One part I don't get is why Ansar al-Sharia first claimed responsibility, then subsequently denied it.
But there's a lot I don't understand about what went down and the reaction over time.

Splinter groups claiming responsibility and denying it later, as you know, is not that uncommon. Normally a lot of groups claims responsibility for an attack/bombing, etc.
