I was just thinking, with KYrie, possibly Noels (which means more losing and possibly a better 2014 draft pick), dion waiters, Varejeo, and Tristian Thompson, the Miami Heat organization has to be thinking in the back of their minds that Bron could dip after next season.

Higherwarrior

i hope we reserved our luck to win the lottery NEXT year. that canadian kid is the franchise changer we need.

as for this year, there are a couple of guys i'm interested in but i would totally take tim hardaway jr. at #8. seriously the kid can shoot, is a better athlete and overall player than people credit him for. in 2-3 years he'll be a much better nba player than he was in college. but even still- he's the type of guy who can immediately help as a role player and with 2 bigs like g-mo and drummond, he could be a tremendous asset on the wing.

Tahoe
05-24-2013, 06:51 PM
I don't like Hardaway.

Cross
05-25-2013, 05:15 AM
Same. I did read he's impressed scouts and GMs at the combine and workouts but he would be a huge reach at #8.

Also why the fuck is Joe bringing in Peyton Siva for a workout? Does he not realize we need some spacing for our offense to work?

We're getting Zeller, though.

Getting Zeller at #8 would be a coup.

Glenn
06-21-2013, 12:14 PM
Even when Givony has him at #11?

yargs
06-21-2013, 01:57 PM
Even when Givony has him at #11?

Yes indeed. They zoned/game-planned/defensed the shit out of cody zeller this year which made teammates like oladipo look better than they really are (plus Indiana's coach is more recruiter than strategist which I believe also contributed to zeller not fulfilling expectations not to mention their point guard sucked). It's really challenging for a big man to dominate the college game anymore due to zones, younger players and ball dominant point guards that only know how to score.

Givony is usually right on with this stuff but I think he missed with Zeller probably because he's watching too much college basketball and not thinking about the NBA game. Zeller will thrive in the NBA due to the spacing, his ability to move as a big man (he is arguably the best athlete of all big men in this draft) and face the basket/knock down the jumpshot. Zeller is definitely top 5 talent and, in my opinion, the 2nd best pro prospect in the draft after mclemore. Don't be surprised if zeller has a resurgence of interest next week leading into the draft.

Shabazz is also a bit underrated and was partially a victim of a really bad UCLA offensive system/coaching staff.

I don't want any part of Trey Burke or Anthony Bennett and Noel scares me big time.

Higherwarrior
06-26-2013, 08:59 PM
this draft is simply horrific. I know we have a bunch of guards but to me trey burke is the best player in this class and would be too good to pass. I don't care what people say- he's tony parker with deeper range on his jumpshot. would you take that for this team?

I would take burke and figure the rest out later. I don't know what you do with Brandon but I do know you try to dump stuckey. we would have a historically undersized backcourt but maybe we make another trade. or acquire a 2 guard in FA.

I dunno, I just don't want to take a player who fits a more obvious need just because. burke isn't tall but he's got a good wingspan and I believe he is being underestimated. he's a really good player, has a really high bball IQ and a really good game. so he's not Russell westbrook athletic....but he has a better bball IQ. pairing him with our monster PF/C combo, and we instantly become a lot better.

i'll change my mind tomorrow but right now, there's not much else I like in this draft.

Trey Burke says relationship with Joe Dumars makes the Detroit Pistons an even more appealing option

Vinny
06-26-2013, 10:22 PM
I by no means think we have too many guards. I'd be more than happy with Burke if he's legit. I don't know that we have 1 championship-level or even 2nd round level starting guard on the team let alone 2.

Stuckey should absolutely not be a consideration in who we draft (not that anyone here disagrees with that....).

Higherwarrior
06-26-2013, 10:23 PM
burke and Bennett are the only 2 guys I think could be there at #8 that I would be really excited about getting.

Higherwarrior
06-27-2013, 04:11 PM
who knows what to believe during draft season....but i'm hearing mclemore could fall all the way to #8. if this is true- which is hard to believe- I would probably have a conniption- that would be an incredible steal for us. in the right environment, that kid could be somewhere between paul pierce and ray allen.

it's wishful thinking but you never know. this is a very unpredictable draft. we 'lucked out' with really good players falling to us the last 3 years and this time it's perhaps even more likely. whether it would be someone as good as b-mac, I don't know.....

To me this draft is a 2-player draft between mclemore and zeller. If either fall to the pistons we should all rejoice. These are the only 2 players projected top 8 that don't have questions regarding their skills AND physical ability to play their positions in the NBA. All others (noel, oladipo, porter, Bennett, burke, McCollum, len) come with question marks in terms of transitioning physically or skill-wise to the NBA game.

looks like the Canadians will rule the draft this year and next. 2014 wiggins will be the guy and he's as can't miss as they come. who would've ever thought Canadians could go #1 overall in back to back years?! O_O

06-27-2013, 08:09 PM
Burke might go to NO. Read something about them making him a "promise" or something.

Again, grain of salt.

Higherwarrior
06-27-2013, 08:11 PM
not a fan of MCW either. he has the tools and great size. even looks the part. but something just don't seem right about him. plus, do we really need a PG who can't shoot considering we lack shooters and are trying to space the floor for our 2 young big men? sounds like a bad idea.

Higherwarrior
06-27-2013, 08:11 PM
Burke might go to NO. Read something about them making him a "promise" or something.

Noel and Davis. Man.

Higherwarrior
06-27-2013, 08:13 PM
down to us and the kings! they were rumoured to not be impressed with mclemore in his workout. which means, that is who they are taking. it was a smokescreen to try and lower his stock and have him fall to them.

Timone
06-27-2013, 08:13 PM
I love not knowing what the fuck I'm talking about, HW. Makes this a lot more fun.

Higherwarrior
06-27-2013, 08:14 PM
I would be ecstatic with either burke or mclemore. this is ridiculous particularly if b-mac falls to us. that is the most improbable scenario in this draft. if burke were to be the consolation prize, it would be one hell of a prize!

Timone
06-27-2013, 08:14 PM
Kinda nervous, you guys.

Higherwarrior
06-27-2013, 08:15 PM
mclemore is a mix between ray allen and paul pierce. pierce is another KU product who fell on draft day and missed us by one spot. could this be history repeating?

Timone
06-27-2013, 08:15 PM
Burke might go to NO. Read something about them making him a "promise" or something.

Higherwarrior
06-27-2013, 08:18 PM
burke would be an amazing consolation prize. something tells me we'll pass for McCollum. but if it were me, i'd take burke and worry about where to play knight later.

Higherwarrior
06-27-2013, 08:26 PM
KCP. ok I actually like this kid but I have a hard time passing on burke. :(

Higherwarrior
06-27-2013, 08:29 PM
bittersweet. I think he's the best SG next to b-mac. he was on a bad team that didn't showcase his true talent last year and I think he has an even higher ceiling. I see burke as the better overall player but he's a definite PG and KCP obviously fills a need at 2 guard. I can be happy with this pick- excited even. but I just wanted burke so bad and with him being right there for the taking, it makes this tough for me.

Higherwarrior
06-27-2013, 08:29 PM
too bad this didn't work like the nfl where we could package our 2nd rounders and get value along with stuckey that could net us burke as well. but clearly it doesn't work that way in the nba.

niiiiiice! really good pick. he was being called a potential huge steal by many sites and experts. this kid fits well with what we have IMO. i'd love to see him worked into the rotation as a energy guy but he certainly has more potential as his offensive game can be a lot more than dunks and putbacks. very eager to see how he fits in!

Higherwarrior
06-27-2013, 11:23 PM
kudos joe. 2 very smart picks. this 2nd one really shows me you know something of what you're doing. not a 'safe' pick but a smart one. adds a ton of athleticism that we badly need. he could be a defensive specialist and energy player on offense while continuing to improve his ball handling.

I see him as a future SF.

Higherwarrior
06-27-2013, 11:26 PM

Higherwarrior
06-28-2013, 06:11 AM
wow. I didn't think i'd be saying this with the #56 pick. but this is a REALLY good pick IMO. siva provides more athleticism which we badly need. he's a lightning bolt on the court, an outstanding athlete (42 inch vertical I believe) and a really good defender. add to that the fact he's a solid distributor and he can definitely help us.

he is not 6-5 but he plays his butt off. also, he's a streaky shooter but he has nice form on his J so I would expect he will improve that and become a solid nba backup.

this draft definitely gets an A from me. all 3 picks should not only make the roster but compete to be contributors before too long. great work joe!

let calderon go, please!
