Since amnesty isn't an option right now, I actually really liked the move, good coaching. It's not possible that he's being showcased, nobody's that dumb.

More likely, Frank saw we were going to lose and knows we have another game tomorrow. Throw his ass out there and rest the valuable guys.

I'd rather we play Daye in that scenario GD

Nova = dead and buried IMO. Amnesty awaits him and that's all that matters. No one will trade for him IMO.

Daye? Dude might still have some trade value

Daye has even less trade value than Charlie. At least Charlie USED to be productive.

Couldn't watch the game, but just checked the box score. Was Jerebko injured?

In the minds of GM's is Daye finished? Out of the NBA after this season? Or is there some hope that he's still a young prospect with some potential?

IMO Nova is what he is - and no one will trade for him

Well, he is only 3 months older than Kim English, so there's that. But I think at best his trade value is a 2nd round draft pick. Or some other team's bad contract. Or a throw-in to make salaries work. That's at best.

You talk about amnestying Villanueva (which made no sense this season, but whatever), but the worse financial decision was exercising the 4th year option on Daye's contract. Had their not been the lockout, that may not have happened.

Wonder how bad Stuckey's ankle is hurt?

Hopefully it gives the team a real boost.

Time for English's shot?

I think Austin is finished in the nba.

Kstat

Villanueva, meanwhile, at least brings SOMETHING to this team. I don't want him around either, but he's a better player than Austin, and jerebko was playing worse than either of them.

Someone has to take jerebko's minutes. Charlie V sadly is the best candidate, at least until drummond starts and Kravitsov becomes available.

Feel sorry for Daye - dude has some nice tools but there's an issue inside his head that holds him back/down/whatever

Anytime I see a dude with that much talent fail it makes me thankful I've seen a lot of fucking players who didn't have the talent... but they came with the mental toughness and work ethic to get the maximum out of whatever gifts they had

Kstat
11-26-2012, 12:36 PM
I don't feel sorry for Daye at all. He doesn't care about his career enough to work hard. Why should I?

Pharaoh
11-26-2012, 08:32 PM
Is it that he doesn't care? I find that hard to believe

I just think he doesn't have the mentality to succeed in the NBA. It's not about talent - lots of dudes have plenty of talent. It's the mental aspect that stops them dead.

Kstat
11-27-2012, 01:43 AM
His dad failed in the nba largely because he didn't care. Took his money and got out quick. I see Austin Daye doing the same thing. He doesn't like to work. There just isn't a passion for basketball that you need to be a successful nba player.

Pharaoh
11-27-2012, 04:01 AM
so it's not talent, it's mental!

No drive to succeed, no fire inside of him to prove that he's "the best in the world at what he does"... dude is happy to play ball for money but he's not gonna work hard and he's not gonna go the extra mile...

Why the fuck can't they work that shit out before drafting someone?

Surely here is some head doc out there that could work shit out before we waste a pick and millions of dollars on some bum that just doesn't have it upstairs?

Kstat
11-27-2012, 05:38 AM
They knew. They took the risk anyway.

It was a shit draft, full of question marks. Sme guys panned out, others didn't. Austin was one of the biggest upside players in the draft at where we were drafting.

Pharaoh
11-27-2012, 07:41 AM
Biggest upside how? If he got a brain transplant? And if they knew his work ethic and drive were fucked why pick him?

This is what bugs me when it comes to our drafting - I don't care how other teams draft - fuck them!

What bigs me is that it seems we, as an organisation are no better than the middle of the road teams when it comes to getting players out of the Draft. Yeah, yeah, yeah, blah, blah, blah every team bats .500 with the Draft. WHY is that accepted as the "way things are" and left at that?

Just because everyone is just as bad as you are at something doesn't mean you throw your hands in the air and say "such is life" and move on! As an organisation we should want to be better than other teams at everything - including the Draft.

If we're just gonna accept that everyone is shit at drafting and it's ok for us to be shit too that's not good enough IMO

Kstat
11-27-2012, 08:58 AM
A lot of the same thing were said about drummonds work ethic. Hit and miss.

Pharaoh
11-27-2012, 07:25 PM
IMO if you bring a guy in with a poor work ethic you can change his habits. But he has to come into the right environment. Having Monroe and Knight lead the off-season workouts is a great start

I still think we need a veteran leader but it's hard to acquire that. It's unusual for a team to simply acquire a leader because most people wouldn't be comfortable entering a new system and being vocal about things. It takes time to get comfortable, time to settle in and regardless of how many years experience they may have they wouldn't want to rub people the wrong way and "step" on someone else's toes.

The only way I see us acquiring a veteran leader is if there is significant roster changes that result in an almost brand new team... which should happen this coming off-season.

Yes, we'll have plenty of players under contract when free agency begins (Monroe, Drummond, Prince, Stuckey, Knight, Singler, Jerebko, Middleton, Slava, English) but if we remove Prince and Stuckey from that group we're extremely young, with no player having more experience than Monroe!

Lots of options to consider this off-season - but will we enter next season without Prince and/or Stuckey?
