the girth of your pie.
MikeMyers 08-13-2013, 10:58 PM Honestly, you need 2 nights. The museum of science and industry is massive.
Glenn 10-27-2013, 11:33 PM Had a great time.
THANKS FOR ASKING
Timone 10-27-2013, 11:35 PM Glad you didn't get shot. I guess someone upstairs was looking out for you.
