We're at 0-5 and maybe looking at 0-10 or maybe worse. (Seriously, where does the first win come from)

How long do you guys expect Gores to stomach this? He's going to be looking at 2,000 people at The Palace.

I don't expect that Joe will be fired, but I do expect him to 'resign/retire' and state that he's satisfied that he's 'leaving the franchise in a great position moving forward'.

We're already talking about the lottery, but honestly, the real clock that Joe is on is almost out of time.

Be impactful.

This is the silliest in a long line of silly thread ideas.

Joe is going nowhere, even in a worst case scenario, until after the season.

Pharaoh

Assuming Joe was to step aside I'd prefer it happen ASAP

A new GM can come in well in advance of the Draft and free agency... possibly make a big trade prior to the deadline with our expirings...

The other question that needs to be asked: How many losses until Frank gets the phone call?

4-20... 0-10? Throw in that 0-16 streak at New Jersey and it looks even worse... if that's possible!

I'm Tahoe and I approve the OP's message!

What would be the downside of letting Joe go? Start losing? Won't sign good FAs when we have cap room?

Time for some new blood peeps.

Kstat

The downside is the team isn't owned by an 8 year old. If it was, then yeah firing everyone after 5 games might be a realistic possibility.

I can't wait for the obligatory Pistons March/April winning streak ruining the top 3-5 draft position.
Gores had the chance to fire Dumars, he didnt, he did give him another 3 years when he took over, next summer is gonna be huge, Dumars very last chance.

I hope this doesn't turn to a hate-a-thon on Joe. Not here at WTFD, but Pistons fans everywhere. He was too good of a player and 'an even better person' to go out like an idiot.

I hope he resigns for health reasons or some shit like that. Not that he has health issues but they make some shit up like that or something.

Pharaoh

I'd like to see Joe make a big trade that rights the ship and sees us move up the standings...

we've got the expiring contracts to make a move, but lack the picks to include...

maybe at the deadline Singler, Jerebko and English have enough value to get something done?

Tahoe
11-09-2012, 05:31 PM
This shitty season, so far anyway, has zero to do with Frank. But I do hope Frank starts Drummond at some point. Mainly cuz I don't have consistent viewing time to watch all of every game, or the interest. But if Dre were starting, I could tune in at the begining and watch that mofo or something.

Pharaoh
11-10-2012, 07:34 AM
I don't think you can give Frank a free pass.

At the end of the day he's supposed to get these guys prepared to play, gve them the game plan and ensure they execute it... so far no good.

Is the roster an All-Star team? No... but Drummond should start, English should be playing more minutes and we could argue that Singler either should start or get more minutes

Frank needs to pull his head outta his arse and start Drummond with Monroe

Glenn
11-10-2012, 09:28 AM
I won't blame Frank for that without knowing that he's not just following orders from the top about how they want Drummond used.

As bad as this team is currently playing, they've been in a small handful of games at the end this season (minus being blasted by LA). I think if we had started out with a more favorable schedule, the team would be 2-4 games south of .500 ball. I think everyone, particularly Gores, probably realizes that the deck was stacked and this kind of start was very possible. That said, I imagine there is enormous pressure to win tonight in Houston, or at worst, at Philly next week. The future schedule has Orlando (twice), Toronto (a win, if they play anywhere near as well as they did OKC last night), NYK (long shot win, but possible), Memphis, and Phoenix. If the fellas can do something with the big homestand coming up -- heck, even go .500 or close -- the season isn't a train wreck quite yet. The team could reasonably be 5-8 (I think my math is correct, but if not, you get the basic idea) around Black Friday if they drop the obvious games they should lose and fight out the winnable ones. But yes, it looks really bad at the moment.

By the way, glad to see we're still kicking the can around this place. I was MIA most of last season -- too busy for basketball most nights -- but re-upped my League Pass for this season because I'm excited about the youth in the organization.

I don't think the season is write off - just don't see the point in pretending we're something we're not.

Best case scenario is that we somehow scrap into the playoffs as a low seed and earn the right to get waxed.

But if we play Drummond as much as he can handle, if we play Singler big minutes, if English is given every opportunity to play then we might lose a lot... end up in the Lottery

That pick, combined with our cap space could really help us out.

I'm all for "losing the right way"... because I believe it helps our future more

Don't forget that this draft is AWFUL!!! Might be the worst since 2000. Virtually everyone left last year, plus it's a weak incoming freshman class. Drummond will probably be better than any player who comes out this year. And if you get a top 5 pick, you're paying a player big money who isn't worth his draft slot.

So this is one year where tanking is a bad idea. The Pistons making the playoffs this season (won't happen, but still) would be awesome, because we'd give our pick to Charlotte in a bad draft.

Koolaid

joe aint getting fired. he has until next year to make the playoffs. that's what they were saying when gores bought the team and i see no reason not to believe i

My spidey sense tells me that the plan is to tank this season and get a good draft pick this year. Look at the free agents this year as well. Clear Charlie V off the books, and you got enough room to get two of them on max deals. Hell, if Dumars trades away some more of the young dudes right now to get an expiring guy to audition, like Josh Smith, he might be able to get three.

So basically, dudes job is secure for now.

Agree the draft sucks (Zeller #1?)... however trading a high pick could net a solid young vet... we'd have to look at the restrictions of dealing consecutive picks (like pick for another team)

I don't think this draft sucks any more than the 2011 draft.
I'd be really surprised if Zeller stays at the top. I think Nerlens Noel and Shabazz Muhammad will be ranked higher by the time people are actually ready to draft.

Pharaoh
11-12-2012, 07:56 AM
Technically we wouldn't be dealing consecutive picks though...because you can't do that :)

What we'd do is use the pick then trade it on Draft Day... or deal the draftee in a sign and trade where we use some of our cap space to absorb the larger contract.

And if memory serves most people claim the Draft will suck most of the time... and most of the time they change their tune after March

The firing of a GM mid-season is for the most part the biggest ass covering any front office can make. It shows such an utter lack of a real plan it's not even funny. Ironic how you never see great organizations with a history of success pull this bullshit move. But of course they don't have to because they're great organizations with a history of success in the first place. But you know what I mean dammit!

The only exception to this would be the Millen firing because, dear God, whenever he left would have been too late already. Plus you have to give points for when Mayhew then fleeced the Cowboys, one of his best moves even now.

Tahoe

I just read this today and thought it was interesting. Personally I don't think the article itself offers any great insight other than Joe must go and Gores won't ever be a good owner. But it fits with the dead horse I beat so I'm going to post it. “I’ve never met Tom Gores, I’ve never talked to Tom Gores. I think somebody, maybe it’s Michigan fans are putting that out.”

How is nothing posted yet?

I bet the good posters would have posted before Cool Guy Glan did something about them.

Here here! It feels like Christmas today!

Bye, Joe.

Good for you for collecting a few hundred extra paychecks that you shouldn't have.

Still my fave Bad Boy.

So basically Gores agreed to keep paying him while he looks for a new job (Cavs).

Joe gets a fancy title from the end of the season until his contract expires...regardless of who Gores brings in.

Well played Mr Gores

He now has the kind of front office job that a HOF player in good standing would have with the organization they're most identified with.

DETROIT—Following several years of lackluster performance and unmet expectations under his own roof, Detroit Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars announced this week that he will be stepping down in order to spend more time rebuilding his family from the ground up. “While I have a lot of good memories with these people, I think the time has come for me to leave basketball so that I can focus on taking my family to the next level,” Dumars told reporters at a press conference, noting that the time had come to “shake up” his household, beginning with retooling his children’s roles and making an upgrade in the wife position. “Obviously, there are a lot of very talented units out there who are increasingly shedding their older members in favor of younger talent, which means that we need to get some new blood in here if we want to stay competitive. But once that happens, there’s no telling what these guys can do.” Though Dumars said that he holds fond memories of his time in the Motor City, the 50-year-old was not ruling out giving his newly revamped kin a fresh start in Seattle, a city he claimed was about due for a winning family.

Just saw Calderon hit a nice 3 and was thinking that JoeD brought in talent, most of the time, but didn't know shit about putting pieces together. Or is that what everyone already sez about him? That tall guy in Toronto that was drafted out of HS, iirc. Aaron Aflaflo, etc. There was the occasional Darko. Only makes you wonder what could've happened there.

But fuck JoeD's GM run. Glad its done. But he's still a Bad Boy. Glad he's done with his GM responsibilities so I can get back to liking him again.

Silly to say Dumars' reputation was built on Woj columns.

BTW, fine with Woj paying for access to break news. He should keep it up. Just not write op/eds.
