The Detroit Red Wings have been fined an undisclosed amount for comments made by senior vice president Jim Devellano regarding the lockout.

In an interview earlier this week with Island Sports News, Devellano said that players should take 43 percent of the revenue, down from the 57 percent they currently receive.

"The owners can basically be viewed as the ranch, and the players, and me included, are the cattle," Devellano said in the interview. "The owners own the ranch and allow the players to eat there. That's the way it's always been and that the way it will be forever. And the owners simply aren't going to let a union push them around. It's not going to happen."

Owners and team officials previously have been warned that they would face fines if they talk about the lockout, which went into effect last week. Preseason games already have been canceled through Sept. 30.

You have a business that's starting to really consolidate itself in terms of revenue and growth. There is a need to further change the revenue sharing (which did need to be changed). You know you're going to get concessions from labor on some if not a good part of what you want. So what's the best strategy here? Ask them to cut 24% of their salary and give up their wives for one free booty call a week. Awesome.

We don't need the NHL, that's been shown with the last stupid lockout. And the league has improved so much. This is pissing in the wind, shooting yourself in the foot and just pathetic.

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Ian White had some harsh words for NHL commissioner Gary Bettman.

"I gotta be honest: I personally think he's an idiot," White told USA Today on Friday. "Since he's come in, I think he's done nothing but damage the game."
